“Loveley Views!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2012

We stayed at this lodge only for 1 night during our safari, beautiful views from the infinity pool and lovely grounds. Rooms very clean, but felt a bit small compared to other Serena Lodges we stayed at. Only problem was that our friends room although very clean with fresh bedding etc seemed to have quite a few bugs which came out when they retired to bed. They stripped and re-made the bed but couldnt find where they were coming from, but each time the light went out, the little critters popped out again so they had to sleep with the light on. However, we didnt experience any problems and neither did anyone else in our group. This was our least favorite of the Serena lodges, but it was still very comfortable and food was good. it was nice to have a few hours to relax by the beautiful pool before an afternoon game drive. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: Don't forget to switch off the light at night outside your terrace/balcony. Unfortuately we did...

I stayed there two non-consecutive nights at the beginning and end of the safari. It's a beautiful place, brilliant setting with great views on Lake Manyara [especially from the infinity pool]. 3 to 4 rooms are in each thatched roundavel hut, all having a patio or balcony respectively. Nice lounge and bar area as well as dining room. Excellent food and a rich breakfast breakfast buffet is offered. A huge armada of staff is friendly and seems to wait around the huts to pick up your luggage. The rooms are nice and have all amenities, only the shower is a bit tiny. The lodge offers entertainment, acrobatic and singing in the evening. WiFi is advertised, but did not work and the internet connection through LAN is very slow. Nice place to stay for a couple of days.

Room Tip: Try to get a room on the upper floor where you hav a balcony to sit and enjoy the surrounding; rooms...

I have been staying at Serena Hotels during an African Safari Tour. I have been impressed with the Serena hotels which have very nice properties and very nice, clean rooms with great views. The staff was very friendly, helpful and pleasant.

I had two minor complaints, the first was the lack of local foods to try. I like to try local cuisines when possible. The second was the wireless environment. As with other Serena properties, the entire property had wireless coverage, however it was not set up correctly, Internet was only available when you connected to the wireless router in the lounge. Internet was extremely slow.

I would stay there again.

After our stay at Sopa lodges at Ngoro Ngoro and Serengeti, we have switched our accomodation to Serena lodge at lake Manyara...

Pros:
- The best swimming pool among of all of listed places. This was the first time a went swimming, actually a few times. Water was warmer (but this was much lower altitude than previous lodges) and the pool looked really clean, safe and with amazing views downhill. I intentionally write downhill and not over the wilderness, because in comparison of Serengetti, there is nothing like that... But the pool ist infinite one, and that is what everybody likes, including me!
- Breakfast and dinner. Not only the breakfast, but dinner either was combined buffet style with ordering the main course from the menu. So while they are preparing a steak for you (was really delicious), you can have a starter selection from french cheeses!, soups, variety of meals, indian food, local food, dressings, juices... Just everythjing that comes into your mind. Pure satisfaction !!!
- Accomodation is similiar quality to the Sopa lodges. Rooms are a bit smaller, but comfortable and clean.

Cons:
- This is what has not happened to me for a long time. Last time maybe somewhhere at the end of 90´s. They charge you for the wifi connection like 5 USD for 30 minutes if I remember it correctly!!! This is something unnaceptable. lake Manyara is civilised place close to every type of infrastructure. I was imagining how it was possible for a Sopa lodge to have a free wifi at such remote place as Serengeti is, and at the civilisation, they are willing to rob you 5 USD for a short period of internet conncetion!!! If they excluded French cheeses from their buffet, which nobody would recognize, and in a return for this savings, they would arrange payment for the internet, everybody woudld be satisfied. This is pure management failure. What a shame !!!

First the pool, not big but what a view, you look over the wildlife park at Lake Manyara. Sit in the bar and sip a beer while watching the birds skim the water from the pool or take a dip and sit at the edge looking at an amazing view.

I wasn't feeling great so had my first nights meal in my room. They made me 2 plates of fresh fruit which really perked me up. Our final night was New Years Eve and they really put on an open air show, amazing.

Rooms were great although try getting a room upstairs as the view from the downstairs rooms isn't great but still more than adequate. Very clean and the staff were great.

We stayed here on our first night of our safari which we were doing during our 3 week honeymoon in Tanzania. The operator must have told them we were honeymooning so they had baked 1/2 a cake with a congrats, waiting for us in our room! We had a lovely view of the pool area and the Lake.

Most reviews say the place could use an update, I think it was absolutely fine, in fact we loved it and were really impressed! This place is not supposed to be a luxury lodge. The beds are comfortable, the view is spectacular and the staff are quite accomodating.

As for the food, it is buffet style with many choices. When on safari, you have the only choice of eating at your hotel, and it was absolutely fine. Since there is a wide variety of choices, it is easy to find something there that you will want to eat. Their lunch boxes are enormous!

We would definitely recommend this place to our friends and family!
