“Pleasant setting spoilt by casual attitude to guests”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2011

This is a conveniently situated camp for Lake Manyara and should have been a better experience than it was. We arrived from Arusha and although it was clear that we were not the fittest and youngest of guests were taken to the most distant of the lodges. There we were given a twin bedded room when we had specified double room on our booking. When dinnertime came there was no torch bearing escort to take us to dinner. We had to try and attract attention to get help and the little bridge was a definite safety hazard in the dark. The environment was very attractive as other contributors have said and it should have been a better experience but was let down by a casual approach to the needs of guests when the lodge was barely half full.

We stayed here for one night while on safari in the Lake Manyara region (well worth it). We actually enjoyed that this tent camp was a little smaller, more intimate. The lodge staff was very friendly and met us with washcloths to clean our dirty faces after a day of safari. Food was good, not great..but the tents are spaced a nice distance from one another. You go through a neighborhood to get there first, and then come upon this little surprise. As with most safari lodges, hot water is always a gamble.

We stayed at Migunga for two nights during our safari trip to Ngoro Ngoro and Lake Manyara after climing Kilimanjaro - on an organised trip.
The place is really great - you feel like you are in the middle of the bush - but the local village is just a stone throw away. The little monkeys are running around, but they are not annoying in any way. I slept like a baby at night - although I did need ear plugs because of all the sounds from birds and animals. The bathroom was the minus about this place. It was very ok - but the floor was not clean! I wore my Hawaianas all the time while showering and walking around in there. This could easilly have been solved. The food at the restaurant was great, and also their service. We really had two fantastic dinners here. We also had a lunch packet on our day in Ngoro Ngoro, and this was the best packed lunch on our entire trip. Being a tented camp - this is really good value. Would recommend - although it is not a high end lodge. The price would have been something else then!

Stayed here for one night during our safari holiday arranged through Imagine Africa. We had spent the day game viewing at Lake Manyara National Park with our guide. We were given lots of different accommodation options by Imagine Africa when we were arranging our holiday and we were delighted we chose to stay at Migunga Forest Camp. We stayed in a tented hut in the middle of the forest. The beds were very comfortable and had mosquito nets. There was electric lights in the tent and a bathroom with toilet and shower with hot water. During the day the grounds of the camp were full of mischievous little monkeys and the most amazing birds. During the night you could hear the animals walking by right next to the tent. The food was very nice and staff lovely. Would like to have stayed here longer as the camp had an organised bird walk that would have been good to go on. Also you could rent bikes and walk down to the village. Will definately return to Migunga.

We enjoyed our stay in Migunga very much. The setting is lovely and there is plenty of wildlife around to keep you entertain (vervet monkeys, mongooses and plenty of birds). The tents are nicely spread around the camp and are comfortable with a massive shower (with good pressure and hot water). The food is excellent (3 course menu). Drinks are probably the most expensive we encountered during our safari ($3 a beer or $30 for a bottle of wine) but as we only stayed for one night, it did not matter too much. Staff was friendly too. We were told mosquitoes were fierced there but I can't say we had any problems with them. Overall: very nice!

The Migunga forest camp is a tented lodge just outside the Lake Manyara Nationalpark.
The tents are not luxary but really nice and and snugly.
Outside the dining area there was a nice fireplace.
Everything was really clean and inside the tent there were special candles to keep mosquitos away.
The food was good and we enjoyed our stay!

We stayed here for 3 nights as part of an Exodus trip. It's a pretty basic experience, but if you know that in advance, you'll be OK. While the location is pleasant, it is outside Lake Manyara park so although only about a 15 mins drive to the park entrance. We would have preferred to have paid more for being inside the park. Tents at Migunga are well spaced and the atmosphere is laid-back and relaxed. However, the tents are quite basic, beds are comfortable with mosquito nets but the bathroom was very basic, the shower a dribble at best, hot water intermittent, lighting poor and towels barely adequate. The central dining tent was equally basic, with food just about OK.... it did have the only good wines we had in Tanzania, though! The good bits are the fire pit, which you can sit around in the evenings to chat and relax, plus the kids were enchanted by all the monkeys running around. Otherwise, despite a very friendly and committed staff led by Peter, it really isn't much to write home about. We'd recommend it for what it is - a 2-star place - but only go if that's what you want. There must be many other tented camps with better facilities.
