The picture of the hotel shown in the website and advertisement looks really nice. An elegant timber structure perched on the hillside with excellent view. Even when me and my boyfriend reached the lodge, it looked promising indeed. According to the owner, the entire structure is made up of south african wood and also assembled there which later is shipped over. It is based on an existing layout and the owner has the intention to extend another five rooms similar to the current lodge next year. Hopefully it won't take place because the existing lodge was a very unpleasant experience for me and could not wait to get out of in the three nights I have stayed.
What is the problem? First of all, the room itself is extremely dark, not helped by its timber finish on all surfaces. It has two windows (of which one is for bathroom) but they have no particular view (in fact, looking into the back of the site which is very uncomfortable) because of the way the lodge structure sits on the hillside. The rooms are just wrongly oriented to the back of the site with only the reception really having a good view. It is an absolute mistake to sacrifice the quality of the rooms for that.
The bedroom area and the bathroom feels very grubby the moment you step into the place. We discovered a couple of emptied hornet's nest sticking onto the doors later. And to my huge surprise, our towels were never changed in the three days we have stayed! They are just left where they are. Gosh..
All the rooms are also too close to the public space which generates noise and filters in smoke from the bar. I can also hear my neighbours showering next door and coughing in the middle of the night. Absolute abysmal.
There is no privacy at all in this place. People can hear you from your room and it is too dark to really do anything in the room like reading or whatsoever.
The redeeming factor is probably the delicious dinner it serves but the prices are not mentioned at all until we ask for it. Air con is charged extra at 6 euro per night but it was not even working the first day we arrived and even when it finally got working, it was not possible to operate it properly. Even with the air con and the mosquito net over our bed with fan blowing too, we still get insect bites in the bed.
The entire experience at the lodge is not what I would want to re-live and I was extremely happy to leave the place on my last day of stay at Seychelles.
All in all, I was
