“Truly magical – you forget about time and the rest of the world!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2012

My boyfriend made me a birthday trip surprise, taking me on a four day safari in South Africa and four days on Bazaruto Island in Indigo Bay. It’s an absolute paradise. The villas are nicely decorated, spacious, right next to the beach. You have your own private deck chairs, hammock, and the lush gardens make it absolutely private.

But one should not come here if he/she expects modern luxury stay. It’s the privacy, the incredible nature and unspoiled island, combined with the fantastic hospitality of the locals that make Bazaruto such a gem! It’s a truly Robinson Crusoe island. It’s great for snorkeling, relaxation and fresh seafood!

Definitely take the picnic trip to Paradise island – absolutely worth! They will prepare a tent and cook for you delicious fresh prawns for lunch, while you are walking and exploring the ruins of the island. It’s incredible for snorkeling – the corals are so beautiful, there are so many fish species, it’s just incredible! We even found a baby turtle!!!

For the romantic once – we recommend picnic at Sailfish Bay. It’s a private beach on the other side of the island, where you will be taken and left for the entire day on your own, with a private tent, bottle of champagne, fresh food, the ocean, and dunes – there is nothing else in the world you will need! It's a once in a lifetime experience!

We will definitely come back soon!

Indigo Bay is quite a gem, a little bigger than we would normally choose - the accommodation in the Beach Chalets is first Class, the food is very good and varied with a nice mix of waiter served and buffet meals. They have activities to suit everyone no matter what age. The staff are the best, from the top down they are all so helpful and friendly in fact they made the holiday. The downside, if like my husband and I who are an older couple seeking peace and quiet, it is just tooooo child friendly, an example - at lunchtime one has to tolerate children running around the dining area, wet from the pool and sometimes very vocal, and sitting on the cushions. Is it not possible to introduce a children's dining room??

We (me and my husband) went to Bazruto for a week in August . Our flight from Maputo was delayed for two hours and we were afraid to miss the connection to Bazaruto . I called the RANI Resorts reservation office and they told me not to worry that the plane would wait for us . And it was true – when we arrived (two hours behond schedule) the plane to Bazaruto was there awaiting for us !!! After a 15 minute flight over an incredible landscape , blue blue sea and beautiful islands we arrived at the resort. They were waiting for us and we went almost immediately to the room .
The room/suite had a vast bedroom/ living area, a incredible closet and a huge bathroom . It also had a direct access to the beach by way of a pretty garden and hammock. It was a very pleasant space and the garden is a beautiful one full of birds .In the beach there are two chaise longs for each room under a huge umbrella . The sea is a beautiful blue and as it have no waves it is ideal to swim . The sunset is also incredible - do not miss it !
The food was good ,usually a buffet at lunch in the Clube Naval and at dinner almost always a buffet (only three nights we ate a la carte ) in the main restaurant or at Clube Naval . The breakfast is a buffet served in the main restaurant overlooking the gardens and the sea and with the birds singing for us .
The staff is nice and friendly and the service is good .The rooms are clean and the gardens well preserved ! As I have the bad luck of slipping and hurt a leg I had the special care of the nurse, a very nice and friendly person( a retired nurse from Maputo ) that for three days went to my room at 8 in the morning and 2 and 7 in the afternoon to massage my leg .
This is a really a five stars resort !!!

Arrived in resort as family with 2 older teenage boys after 12 minute smooth flight in 12 seater plane from mainland. Our accomodation was in large villa with 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, large lounge area and large patio with plunge pool overlooking ocean. All beautifully appointed. The resort seemed very quiet at all times but plenty to do for those that wanted it, snorkelling, kayaking, gym, tennis, golf, boat trips, fishing etc. two pools one with swim up bar. Food was excellent and served at different locations within resort each night and in different style I.e BBQ , buffet, menu with choices. Variety of food seems incredible considering remote location.

We did couple of trips- sand boarding down dunes- like sledging on sand. Great fun! Also visit to local villages to see how the locals live in very primitive way and visit to school. Kids very keen to see us and seem very happy to be photographed. Suggest taking some goodies for them to use at school if you choose to go there. The hotel are good employing villagers to train and work in resort.

Thanks Indigo Bay for great attentive service and wonderful end to Victoria Fals and Kruger safari holiday.

Indigo combines a remote island wilderness feel with its wood and thatch chalets and tropical surrounds with a resort buzz with probably the most activities and facilities any lodge has to offer in Mozambique from tennis courts, qolf, a gym, two pools and two restaurants to loads of watersports. There are always plenty of staff around to assist.

The rooms are spacious and luxurious with wooden decks, sunken bath tubs and indoor and outdoor showers and his and hers basins.

The beach is lovely and the spa is stunning set high on a cliff overlooking the ocean.

Perfect for couples who want an active yet remote beach holiday or families with older kids who want lots of activities.

We have just returned from a lovely week at Indigo Bay Resort in Mozambique. It is ideally suited to families. We stayed in an inter leading beach chalet which was beautifully decorated, very spacious and spotlessly clean. The service was of a very high standard - every member of staff was excellent. Alex took us deep sea fishing three times. He is very experienced and I would highly recommend this activity. A visit to Santa Carolina / Paradise Island is well worth it for snorkeling and exploring the old hotel. Go at low tide because the reef is quite deep. Two mile reef is quite a long boat ride way but also worth it. The weather was a bit chilly. I would recommend taking a jacket if you visit in winter months as the hotel is very open plan. Altogether a lovely visit. We'll definitely be back there!

We recently stayed for four nights at Indigo Bay, Bazaruto Island, Mozambique. The resort itself is beautiful and I would highly recommend staying in a beach chalet, as you are literally "on" the beach, with your own sun loungers, which is wonderful.

The management, in particular, Roger (restaurant manager) and Oberi (guest services manager) are particularly helpful and friendly. All the staff are very well trained and very pleasant.

The overall manager of the resort, Andy, only spoke to us for a few minutes on the first night - he wasn't really around much after that.

The seafood was amazing and overall, the food was very good. A very chilled place to be, with a stunningly beautifully designed spa, high on the hill for excellent views.

We loved our time there and although there were one or two service glitches, we would really recommend it as a place to chill out and enjoy the gorgeous Mozambique Archipelago.
