Climbed Toubkal using the three day approach which offered time to enjoy the ambiance. Started from Marrakech, picked up on time from my hotel and picked up others from the central square and off to Imlil. Had a cuppa tea and off to the refuge. Stayed at the newer one which was much nicer than I expected in general but little hot water, really just warm, and since it was so cold, not fun to shower. However the community rooms had fireplace heat and were pleasant enough, Food was better than I would have thought.
Quite cold and windy and during this time of year, dark for a while when we started. Had Mohammed as a guide and he was useful, in particular as there are multiple paths leading to different peaks. The route is unmaintained and unstable requiring some confidence and fitness. Patches of ice in particular on the descent caused some delay. Out of group of ten all summited, but some had altitude issues and everyone fell multiple times. Have to emphasize that proper summit gloves and hiking poles are essential as the scree and rocks do not offer reliable footing.
A little longer up and back because of ice.
Jamal organized the trip and was accurate and reliable and we had a post climb lunch at his riad in Ilil, Would highly recommend him.
