“Best view in Northern Africa!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2013

2 day trek with a guide, but our sea-level fitness was not enough (struggled to make it to the summit). Great guide from the guide centre in Imlil and the refuge was very nice too.

“breathtaking views during the climb, never mind the top”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2013

you may look up and think you can't make it. but just think like a mule and plod on. you'll be fine. if you get altitude, just stop and have an orange or Kendal Mint Cake. snow is also good to eat to avoid carrying to much water. (not the yellow snow...)

“Worth the Trek”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 24, 2013 via mobile

A tough wee trek. It is 4167 m and feels every bit of that. Set off at 5.30am and summited at 8.30 which apparently is norm. Fantastic views of the High Atlas Mountains and beyond. Cold on top so wrap up in lots of layers which can be easily put on and removed when necessary. Descent took 2 hrs and in ways tougher than assent due to large tracts of scree. The Toubkal refuge where I stayed is good as mountain lodges go and have to comment favourably on their food. One complaint is too many people cramped into the dorms.

“A Challenging but Beautiful Trek”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2013

Walk up from Imlil and stay at the Les Mouflons refuge, significantly better than the Neltner refuge. Set off early and be prepared for step ascent from the start with a fairly relentless climb made even more challenging by the normal effects of altitude. No "path restoration" in this part of the world! The views from the col below the summit screes are breath taking and the panoramic views of the whole of the High Atlas and much on north Africa from the summit make all the effort entirely worthwhile. Stay another night on descent at the refuge before enjoying the walk back to Imlil. You need to be reasonably fit but it is a challenge the majority could accomplish and enjoy. One for the bucket list.

“The highest mountain in North Africa”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2013

A nice pleasant and fairly easy to follow route of about 5/6 hrs from Imlil village via Sidi Charamouche, (which is about half way and a good place to have lunch) to the refuge at the base of Jebel Toubkal, stay at the old French refuge for the more colourful experience ( also cheaper ! ) The Nelter refuge is at 3209 metres and the top of Toubkal is 4167 metres. The hike up will probably take between 2.5 and 4.5 hrs, depending on fitness. Should be no problem for experienced hill walkers. The top can be pretty cold, I went in early September and it was minus 3 degrees C on top, I had to wear socks on my hands as I had no gloves ! If you have the time spend two nights at the refuge, or you will have to do Toubkal then walk back to Imlil in one day. The route up Toubkal is fairly clear, It sets of from behind the French Refuge, If in doubt just follow another group up. I did it on my own with no real problems but I do a lot of hill walking.
