“Good value, holiday-making trek in the high Atlas”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2014 NEW

I would unequivocally recommend Trekking Morocco to anyone wishing to see more of what Morocco has to offer.
My wife and I did a one day tour with Ahmed and his team up to Imlil, and it was fantastic. We did a lot of research into the tour operators working in the high Atlas region on price and reputation, and finally decided on Trekking Morocco. Their price is most competitive and we found it good value for money. Others quoting €180 for two people and not budging on price!

We were picked up at 0930 by Ahmed, founder of the company, in his ac jeep and taken first to where a women cooperative make Argan Oil. Very interesting, friendly ladies, no obligation to buy anything but we did. As our journey took us into Berber territory and we wound into the Atlas Mountains we asked to stop a couple of times for pictures and Ahmed welcomed this. Nothing seemed too much trouble. Customer happiness was his number one priority.
In Imlil we met our tour guide Rashid. What a legend. Great English speaking and very knowledgable. At this point we were asked how we would like to spend the day - how long trekking, with or without a mule? We decided for 2/3 hours trek with a mule to take the pressure off when we were feeling the burn! Lalu the mule and Ibrahim did a fine job too.
The scenery is epic. The Berber people the nicest we have met in Morocco. Everywhere clean. Weather sunny but not too hot. 38c in Marrakech, probably 25-28c in the mountains but with a breeze. A must do trip for a Morocco holiday.
Arrived back into Imlil for a tasty locally cooked lunch followed by a bit of a snooze in the late afternoon sun. Again we were then given options for the rest of the day. We decided to visit a non touristy town on the way back to Marrakech. Beautiful, friendly, non pushy people and an opportunity to buy local produce cheaper than Marrakech.
We finally got back to our Riad at 1930 after we'd stopped to buy bus tickets enroute. Again, Ahmed obliging our request.

We had agreed a price on the phone, confirmed with email and one of the nicest things - is that for the whole day, money was not mentioned. We didn't pay for anything other than a souvenir. We stopped for drinks and snacks a number of times and always Ahmed paid. A true gentleman, and he even bought us a couple of keepsakes. He is a very genuine and friendly man, never stops smiling and who is not out to rip you off; but to better his company and reputation by giving you an exceptional experience in Morocco. I won't hesitate in using the company again in the future and wish him and his family all the best.

“Brilliant Guiding by Mohammad Idali”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2014

5 of us booked Mohammad Idali in Imlil to take us up to Toubcal Summit. Heavy rain and storms on the way up to Les Mouflons refuge dictated that we could not attempt the summit the following day as a river we needed to cross was flooded.
This left us with a whole day to kill so Mohammad agreed to take us up in the rain to a separate summit that was accessible. He was the only guide of several in the refuge that ventured out into the rain that day with clients

That evening we were convinced that no summit attempt would be possible the following day due to weather conditions and we accepted that we would have to return to Imlil for our journey home.

At 5 am next day he explored the river and found somewhere where we could cross. He returned to the refuge, banged on our bedroom door to wake us, and said that he had identified a river crossing and we could make a summit attempt.

We were very excited and I was aware that he could have easily convinced us that conditions would not allow a summit climb and had an easy day for himself yet still get paid. We knew it would be a long day, but chose this option rather than trek straight back down to Imlil

Unusually for September a heavy snowfall had dumped, and as we climbed higher it turned to ice. Our safety was clearly his main concern, and as we neared the summit, a narrow ridge to be crossed to access the summit 100 Metres away was icy and potentially dangerous. Despite our pressure to push ahead, he made the decision that we would turn back, and we all soon agreed that this was the right thing to do.

By the time we had returned to the refuge, then Imlil for our bus to Marrakech for the flight home next day, we had been walking 11 hours, and had experienced an epic day of true mountineering. Throughout, he was chatty, educational and lovable. We donated boots and a waterproof jacket to him, and gave him a generous tip. He even phoned our bus driver on our way to Marrakech to tell us that we had left our Walkie-Talkies with him.

Mohammads two actions proved beyond doubt his honesty and integrity. I can highly recommend him as well as "Trekking in Morroco" Mike Solan

“Exhilarating...but tiring! 1 day tour”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2014

We arranged our transport with a tour company (Hip Marrakech), before we arrived in Marrakech. The driver arrived at our hotel about 20 minutes before the pre-arranged pick-up time of 9:00. He was fantastic as on the way to Imlil we were able to stop at the Berber Market, the Co-operative where the women were making argon oil and we also made a stop at Kasbah Tamadot just to look around and take pics. It took about 2 hours with the stops to get to the mountains. There were mountain guides waiting in the little village centre. We paid 200dh (100dh each) and began our trek through the mountains. The scenery was beautiful but the walk while exhilarating was very tiring for un-fit me. Remember to wear appropriate shoes and take a bottle of water with you. Half way up we stopped to have mint tea in a Berber home which was quite nice. It took us about 3 hours to complete the trek but that's mainly because I kept stopping every few minutes for a break. What was really nice was the lunch we had at the Atlas Tichka at the end of our trek, the beef tagine was really good.

“Ibrahim, was the perfect guide and made it the perfect experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2014

We spent 3 days trekking in the Imlil Valley which Ibrahim made both insightful and pleasurable.
He showed us a true view of Berber life. We stayed at an idyllic Berber guesthouse, we were given perfect hospitality by the family that owned it and made to feel very welcome.
The food was exceptional the entire tour and given the limited cooking facilities the chef and Ibrahim's mule helper produced some wonderful simple cuisine.

“Imlil - 1 day trek”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2014

Our day trip was organised with Hassan at Trekking In Morocco Services S.A.R.L
Adventure & Outdoor Holidays In Morocco.

We went on an organised trip to the Atlas mountains on a culture trek and were picked up on time from the hotel and driven in a lovely clean people carrier (with air-con) to the Berber village of Asni. At Asni, we were met by our guide Ibrahim who gave us a brief history of the local region and confirmed what the trip would consist of. Part of the trek was on foot so if you decide to do this make sure you have strong knees and sturdy footwear! The rest of the trek was by donkey and each donkey had it's own guide. Our journey took us past the waterfalls, through local villages on the way to the Asni, which is nestled in the hills of Imlil. A delicious but basic traditional Berber family lunch was served in beautiful surroundings (included in the price) before we walked back to the village and local shops and were driven back to Marrakech. Wherever you are in Morocco beware people trying to sell you trinkets and souvenirs, even in the mountains!

Our guide spoke fluent English and French and throughout the trip he shared snippets of information about the region and it's history, which was fascinating.

Booking was easy and arrangements were flexible. We were able to email our numerous questions to Hassan before arriving in Marrakech, which he answered promptly and efficiently, giving us confidence that we would have the trip that we wanted.

The local Berber people are very proud of their heritage and keen to show it off. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this trip to anyone wishing to travel to the Atlas mountains and would definitely recommend this tour company.
