4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2013

We spend 3 nights in this guesthouse and we have been extremely satisfied. We haven't book online, we have paid a bit more than all other guests, but they gave us a new, clean, quite room with a big bathroom with shower in a house nearby....dinner and breakfast were included and the food and atmosphere were really good! Sometimes it seems to be a bit chaotic the arrangement of the guests....but at the end there is a place to sleep and for eating for everybody :) I'm gonna stay there again if I will have the chance to travel in that area once more!

wanted a 'get away from it all holiday', to do nothing & relax & Dar Tighoula was the perfect place. First we spent a few 'mad' days in Marrakech & was more than ready to chill out in beautiful surroundings with wonderful food in Dar Tighoula.
Lahsen & the staff looked after us very well, & the food was excellent,
Thanks to everyone who helped make our stay a memorable one.

We arrived at Dar Tighoula as strangers. In a few short days we became friends and family in this awesome High Atlas mountains. Lahsn's warmth, graciousness and desire to go "the extra mile" to help us in any way possible was so deeply appreciated. He is an amazing host and made us feel like we were part of the family. fatima's coking, henna hand painting and smile will keep our bellies warm and hearts warm for a long time to come.
An excellent stay and I would certainly recommend to other travellers.

2 weeks ago I was in Dar Tighoula having a lovely relaxing time after toubkal, the place is amazing and the people were so friendly. My deepest thanks to saida and both Lahsn's, they were so special to us.. .Oh I miss them all, kadija's food and Ahmed services. I have left a piece of my heart in there and I promise to go back and take lots of pens for the kids in the village. Everything was so special that 3 days were too short to enjoy everything that Dar Tighoula could offer. I've made friends in there that I'd never forget. Thank you Dar Tighoula for being a second home to me!

I do travel quiet a lot and this is the first time I come accross something of this kind. It is really unusual place, the location is perfect on the top of the Atlas mountains, the people are so friendly and the stuffs make you feel like you are home. The food is amazing so rich of flavours, and so delicious. the first place where guests gather together as one single family and eat together and do their activities together too.
There is so much to do, like horse hicking, visiting the local market. or just relax in the lounge watching the mountains.
It was an amazing experience that I would love to repeat as soon as possible.

Positive:

Great for Backpackers, really cheap, friendly and lovely roof. Good basis to do hikes (alone or guided) Small village with shops and restaurants 10 minute walk. Large room pictured is lovely with balcony and nice view.
Accommodating to complaints - heaters provided on second night as freezing to try sleep, light in bathroom fixed.

Negatives:

Toilet in large room pictured not attached to floor so moves when sitting on it - broke completely on last night - not pleasant!
Smaller room very dark, no view, tiny window, shower/toilet leaks, no sink. And toilet seat not attached so difficult to sit on.
Towels very thin - like tea towels, - take your own.
Freezing at night (March) and staff kept leaving door open even when we asked multiple times to close it when they enter/leave.
Still very cold in early morning - hot water in shower took 2 hours to heat up after request.
Dinner expensive - 70 Dirhams (around 7 quid) so either budget for this or go to the village for dinner.
Agreed to reduce it to 40 Dirhams as we didn't want all the sides, just a tagine. However when it came to pay they charged us 60 per meal due to things we didnt ask for such as desert (yogurt and some orange) which I thought was a bit cheeky.
Not much to do in evening, too cold to sit in living area that long - also on second night asked to be quiet at 10.30pm when talking to just one other traveller so the staff could go to sleep.

However, I still recommend this place for backpackers, due to value and location and friendliness of staff.

What a lovely, low key spot to relax, stretch, think, read, enjoy the sunshine, tea and sounds of a quiet little Moroccan working village. Don't expect the hilton- but if you like quaint atmosphere and the option of a squat toilet then this is your place.
Caught the grand taxi with 5 others (whom I was fortunate to have show up to share the taxi) to Imlil from Marrakech for 35dirhim. Was a little unsure but hopeful that we were walking the right way up the hill out of town to get to the house and were luckily greeted by the owner at the door, there was a small sign pointing left off the main road.
The stay was wonderful- comfy beds, more blankets if needed, great brekky and dinner, lovely sunny roof for resting and stretching, beautiful mountain view, drumming and dancing one night when it was some visitors birthdays, easy access to small day hikes and information and help organising the walk to Jbel Toubkal, easy access to cheap groceries in town, and an affectionate (almost overly, especially at dinner time) ginger cat to warm your lap.
And the best thing: the beautiful- souled women and people who work here who help so much to make it comfortable despite language barriers. Thankyou so much guys!
