“Friendly & cosy hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2013

Recently stayed at tropical attitude hotel and I fully enjoyed my stay. It's not a busy hotel as it's a small complex in comparison to the other big hotels on the island but it's nice, cosy, clean and the staff are ever so kind and helpful. Mohun and his team were the perfect hosts and went out of their to ensure our short stay was simply perfect and ensured my gluten free diet was met too. Also the view from the balcony was breath taking.

5 out of 5 for me!!

My partner and I stayed for ten nights in this wonderful place. The views from the room balcony were excellent. I have coeliacs disease and called the hotel in advance. I was catered from start to finish with utmost care and consideration. Fresh bread was made for my meal sittings and all diet requirements were exceptionally catered for. The evenings are quiet but felt relaxed and content with the stunning views and trips we experienced in this time. A great service throughout and needs catered with no hassle or delays. We would recommend this hotel for a truly relaxing and friendly time away.

Room Tip: All rooms have a beautiful view.

We syayed from 5th october for 2 weeks. What can i say, wonderful comes to mind. This hotel may be small but it has a big heart. The staff are all wonderful and cant do enough for you. This hotel may not be 5* with posh bathrooms and marble floors but the atmosphere is friendly and relaxing, the rooms are cosy and clean, all with wonderful sea views and the pool area is a relaxing haven which is pleasing to the eye. The beach infront of the rooms is quite corally so best to take water shoes but its still beautiful to sunbathe and daydream whilst looking out at the amazing view of the different views of the Indian ocean whilst laying on your comfortable sunbeds (there are plenty) outside your room. If you want a sandy beach there is one within a 5minute walk around to the left which is great for a swim. Personally i enjoyed wandering around there for a walk and a swim but enjoyed sunbathing outside our room, it had everything you needed, cool drinks, a lovely pool, the amazing view and the convenience of being near your room if you needed anything. The free boat to Isle au cerfs is a treat, the boat leaves at 9am or 10am and they return at 2.30 or 3.30. The hotel will make you up a packed lunch (take plenty of water with you, just ask at the bar), order your lunch the day before when you book your place on the boat. The island is beautiful and has the bluest crystal clear water which is quite shallow in places. It also felt hotter over there aswell. Be warned the sunbeds are expensive, £15 to hire 2, just take your towels from the hotel, most do, you can chanfe them when you get back to the hotel.
The food was plentyful, (you wont starve) not as much choice as the big hotels but we always found something nice to eat. Breakfast was great, Karen the egg lady cooked great fried eggs, omlettes and pancakes to order. There is bacon but its kept in the oven so just ask. For those who complained about the food i would say look at the wider picture, if you want chips and burgers at every meal then perhaps the Indian ocean isnt the holiday for you, (try Benidorm!!!) If there really is nothing you fancy the staff are very obliging and go out of their way to cook you something else. My husband likes a hot curry so asked if it was possible to have one, Sunil our fab waiter sorted it for him. The dessertsare limited and not to everyones taste but just ask for some ice cream if this is the case. I put on 5lbs this holiday, we all eat far too much, we really dont need 15 mains and 12 desserts as the larger hotels offer!!!
We were very lucky to be approached by Moha one of the managers who asked us if we would like to have dinner at a Mauritian family home. This is a great idea by the hotel to let visitors to the island see some of the real Mauritus. We were fortunate to dine at the home of Vikash and his wife Pria, Vikash works in the finance department of the hotel. We went along with 2 other couples and were treated to a wonderful evening of traditional food and hospitality. This is a great idea and felt very lucky to be asked. We were made to feel very welcome, meeting Vikash's cute daughter and his lovely mother in law who helped to cook for us. We were encouraged to help prepare some of the food which was great fun. If you get the opportunity definately say yes.
The hotel has some light entertainment most evenings, mainly singers and some local dancing groups but nice to have some music during dinner. Also some local stools set up to sell local nic naks scarfs etc.
A big tankyou goes out to our lovely waiters and waitresses Hugo, Sunil, Davina, Queenela our favourites Karen thegg lady who never failed to smile every morning. And big thanks to all those behind the scene who often get forgotten.
My last words n this amazing little corner of Mauritius is GO SOON you wont regret it.
Must say hi to Will and Carole, Peter and Wendy, Jamie and Ali, Sally and Paul for our evening pow wows, we had some great laughs over lots of alcohol. Will your stories were so entertaining we loved them.

Room Tip: Our room was 107, perfect, stairs from the balcony stright down to the beach with great view from ou...

We stayed at the Tropical Attitude hotel in Trou d'eau Douce, Mauritius for 14 nights in October 2013. As a fellow guest said whilst we were there, this hotel offers "everything it says on the tin". All rooms offer a sea view and have either a balcony or a patio area. We were fortunate enough to have Room 304 which has a patio and were, therefore, only a few steps from the cushioned sun beds looking over the beach and turquoise sea.

The purpose of our holiday was to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. After a very long and tiring journey, we were welcomed to the hotel by the manager, Mohun with iced tea and cold flannels. The warm welcome we received from Mohun was echoed by all the staff and special mention must go to Sunil, Christophe, Davina and Hugo in the restaurant who waited on us throughout our stay; Karen who prepared the most wonderful scrambled eggs for our breakfast every morning (our choice - there was plenty more to choose from); the chefs who created wonderful meals and would prepare something special on request if necessary; the 'massage twins' who eased our aching muscles from so much sunbathing and the housekeepers who kept our room spotless and created beautiful swans and elephants with our towels! Nothing was ever too much trouble for any of the staff who were always extremely friendly and provided exceptional service throughout.

Unlike other reviewers of this hotel, our experience was that on most evenings, there was a full waiter service with meals chosen from a varied menu. Occasionally, there was a buffet service in the evening, but there was always plenty of choice. Although most meals came with a sauce, it was not too much trouble to request something a little less elaborate if that was our wish.

The hotel is quite small but we always felt there was plenty of space. The pool area is stunning and we never had a problem finding sun beds either there or immediately outside our room. Indeed, we generally chose to sunbathe near our room in the morning and then by the pool in the afternoon.

Daily free boat trips over to Ile aux Cerfs provided the opportunity to explore paradise and the hotel supplied packed lunches which were amazing. The guys in the boat house were a great source of local information and were very helpful in identifying the varied sea life we were fortunate enough to encounter.

We did go out on a number or excursions which were supplied by our tour company, but as this is a review for the hotel, we have not made reference to them here. Mauritius, however, is stunning and we fully intend to return at some point in the not too distant future. When doing so, we will not hesitate to return to the Tropical Attitude which we considered to be an English speaking paradise.

Room Tip: With all rooms enjoying a sea view, it matters not whether you have a ground floor or upper floor ro...

We spent a week at this lovely hotel, I can really recommend this hotel, service was excellent and the view from your room is breathtaking! Looked at so many other hotels but could not find a place where you can actually lie on your bed and have this stunning view of the tropical blue waters! Breakfast was just that a Feast! Best crus sons I have tasted in my life and the pancakes man o man. We were spoiled rotten and the free trips to Ill le Cerf are a must! The staff from the boat house was especially very friendly and helpful! Berty even went into town to buy us a local sim card for our mobile phone and Jean took is around the island on our way to the platform for parasailing * this is a big must do!
This hotel is excellent value for money and a real gem!
Thank you to all the staff at Tropical attitude we enjoyed our stay with you!

Let's be honest, It isn't a 4 or 5 star with infinity pools and luxury all around. It is a small, 3 star hotel with good sized rooms, nice balconies with fantastic views over the indian ocean.

On the down side.....
the evening meals are a little repetitive (every evening meal has a sauce).
the bathrooms are a bit dated (but adequate) and you must take your own toiletries/shampoo etc
there are no lights in the swimming pool so the bar area is a dark at night
there is limited evening entertainment
there is no where to "promenade" in the evening
hotel is quite isolated
the beach is narrow, rough under foot with coral so you need proper beach shoes and the sea has lots of rock so not easy for swimming in
some public pathways have broken cobble stones
there are no daytime activities laid on by the hotel - you are just there to sunbathe!

On the up side:
staff work hard to please you
breakfast was very good (loved the pancakes with lemon and cinnamon sugar)
rooms are spacious and air conditioned
balconies are large and have fabulous views over the ocean
plenty of sun loungers
drinking water is provided free of charge
there is a daily shuttle boat to "the island" which is more tropical/sandy than the beach in front of the hotel
packed lunches are provided free of charge and are actually pretty good.
there is a spa (UK prices apply)
there is always a breeze/wind which is refreshing
there is a dartboard and table tennis
you can walk along the beach to find an area that has more sand.

All in all, we enjoyed our 11 lazy days, sunbathing and reading. We did one day trip to the south of the island to see some scenery but the organised trip was quite expensive (about £70 each) and I am not sure it was value for money. Better to walk along to the public beach and agree a price with a local taxi driver to hire him and his car for the day (about £35 - £40). The public beach is found by walking left out of the beach side of the hotel....away from the town. Walk for about 20 mins, past the other hotels until you reach the public beach. There you will see local people and local taxis which are much cheaper than the taxis at the hotel.

Hope this information helps. Have fun....relax and enjoy.

My fiancé and I stayed there for 4 days and 3 nights. We had a wonderful time, these were exactly what we needed after two dreadful months of work and hard times we had.

The hotel is rather small, which makes it more comfortable and peaceful than others, Family Members are really considerate (once again, many many thanks to Christophe - thanks for all these little attentions that made our trip different from all the others we may know, Hugo, and Benedicte and Mohun, and also toall the other staff members who are too numerous for me to remember them all). We had never eaten that much in so little time: the meals were delicious, varied and original. The evening shows were nice too.

Our room (410) was really comfortable: the ocean welcame us when we arrived and we could constantly admire the wonderful landscape behind our door. The bed was gigantic, but the bathroom quite small, which is really not what matters the most for a couple on Holiday, or for a family whose children constantly play in the nice swimming pool. We couldn't swim in the sea on the seashore by the hotel, but daily boats to l'Ile aux Cerfs allowed us to swim AND to try sensational activities like parasailing!

We had amazing holidays we will never forget. Thank you for these wonderful moments. We hope we will have the opportunity to come back within a few years...
