“Intimate, Simple, Quiet, Beautiful Resort.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 16, 2011

We stayed at Le Tropical in the first 2 weeks of March and would recommend it highly. It was all inclusive, where sometimes the food gets slightly repetitive and dull, however, the food at Le Tropical was delicious. A different menu every day for 2 weeks, which swapped from a'lacarte (3, 4 or 5 course meal) to buffet style day by day. We were surprised at the quality of the food for All Inclusive, you could'nt go wrong with the fresh fish; And the local wine and beer was lovely too.
The staff were friendly and helpful. We arrived to a refreshing cocktail, which was needed in the 30 degree morning heat, and a cool towel.
The Rooms are simple but clean. The hotel shop is a slight rip off so don't buy anything from there, take a taxi into the nearest town to the superstore where it is 3 times cheaper, or walk to the next village and there are basic shops there. With regards to money, it would be well worth calling the hotel directly or trying the internet before you leave for your holiday to check out the current exchange rate in Mauritius as it will almost certainly be better than the rates in the UK... we lost about £100 by changing UK£ to Euro travellers checks in UK then to Mauritian Rupee's at Hotel!
The Island has a lot to do if you want to go on days out, I would recommend walking with Lions at Capella National Park, swimming with wild Dolphins and Big Game Fishing. Or if you just want to chill and sit in the sun, you wont need to reserve a sun bed.
Buy some shoes for the sea before you go as the beach outside the hotel is covered with coral and shingle (right next to the shore line that is) plus beware of the stone fish that have spikes on their backs once stepped on & the Sea Urchins.
The beach is small around the hotel but on either side of the bank is a lovely stretch of beach that is generally quite quiet and more sandy...
Le Tropical offer a free boat ride to the local Island of Ills Eau Cerfs (a paid excursion for many other hotels). This is a lovely sandy beach island with shallow waters. Don't pay for the sun beds though (cost £5 each), you are just as well putting your towel on the sand and laying on the beach for free.
The humidity of Mauritius is quite intense, but on the east coast it is windy most of the time so it takes the edge off.... However, this does mean you can burn easily in the sun, so be careful! We had a wonderful holiday in Mauritius, everything we could have asked for and more, thanks to Le Tropical hotel, the friendly Mauritian people and the hot tropical sun!!

we stayed for three weeks including Christmas, and it was one of the best holidays
we have had. We will always remember the friendliness of the staff, nothing was a bother to
them. Rakesh for keeping our room spotless, Ahmed for keeping my husband happy with
a ready bottle of Guiness. On Christmas morning we had a Champaign breakfast and there it was! a bottle of ice cold Guiness in the Champaign bucket just for him. Table 32 was
our table of choice and Cutee and Danielle looked after our every need. We stayed in a five
star hotel last year in Maurituis, and it was lovely, but it did not have the atmosphere that this
wonderful Hotel has. The food was fantastic, better than the 5 star.
The beach was not the best but a short walk finds a lovely stretch of beach. A free shuttle
boat to the island 3 times a day with a packed lunch if wanted.
Altogether a fantastic holiday, I would recommend this hotel to everyone.

the hotel is on the east coast and has many attributes.its small, intimate ,not overlypriced and has clean rooms and friendly staff.for the isle de cocos trip which is an absolute must, you are in the best position on the island for transfers.again you are in excellent position for for the isle de cerfs, which is visible from the shoreline.this is accesible 3 times a day from the hotel, and allows you to have a more varied option for the holiday.the hotel rooms have a huge double bed, robe spac e and shower room with wc etc.not the ritz,,but more than adequate.only thing for me was the air con was noisy.food is very good, featuring buffet style, and set menu,s over the week, the fish either served or curried was always stunning.the staff in the kitchen/dining area were very courtious and very helpful.white wine was poor though its local and not a common drink, red was average also.marlin/pheonix beers very good.pool is small and compact, reception was as is and the wee shop was decent.get a feel for the people and the culture, embrace their ways and have a great time.hope this review is helpful to you .i would go back.

We stayed at Le Tropical over Christmas and New Year's and had such a great time. The staff are amazing and so friendly, they make you always feel at home and have everything you need. The food was always good and plentiful, the rooms are basic but very clean and have everything you need, as you spend so little time there anyway. There are loads of amazing excersions and activities at and around the hotel and island, and everything gets arranged for you.

We had an amazing time and will certainly be making a return trip in the future!

I can't understand why anyone would complain about this hotel.

Myself and my husband stayed there at the end of October - beginning of November this year.

When we arrived at the hotel we were met with a smile and given a cold towel and a cocktail, much appreciated after a 2 hour delay. The staff introduced themselves and showed us to our room, which was light and airy and exceptionally clean. Cleaner that a lot of so called 4* hotels in Britain.

All the staff in the hotel were exceptionally friendly, Rakesh the young man that was our room valet ensured our room was spotless throughout our stay.

The hotel is small and intimate which means that getting to know other guests is fairly unavoidable, but that made our holiday all that much better as we made some very good friends. the first week we were there the hotel was very quiet, however, the second week it was full, I have got to admit I did prefer it quiet, but even when it got busy the service didn't suffer.

Why people complain about the cemetary is beyond me, it has no adverse affect on the hotel at all.

The food throughout the fortnight was varied. some nights were buffet service and other nights were table d'hote. You also had the option some nights of ordering lobster, which I did on a couple of occasions and I wasn't disappointed.

We did the trip to Ille de deux Cocos, that was a very relaxing day indeed and the buffet lunch was exceptional. Whilst on this trip there were some guest from the Legends hotel which is a 5* hotel, on returning to our hotel they were horrified to see that there was only 1 small pool and found it rather beneath them, however, whichever way you look at it you can only use one pool at any one time, so what's the problem?

The only thing that did leave a little to be desired was the entertainment at night, the singers tended to be average and a bit too loud making conversation difficult at times, however, the Sega nights were great fun.

If you want 5*, pay for it and go 5*, don't go to this lovely little intimate hotel and then come on here and rip shreds off it.

Once again we spent our holiday at this hotel, last year 3 weeks, this year 4 weeks.
We met several couples who come back year after year. This is not however a hotel for young children, as apart from a smallish swimming pool, there are no facilities.
The staff were wonderful and friendly, it says alot about the management, if i say that nearly all the staff were there last year.
Probably better weather if we had gone a little later in the year (Mid Nov to mid Dec).
Note weather tends to be very humid.
This year we took a speedboat trip to an exotic island near the airport, dont ask the price, i just remember a wonderfull day out!
