We stayed at Le Tropical in the first 2 weeks of March and would recommend it highly. It was all inclusive, where sometimes the food gets slightly repetitive and dull, however, the food at Le Tropical was delicious. A different menu every day for 2 weeks, which swapped from a'lacarte (3, 4 or 5 course meal) to buffet style day by day. We were surprised at the quality of the food for All Inclusive, you could'nt go wrong with the fresh fish; And the local wine and beer was lovely too.
The staff were friendly and helpful. We arrived to a refreshing cocktail, which was needed in the 30 degree morning heat, and a cool towel.
The Rooms are simple but clean. The hotel shop is a slight rip off so don't buy anything from there, take a taxi into the nearest town to the superstore where it is 3 times cheaper, or walk to the next village and there are basic shops there. With regards to money, it would be well worth calling the hotel directly or trying the internet before you leave for your holiday to check out the current exchange rate in Mauritius as it will almost certainly be better than the rates in the UK... we lost about £100 by changing UK£ to Euro travellers checks in UK then to Mauritian Rupee's at Hotel!
The Island has a lot to do if you want to go on days out, I would recommend walking with Lions at Capella National Park, swimming with wild Dolphins and Big Game Fishing. Or if you just want to chill and sit in the sun, you wont need to reserve a sun bed.
Buy some shoes for the sea before you go as the beach outside the hotel is covered with coral and shingle (right next to the shore line that is) plus beware of the stone fish that have spikes on their backs once stepped on & the Sea Urchins.
The beach is small around the hotel but on either side of the bank is a lovely stretch of beach that is generally quite quiet and more sandy...
Le Tropical offer a free boat ride to the local Island of Ills Eau Cerfs (a paid excursion for many other hotels). This is a lovely sandy beach island with shallow waters. Don't pay for the sun beds though (cost £5 each), you are just as well putting your towel on the sand and laying on the beach for free.
The humidity of Mauritius is quite intense, but on the east coast it is windy most of the time so it takes the edge off.... However, this does mean you can burn easily in the sun, so be careful! We had a wonderful holiday in Mauritius, everything we could have asked for and more, thanks to Le Tropical hotel, the friendly Mauritian people and the hot tropical sun!!
