“60th Birthday of my Mother-in-law !”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 days ago NEW

We stayed at the Friday Attitude during the last week of April, it was for the 60th birthday of my mother-in-law and were in total 12 people and 2 babies and we did had a great time.

The hotel is modern, it has an amazing beach and a very good snorkelling. The rooms are really nice, they are spacious and clean. WiFi is normally not available in rooms, however my husband and I were lucky enough to enjoy it.

My mother-in-law was offered a cake for her birthday which we really appreciate.

The only drawback of the hotel is the food of the restaurant where there is not enough choice (for breakfast - no pain aux chocolates, no croissants and for dinner we had an Indian Buffet where there was only 2 choice of curry and not even chicken curry) If this is improved the hotel will have only Excellent reviews !

We will surely come back !

We stayed 5 days at "Friday Attitude" at the East coast in combination with another 5 days in the Zilwa Attitude hotel in the North East of Mauritius (Seperate review).

Friday Attitude is about 40 minutes from the airport by taxi. We arranged a transfer by the hotel reception. The hotel is the renovated version of the former 'Bougainville' hotel and it sits on the East coast of Mauritius, close to the small village of Trou d'eau douce. The hotel is completely renovated and opened in september 2014, giving you the feeling of a very modern, trendy and completely new resort.

We had a very warm welcome at the reception, with refreshing towels, and after the checkin we were informed about the hotel facilities etc.

The hotel is not that big (50 rooms is my estimate) and that gives a very calm and relaxed atmosphere. Many people are on the road for a daytrip/excursion and as such the hotel grounds itself are very calm, also at the beach and the pool area. There was always plenty of place.

The beach is probably one of the nicest beaches you can find on Mauritius. Crystal clear waters, corals/fish can be spotted within a few meters of the beach and its deep enough to swim around. The reef break is a couple of hundred meters aways and the lagoon provides sheltered area, safe to swim for kids as well. Tidal range is about 50-60cm, no noticable currents.

We were on all inclusive, meaning that we could use kayaks, pedal boat and snorkling gear for free. No sailing boats/windsurfsets/standup paddle boards available though.

There is 1 restaurant for breakfast/lunch/diner, a beach bar for snacks/drinks and a 2nd bar at the front desk.

All inclusive deal was good, many drinks/cocktails were included, food was ranging from average to very good depending on the evening/theme. Diner had a different theme every night, sometimes buffet and sometimes ala carte, which was nice. Although we would not stay for more than a week because that it could start to become repetitive. That's one of the reasons we booked to 2 resorts. There was always a selection of food, also rice/pasta for the kids as an alternative if they didnt like the stuff/fish/whatever they were not familiar with. You could always ask for something else like yoghurt for desert for the kids and they would prepare that for you.

Another plus is the possibility to book a lunch package for a daytrip/excursion next day. well prepared.

Breakfast/lunch was usually the same but good quality; Kids loved the freshly baked pancakes.

Usually there is a singer/music act at the beach bar, up to 22.00. Not to loud, just relaxed and nice to have a drink after dinner.

Swimming pool is not that big, but good enough to swim around or for the kids to play. Seperate shallow part for the little ones.

The whole hotel ground/garden is beautiful decorated with lounge sets/cushions, parasols and palm trees and plants.

Its a quite narrow ground stretching all the way from the reception to the beach. All rooms are at one side, not facing to each-other. We had a family room between reception and swimming pool, facing the sea, no sea view though because of the trees (room 312). The room was nicely decorated, had a separate bedroom for the kids. Strangely enough the bathroom was in the separate kid room. Both rooms had airco and were nicely renovated with modern styling. The bathroom was lacking ventilation. Good quality beds, big and comfortable. clearly new as well.

Hotel organises several excursions. We went to Ile aux Cerfs, one of the finest islands around the coast of mauritius. Paradise beach.

Wifi available in public area's, also at the beach. Not in the rooms, although we had wifi on our balcony.

Around the hotel is not much to do on walking distance. Trou d'eau douce is the nearest by small fishermen village, not spectacular but closest to what resembles to civilisation.

All in all a good choice to stay, fully according to our expectations. Staff is very friendly and you feel at home right away. Looks like a brand new resort.

We liked the concept of visiting 2 resorts in Mauritius, Gives a different feel, you get to see other places of the island and there's more variety in food/hotel experience.

Highly recommended!

Could not fault The location. Staff. Cleanliness Friendliness organisation. All faultless. Sean and Denise Perry. Brockenhurst. Hampshire. It's a shame Trip Advisor demand 200 letters for a review. A lot more people would support holiday companies if that were reduced. Stupid!

We read quite a few reviews about this hotel before we booked, and mostly it seemed to be just what we were looking for, small, friendly, on the beach with good snorkelling, nice rooms etc. There were a few reviews which painted a not-so-idyllic picture, but you get those with even the best hotels, so we tended to ignore them.
But for us, those not so good reviews turned out to be very accurate, the food issue being chief among them. The first few days we were there the food was lovely, but after that it seemed to deteriorate. The quality was always good, but it was tasteless, not enough herbs and spices, or variety. For an island that embraces both French and Asian influences I would have expected there to be more choice. Which you do get if you venture outside the hotel and visit other restaurants. The only problem with that is the Friday Attitude is a good 20 minute walk from the village centre, with it's shops and cafe/restaurants, and at night it could be dangerous, walking along an unlit road with no footpaths. So unless you hire a car (at £40 per day for the smallest) you are basically trapped there.
The rooms are really nice, they are spacious, clean and well appointed, and the maid service is very good. Ours was a downstairs garden view room, and as it was near the reception we were able to get WiFi in the room itself, but I believe a lot of people couldn't get it, judging by the amount of people who were using iPads, phones and computers whilst eating in the buffet restaurant!!!
Another criticism mentioned in some reviews was the lack of service at the bars. I found this to be such a problem it was usually quicker to go to the shop across the road from the hotel and purchase some cans and water to keep in the room, and fetch them when required. Although my wife never had a problem getting served. Funny, that!
All the staff were very friendly, even the barmen when they weren't behind the bar.
And the title, Friday Platitude? Well, two things stood out which made me put this. I requested an upgrade to a Sea View room if one became available. The staff said that they would keep me informed and when one became available they would let us know. That never happened, not even keeping in touch to let us know one way or the other. The other thing which annoyed me was on the last morning. Our flight was in the morning which necessitated an early pick up. We were told there would be a cold buffet breakfast available. I asked if cereals would be available, to which I was promised there would be. Come the morning there was tea and coffee, some dried bread and some fruit. Nothing else. Needless to say, I went hungry to the airport.
So it was a case of good at giving promises, not so good at delivering them.
The reef off the beach of the Friday Attitude is full of life, there's some beautiful, colourful fish and if you swim out towards the surf line the coral is spectacular. But the sea can be very rough at times. Whilst we were there, a cyclone passed the island about 300 miles away and affected the island with rain, wind and high seas, making it unpleasant to swim!
Mauritius has to be explored. It's a lovely island absolutely covered with sugar cane plants, making it very green, a bit like England in the summer with the corn fields. The climate is very similar too, except with a lot more humidity. Car hire is about £40 per day and it is perfectly safe to drive there, they drive on the left, as in Britain, and have the same road rules too.
But is it worth an 11,000 mile round trip, flying 12 hours there and 12 hours back? We were expecting Mauritius to be a cross between Sri Lanka and the Maldives, and in fact found it to be more like a cross between Cyprus and Britain, with an African influence.

Dear Guests,

Thank you for your review on Friday Attitude.
We read with great concern your disappointment after your stay with us. We apologize for not meeting your expectations.
We have taken good note of your comments. Some corrective actions have already been taken. Some changes have been made in the menu and we have recruited another bartender to improve our service.
As far as the sea view room is concerned, we have only 6 rooms in this category and unfortunately all were indeed already occupied.
All your points have been shared with all departments concerned and discussed accordingly.
Again, thank you for your constructive feedback.

We stayed at the Friday Attitude during the first week of April 2015, in a family room with two little boys. We arrived in the morning, way before check-in time and were greeted warmly. Our room was made ready within 30 min, while we were served a welcome cocktail at the beach bar. Arriving at a hotel, after a long flight with children, doesn't get better than that!
Our family room was very spacious and could have accommodated 3 children! Housekeeping did an amazing job as well. Thanks again. The hotel's website mentions wifi connection in the reception and public areas, and since our room was close to the reception, we were lucky to catch the signal in our room as well, which was unexpected and very much appreciated.

Throughout our stay, all staff members were extremely polite, warm and caring, everyone was professional and added their personal touch to everything they do.
Most of the hotel guests, who were there at the same time as us, were on full-board or all-inclusive-basis, whereas we had booked bed&breakfast only because we were driving around in order to discover amazing Mauritius. Needless to say that the island is well worth the visit, and that there is so so much to see and do that a week was not enough to tick everything we had put on our list!!!

The hotel's breakfast buffet is rich, and food is always plenty. The only suggestion I would make, is to change the food items every other day as it got repetitive. Other than that, all was perfect.

The hotel is beautifully situated on an amazing beach. The beach bar is cozy and welcoming, and the evening entertainment is fun, too.
Our boys enjoyed the kids' club with table tennis, beach volleyball, pétanque, card games, etc. A big thank you to the animators who always made our boys feel welcome and taken care of.

The Friday Attitude really is true to its name. It has a very relaxed, quiet, laid back feel to it. Families with children enjoy their stays, and everyone enjoys having children around.

For travelers like us, who like to explore places, it might be worth mentioning that in Trou d'Eau Douce, there are several excellent restaurants for dinner. Two that really stand out are "Chez Tino" and "Green Island Restaurant". Both serve excellent Mauritian cuisine at reasonable prices. Dinner at the hotel is awesome as well, by the way. We especially enjoyed the table d'hôte.

We wanna come back!!! And we already look forward to it. You really left an impression, Friday Attitude, and I can say that - I am from the hotel industry ;-).

Sayed in Friday for 10 days with two infants.Hotel has a very smart management. Each and every staff is so friendly that u really feel at home. Chefs at restaurant cooked food for infants separately as they are too small to eat from buffet. All staff at restaurant and bar was exceptional.we used baby sitting services which was done by Sharona, who was really caring about the kids. There was aqua aerobic and Zumba classes done by Sharon, who was really flexible with time and could do it any time we want!barmen Kamleesh was really friendly as my husband spent most of the time at the bar:)Restaurant staff welcomed us as a family even we had to come to feed kids when restaurant closed. All the guests at the hotel was really sweet people.I heard from some of them that they came back from 5* hotels to Friday.Beach is great, clean, enough sun beds, really long with beautiful view. Will definitely come back and recommend this hotel to everyone!Thank you Friday Attitude was awesome holiday!
