“Brilliant Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 7, 2012

My Wife and I went to Mauritius for 3 weeks holiday in November with Mercury Travel which I strongly recommend. We had a great holiday at the Le Palmiste Hotel ...First of all we would like to mention Sashi the hotel manager , who was a very hands on manager , forever present around the hotel to assist, advise and help to insure our stay was a happy experience . He was always very polite and smiling. This very peaceful and pretty hotel with its beautiful and well kept gardens, swimming pools, and restaurant , was a delight for us . Our room was kept spotless and smelling sweet at all times by a lovely lady named Pratima Russom .A Big Thank you to all the Staff who made our holiday a holiday to remember ! ! At 11pm the entertainment stopped and revellers taken to another part of the hotel so that those of us that wanted to sleep could do so in peace ! We strongly recommend this hotel . . .We are well travelled ,and very satisfied with our stay .

We stayed here for 10 days and It was great, we arrived a day earlier than booked but this was not a problem we were offered a drink whilst they sorted the changes out. check in was smooth and easy, throughout our stay the hotel tried to make us feel at home with various activities like the Sega cultural dance, games etc.

Nice place to stay

4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2012

We were in this hotel for a week in July 2012.

We reached Hotel at around 1:00pm local time, they greeted us with a tasty juice and made us very comfortable. I thought that we would have to spend an hour or so in the reception only as the check-in time was at 2:00pm but as soon as we were finished with the juice they took us to the room, well before check-in time :) .

Room was as expected, had everything we needed including a balcony with a table with two chairs. We could see the swimming pool, spa and trees from the room, overall it was a good view. But my wife wanted a beach view from the balcony so she was a little disappointed, but anyways we liked it. Cleanliness was good in the room, but the floor used to be a bit moist many a times. We had a small problem in W.C., it was attended and resolved in minutes.

Restaurant had great ambiance, music was good, there was a dance performance by a group on one evening, veg food was excellent but tried non-veg a day and did not like it much. Restaurant staff was very soft spoken and friendly and almost everyone knew Hindi so preferred talking to us in Hindi only. The main chef came to table everyday just to ask if we liked the food and if we have any special requests for the next day.
There was a very cute cat in the restaurant, it did not trouble us by any means but waited beside our table quietly till we gave it some food.

As we were honeymooners, I was expecting something special in the package like candle light dinner, a visit to spa etc. but till last day but two there was nothing like this, so I had asked for the printout of the the package we were booked for, by our agent. No one gave it to me but on the second last day I got a call from reception that I am entitled for a candle light dinner and a bottle of wine that day. I was surprised but not sure how did that happened. Nevertheless, we enjoyed our candle light dinner and the dance performance on the same day.

On the last day, we decided to go to spa for massage. we went for booking and came to know that spa is closed on Sundays. But the employee over there immediately agreed to come early in the morning for the massage. So generous of her. Not only that she also gave us some discount on the prices.

Overall, it was a great experience in the hotel.
The only thing we missed was a beach in the hotel, rest was just perfect.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 5, 2012 via mobile

Arrival: Greeted nicely with a cold drink and check in was very easy.
All Inclusives: Please read and ask what is the all inclusive package etc at times of booking with your agent. This is a three star hotel and don't expect the service of four stars hotel.
Room: Clean, tidy and comfortable. Air conditioner. Never had room service as we did not need it so cannot comment. There were clear evidence of the room being cleaned on a daily basis. The cleaning lady was very polite and excellent at her job.
Environment: the pools are cleaned daily, the garden being maintained on a daily basis, the restaurant clean.
Beaches: previous review someone mentioned it is 8 mins walk from the hotel. This is being petty and nasty. Slow walk to either right or left after crossing the road it is just 5 minutes away. Lovely beach and we had no problems.
Staff: all the staff are friendly, approachable, pleasing and respectful. From the cleaning lady, the waitresses, the bar man and waiters all are fab and very polite. All were EXCELLENT. For entertainment VIJAY has been excellent. Karaoke, sega, activitiies (day & night) etc. Please remember this is a 3stars hotel. During our 14days stay everything has been perfect.
Drinks: local beers, spirits, water, juice, tea and coffee are in your inclusive package. Other drinks you have to pay. This is usual to other countries we visited. The drinks were not nasty, cheap as previously described! We have found the offers sensible. The drinks we have been ordering were good and taste rather nice too.
Food: typical Mauritian food and every night differs from Chinese to Italian etc etc . We loved all the food. The Chefs tends to come out to greet and ask us of our thoughts of the food etc.
All Inclusive Breakfast 0730-1030
Lunch 1230-1400
Dinner 1930-2200. ( I cannot recall the exact time but this has worked for us).
All in all we liked the food.
Spa: expect to pay London price! Is it worth it I am not sure. I did not go as the charges were extortionate. I'd rather have my usual treatment back in the uk. This is my personal thoughts.
Taxi: we did not need one as we hired a car. But you can have this set ie outside the hotel.
beach Towel: this is provided.
Wifi: good not the best but manageable.
We loved our stay here and will recommend this hotel. We are back next year and will be returning here.
Security: a security guard is at the front of the hotel 24hrs daily. A safe is provided in your bedroom for storing your valuables.

We were made aware the owner visited the hotel and has chatted to various guests. May be the standards had slipped in the past but certainly in our experience everything have been very good.
We shall visit Mauritius again and will stay here again.

We stayed 2 nights at the Le Palmiste. We were lucky to get a room with an outdoor terrace. Other rooms did not have this and it was very warm and hot in these rooms. (even with air conditioning)
The pool did not seem to be cleaned that often, so we used the beach for swimming. The entertainment in the evening was excellent and we also ate a nice dinner meal that was good in the hotel. We did our sightseeing using a taxi which was cheap and safe.

Room Tip: Ask for the outside terrace/balcony.

Were at Le Palmiste for 3 weeks, offer by Merkury Direct,2 weeks all inclusive,1 room only. The service by Merkury was all good, the transfer was waiting etc.The hotel looks nice,a lot of palms and plants, birds singing,it is not very big.We got the room upstairs what became very noisy first night by DJ,we wanted to sleep after long flight.Luckily next nights were peaceful, good music. The rooms are spacious,we liked the balcony. The pillows and the beds were hard for our taste, not so good sleep. It was also a bit hot,as the aircon worked slow.Next to our house were constructing works,so one morning we waked up 7 a clock by terrible noise from there! It was impossible to stay in room.So they removed us to another room, very peaceful one, next to reception area. The aircon there was also OK
The pools are small and dirty. We prefered the beach what is not far and has a clean blue water and a lot of palms with coconuts. But it is not a beach hotel and the beach isnt so near as some people say,you have to cross the street, then walk to the central square to right ,from there left to the public beach. It takes about 8 minutes, and the road can be busy traffic.
The beach is not a paradise beach,it was too crowded and what was very disturbing that the boats were driving between the people, you feel like at harbour.Business! But the water is clean and greenblue and the seabottom sandy,no need special shoes.
There is nothing to do around the hotel, you can find some small eateries or shops only,a small supermarket Czez Popo, but not 2 minutes! You have to walk about 8.
Buses to local places run next to the police station,to Grand Baie and Port Louis .
They clean the room every day and change the towels.Beach towels you get at reception.
We found reception service unfriendly,so some barmen.Exceptional good service by Suren at restaurant!Others can be very slow and dont pay attention if you want to order your drinks.
Most complaints go to the restaurant and all inclusive. We didnt find it good at all,its not worth the money we paid. The only drinks we could drink was beer, water, all the coctails and other spirits were terrible and cheap quality! We cant drink such.I dont understand, why the hotels offer to their all inclusive guests so terrible drinks?First coctail I ordered was very good, then it was told, its not all inclusive!First we didnt understand much what we can get, what not for all inclusive!
The food was sometimes too strange spiced for us and not always fresh and good. Some days was good, some not.Grills were good, fish and chicken. You must go to eat early,as when it finishes, they dont replace the food and you may get none.First days we didnt know that, were used that if we can eat up to 10 morning or evening,we can do that. No!First morning almost everything was finished and they didnt give more,no potatoes,no fruits!Just omelette. At lunch, evening, salads almost finished, not replaced, warmed up,not hygienic!
Then we went earlier to eat.But when you are on holidays, you must not run,I think.
Salads had no choice, sometimes not fresh, the place kept not cold enough and not hygienic, the birds running over at lunch sometimes.I got a bad stomach after 2 days.
No fruits offered, but its a tropical country!Fruits only at breakfast and sometimes not freshly cut, sometimes used the same knife as for onions!Bad taste.Croissants and bred old, baked a day before.Lunch was the poorest, one day we really had nothing to eat,as there was chicken made of yesterdays Indian style chicken what we cant eat,and overgrilled morning sausages! And no more options.
Dinners were better.
At cyclon, they offered so called club sandwiches,200 rupees a piece what was a real nonsence, just bred and remains of chicken..no cleaning, carbidge everywhere..
Control the final bill,as they had made for us a bill about 1200 rupees, instead of 400,what we paid. And so fast was removed 1 call what we didnt make and some other amount what we didnt realise what it was!
The hotel should pay more attention on staff training there, especially on restaurant.Otherwise the hotel is a nice oasis and could be better.
