“Great Place for Holidays”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2012

We came there several times with my family and the experience has always been great.
We were in a 2 bedroom duplex, with views on the sea. Great value for money. It was always really clean and neat. Common pool is really nice to sunbath - there are other villas with their own private pool as well. There is a direct access to the sea/beach from the compound, which is really rare in Mauritius for that price ! Really good for family vacations as you have an equipped kitchen to cook for the children.

We were welcomed by the owner with fresh french baguette and milk in our duplex ! Mauritian people are really nice and helpful.
The location is very nice in the north of Mauritius Island between 2 of the most beautiful beaches I ever seen : Trou aux Biches and Mont Choisy. It is also 15min away from Grand Bay, the touristic village. Several restaurants also around. Weather really nice in the north, always sunny. I recommend that you rent a car because buses are not very convenient.

All in all great family vacations, a good alternative to expensive luxury hotels !

Room Tip: If you want to enjoy your holidays with your family, book one of the private villas with private gar...

This was our first trip to this beautiful island. We arrived very late from Cape Town and very quickly settled into this little gem of a place. The resort is close to the beach - so walking and swimming was really a pleasure. We made use of the local transport which also was a stone's throw from the resort. We where directed to a local restaurant within walking distance and this turned out to be excellent value on the two occasions that we went there..The food too was very tasteful and just what we expected.
Bois d'oiseaux is well run with the owner living on the property - which makes for a hands on approach.
The question is - will we go back again? Unhesitatingly - YES

We went to Bois d'Oiseau as a couple for a break from our busy lives in SA, off season - it was great - starter pack on arrival and close to restaurants, the beach and bank, taxis etc - we walk a lot and we like to cook for ourselves most of the time, so we really enjoyed it! The units have airconditioning in the bedrooms, clean shower rooms and even a safe if needed. Staff are professional and management is on site most of the time for any hassles (we had none!) - if you are going to spend a whirlwind time at a hotel and that's your thing, then you will pay double and be harassed all the time too. we had a great time. The pool is superb, the garden is beautiful and the owners do not allow hawkers and locals inside at all, so you truly have peace. We've been to Club Med and we prefer the self-catering aspect way more now.

Room Tip: Not needed - they are all great - if you are in a big group pay the extra and take one of the front...

Bois d'Oiseaux is not for young people with children. I would recommend it for elderly people that would like to sit and do nothing, viewing nothing and love to drive around in taxi's, the stairs is unsafe and the swimming pool not closed, so not good for children. It was a self catering unit we booked and for the first time in my life I had to take a taxi late at night to go and buy toilet paper because apparently this is also a self catering essential at Bois d Oiseaux. It started with a disappointment when we arrived the first night rather late and found only one bottle of water for a family of five in the fridge and when we went to the room the air conditioner was not working. This was disappointing and one would expect better for a middle class self catering unit. The first night was horrible and the aircon was sincerely missed. Even worse news from the owner was that the aircon could not be fixed because the next day was a Sunday and the Monday a holiday, so I had to sweat every night for 3 nights - no way! I would say if your business is holiday accommodation you need someone who can fix this small irritations for your clients, because weekends and holidays is your busiest times.

We started looking at another place and found an excellent relaxing resort with air conditioned rooms and this is how you would like to remember Mauritius.

I will make sure everybody hear about the good and bad from this stunning place, don't waste your money on cheap places, rather pay a bit more and keep good memories.

Room Tip: Take your own water and toilet paper and some tick and flea powder for the children!
