Mauritius was part of our honeymoon trip and as opposed to what others have said about the island I really loved it. It is full of breathtaking natural spots. You have it all in one relatively small island: beaches, mountains, different species of trees and plantations. Expect a poverty reality, although middle class people can be found too as well as the rich foreigners who live there for business or leisure. However, the beautiful thing about the people on the island is that the less they have the friendlier they are.
We went to the mistical south tour and it was really good so I would suggest this tour, and if you have enough time a one day cruise and a visit to Port Louis would be nice too. The mystical south tour is about 180 euros per couple with one full day private driver and guide as well as lunch and all entry tickets. The Port Louis tour is about 110 euros so u can go by taxi on your own if you just want to shop. The day cruises are more expensive about 200 euros per couple with lunch and free drinks throughout the day and of course transfers from hotel to cruise and back.
About the hotel it is found in a very remote area just in a protruding pointed part of the island, just spectacular. The staff is wonderful, very polite always helpful and always has a smile for you. The hotel decor is very modern but still has that Mauritian elegant and at the same time comfortable appearance. The atmosphere is beautiful. Guests look relaxed and happy and so were we.
The food is very good. We only ate in the main restaurant but it was good every time. The buffet has a good variety and the main restaurant location is splendid both in the morning and at night. The main restaurant alternates set menu nights with buffet nights and both options and we appreciated both. The set menu nights allow you to choose one starter, one maincourse and one desert among 3 options of each course. Every time there is a set menu night the options change so don't fear having to eat always the same. The main restaurant and the Obergine restaurant are included in the half board basis. The Obergine has a beautiful location on the beach and a more relaxed less formal atmospere while the menu is mediterranean grill with many fish dishes.
For us the half board basis worked well because after a huge buffet breakfast we wouldn't dare eating at lunch. For dinner you just have to pay the drinks but don't worry prices are very reasonable.
Just to give you an idea of the prices: a large bottle of water at dinner is 5 euros, an algida cornet is 2 euros, a large coke at dinner is 3.40 euros.
Check in and check out were very efficient and no problems occured with credit cards as sometimes reviewers go through.
Pick up and drop off from and to the airport were arranged for us before departure so we had no worries and the hotel reception is always ready to confirm excursion or tansport times for you whenever you ask. About the currency if you plan to get out of the resort just exchange some of your currency in mauritius rupees at the Mauriitus airport when you arrive or at the hotel you are staying.
About health fears do not do like me. I took with me lots of medicines which we never used and lots of repellents. There are no dangerous mosquitos at least when we went and believe me I am very sensitive and very loved by mosquitos. But just to be sure you can take one repellent bottle and one anti itching cream.
About the overall quality of the hotel believe when you consider it is a 4 stars hotel it is better than many 5 stars I have been to. After staying at Les Pavillons we stayed at Le Prince Maurice which is rated as a 6 stars and although there is a big difference between the two hotels we are still happy to have stayed in both hotels.
Hope this review is helpful.
