Having read some of the negative reviews of the hotel on this site a few days before leaving, I was aprehensive and a little nervous of what to expect when we arrived at Mornea for our honeymoon. I needn't have worried...we were greeted and made to feel very welcome by the duty manager Robin who provided fruit cocktails while we completed the formalities of paperwork and he talked us through the facilities available.
Mornea is located in an awesome setting at the foot of the 700m tall Le Mourne Brabant. The hotel is medium in size, modern in style with a central bar located in the lobby, with evening entertainment and a beautiful pool overlooking the beach and lagoon at the foot of the mountain. The beach can be a little windy, but if you dont mind taking a walk past the Indian resort hotel next door (with which Mornea shares some of its facilities such as the spa and sports facilities) to a stretch of public beach further on there is no wind at all and coral reefs in the lagoon, great for snorkelling!! Due to the remote location of this hotel and extortionate taxi fares, I would recmend a hire car, they are much cheaper than the taxi fares and are essential if you plan to see more of the island.
About the hotel: I have to say that this hotel is great but not perfect in every way. As a recently opened hotel, you get the feeling they still have a few snagging issues to address, such as a few ill fitting plug sockets around the bar, the occasional missing light fitting and the air con in our room which was not working (however as soon as we mentioned this we were provided with an excellent floor standing fan immediately).
We could easily forgive these few small problems as the service we recieved from ALL of the staff was nothing short of exceptional at all times. The staff are mostly French or Creole speaking but most speak very good english too. Nothing was too much trouble for them, we were always gretted with a smile and made to feel special and they were always attentive without being over-bearing.
If you are a fan of watersports such as kite surfing or wind surfing, this hotel is in a great location, its off the beaten track which makes it ideal for couples looking for a quiet retreat and is reasonably priced enough to make it affordable to most budgets while giving the impresiion of a very exclusive hotel.
If peace and quiet and excellent service are important to you, this is in my opinion a hotel well worth a visit and I would recomend it to anyone. We had a wonderful honeymoon here so our thanks go out to all of Le Mornea's wonderful hard working staff who made or trip so unforgettable.
