Our experience differed quite considerably from other TA contributors.
We arrived on the 27th December. On arrival we were met and shown to the bar area and offered a welcome drink, much needed after a long haul flight and long taxi journey. We were then explained to by the hotel manager all of the rules, yes rules of the hotel. For us the main areas appeared to be well kept and yes boutique (great word for cramped) in style. We were shown to our Beach Front room, we could have been on the beach front however, we could not see the beach due to the trees although we had a roof terrace and if we climbed up there we could see the sea. The room was very small and not really fit for purpose, we could not fit our clothes in the wardrobe and had no where to store our luggage which had we stayed we would have needed to leave out anyway to access our clothes. The room was very shabby chic with ants in the sinks and a lot more ants in the bath.
Dinner was a little strange, the food was quite good but it would have been nice to know what we were eating, plates were put in front of us without any description or explaination, desert followed but only when we promted the waiter that we had not had any.
In a very short space of time you realise that the staff seem what I can only describe as frightened or on edge, it was very strange and made you feel very uncomfortable.
On returning to our room there were even more ants, they were joined by a huge cockroach - great! At this point we called the holiday representative to arrange a meeting to change hotels. The room was barely big enough for us nevermind the additional occupants, I could hardly sleep.
Breakfast was a help yourself affair and again the attitude of the staff was odd. My husband asked for a coffee, he was told 'make it yourself' which he did, he asked for toast and again was told 'make it yourself' it was the way it was said and not having had breakfast there before a little help would have been appreciated.
Our Virgin holiday representative managed to organise another hotel for us, unfortunately we were expected to pay and additional £6800 for the other hotel as 20 Deg refused to refund the cost, even though the room was not fit for purpose and they had no other room we could be moved to. What left me even more flabbergasted was the managers comment when we explained our concerns, she said 'I think it is best you leave'
So we did!
