This was an experience and a half. A business trip to a holiday paradise, so I didn't see much of Mauritius but a lot of the hotel (and the airport).

The hotel was stunning. Easily as many staff as guests. Accomodation was in the form of chalets with balcony, offering a view of the Indian Ocean framed by palm trees and edged with a white crushed coral beach.

Meals could best be described as lavish. Every conceivable dish served by a dozen chefs.

Certaily not cheap but the luxury was highly visible.

Absolutely amazing.

We stayed at the Shandrani resort between the 9th to the 21st of june for our honeymoon and it was excellent , the superior rooms are very nice and all the staff were very friendly and very helpful . There are 3 a la carte restaurants and you need to book them up quickly as their all serve great food for seafood to pasta and get full very quickly .
The weather was pretty good but as june is there winter it was around 25 to 28 degrees which was lovely but it rainned for about an hour everyday bar two , Also it was very windy for june .
The resort has lots to do from water sking to playing golf which was great fun . Would also recommend going to safari adventure were you can walk with lions which was an incrediable day out .
The free spa treament we had was 2 x 45mins full body massages which was heaven , there are also 3 beachs to choose from but the one nearess to the hotel is where all the locals sell boat trips and jewellery which can get on your nevres a bit , But the best guy if you want to buy some jewellery is William . To sum up we had a fantactic honeymoon in a great hotel which is in a lovely bay near to the airport and yes you do hear them during the day but it was not off putting to us at all .

  • Liked — The location and food
  • Disliked — Boat seller on the beach

We have just returned from a week-long stay at Shandrani and can only say that it was the holiday of a lifetime.

The all-inclusive package means that you never have to worry about taking a wallet or forex with you, no bills to sign, prices to convert or decisions to make - if you want it, you have it.
And despite this meaning free unlimited booze, we saw only one young couple really hitting the bottle and setting out to get drunk - most of the time everyone was just happily mellow and there was no loud partying to disrupt your holiday. Good live entertainment at the bars and a nice selection of cocktails.
You pay for booze after 11pm - but we never stayed up that late as we were always exhausted from the day's activities and the good food.

Ah yes the food...
It was unbelievably good, especially in the two reservation-only venues, Porto Vecchio and Le Boucanier - which would rival top gourmet restaurants anywhere in the world for presentation and flavour.
Even the buffet was anything but run-of-the- mill, with a wonderful array of seafood, curries, traditional Creole dishes and absolutely divine salads and fresh fruit. The lunch venue Sirius offered light but tasty options for lunch.

Bar service was always prompt and efficient - we never waited more than 5 minutes for drinks and were served by waiters whose charm and flair made the wait a non-event.

The service throughout the hotel was excellent - polite, friendly people for whom nothing was too much trouble, and who anticipated our every need.

We did two snorkelling trips which offered a wonderful array of tropical fish and lovely coral formations. Also enjoyed the free golf, tennis, windsurfing, etc etc.

The rooms were extremely comfortable with huge comfy beds, ample cupboard space, large bathrooms and a well-stocked minibar.

The grounds are magnificent, with lush tropical trees and colourful flowers.

Included in the package is a free massage at the totally serene spa - so good that we went back and booked another one at the end of our holiday, sending us home well rested and totally relaxed.

I know people have complained about the planes, but honestly, we didn't find it to be a big issue - yes you are aware of them, but you hardly notice it because you are so busy enjoying yourself. And the bonus is that you have a mere 10 minute transfer from the airport, instead of having to drive an hour to the overcrowded, overcommercialised north coast.

We fell in love with Mauritius and its beautiful scenery and people - and will certainly be back again, staying at the Shandrani. There was nothing we could have asked for that it did not offer.

  • Liked — Beautiful location, amazing food, comfortable rooms, friendly staff
  • Disliked — Had to pay quite a bit for tennis balls!

I was at the Shandrani for 10 days from the beginning of June and enjoyed every single second. Everybody comments on the superb food, but I must add that all the staff members are so helpful and friendly - they make the hotel the paradise that it is. No request is too much trouble. If there is a specific beverage you prefer in the mini bar, the person who stocks it is only too eager to stock the mini bar with the beverage of your choice.
Have a look at the photo below that shows the view of the hotel & Blue Bay after the aeroplane has taken off - the planes do not disturb the hotel guests in the least, as you can see the plane is quite high up by the time it flies over the bay.

This was my second visit to the Shandrani and I have already booked to go back again in September.

Once again, it is a stunning location, very spacious hotel and it never feels crowded. There are so many walks, beaches and lounges that I often thought I was the only guest at the hotel - even during the European summer season!

We went to the shandrani for our honeymoon.
I had never been to an all inclusive resort before so was not sure what to expect. When we got there the reception area is stunning and we were greeted by a cocktail!

Our first bug bear occurreed here.

We were told champagne was only served after 6pm! and that 2 of the resturants were only open for dinner and one only open for lunch and we needed to reserve tables, Hardly all inclusive I hear you cry.
BUT
that the main buffet place was open all the time no need to book. GUtted as we were however this worked out perfectly.
Because the Buffet resturant is so fantastic you dont feel like your missing out on the a la carte resturants. You could dine on fish starters, sirloin steaks, pork on a spit, lamb curry, lamb kebabs, grilled fish, tandori chicken. It was fantastic. For breakfast also you have freshly made omlettes cooked to order and you can even have chicken curry for breakfast (they know the english hangover well!)

We ordered champagne when ever we wanted and were never charged.
The other resturants were fantastic better than michelain star places I have been to in the UK and the presentation is stunning.I recommend you book them all in advance and then there is no problem at all

Few minor problems
1) Drinks free only until 11.30 pm
BUT
the days are short so you will find you go to bed early and get up early to make the most of the day and it saves your liver from certain death
2) Free golf !! Ok the golf course is free but the balls etc is not. If you want to play take your balls and trainers
3) people go on about the planes.
BUT
the transfer is 10 mins which is wonderful and the planes dont go late and dont go early and to be honest they are quite interesting to watch.
4) ''Business men on the beach'' John Wayne, Omar Sharife , JAck Sparrow and Del boy to name a few.
Barter barter. It tooks us an hour and half for the jewllery to be in ''our price range''.
You can do speed boat trips with these guys which I have been told by friends are amazing. We went with the hotel on big catamaran but it depends what you prefer. Our friends paid 8000 rupees(for 2 of them) to visit
il de cerf, BBQ ,Drink, Waterfall etc all included. You can barter and if there are more of you the price is less.
THe catamaran has toilets (my preference!) place to sun bath but is alot slower and less personal (although the crew were fab).

All in all the shandrani is a fantastic hotel with nice touches, dressing down your bed at night, fresh towels morning and night and the food the food the food is all i can say.

The staff couldnt be more helpful, sometimes 6 would ask if you needed a drink but at busy times (only once I stress) it took 30 mins for a drink.
Entertainment is sophisticated bands/ church singers etc no mad parties.
Security walking around day and night so felt very safe and EVERYONE say hello, bonjour etc (def not in england )
An absoulutly perfect honeymoon for us anyway.
