“Very wonderful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 18, 2010

This hotel is lovely and very nice with two large pools. There are three restaurants including a gastro, a spa, beach and very sumptuous rooms.
The comfort and service are significant. We strongly recommend this hotel for relaxation. It's perfectly quiet with a lively atmosphere in the evening after dinner.

My partner and I met our South African friends at the resort. We took the full board option. We moved two days later to the Intercontinental Resort along with about another half dozen families. Apartments were poorly maintained - no hot water, no telephone, no daily update to the minibar - even though this was included in the full board option. The food was indifferent; similar food each day without any sophistication. Service was appalling - tables were not cleared, crockery was left beside the pool, we could not get drinks. All drinks to the pools - when we did get them - were in glass. We saw one glass being broken and shards left beside the pool. The staff even allowed guests to sit in the pool with glass bottles and glasses. Health and Safety would have a field day here. The Kids Club for our friends' kids hardly existed - no childrens' menus - and there were certainly no activities from 9am to 9pm as promised. And to top it all, our friends had their money stolen out of their room safe. The police turned up but were indifferent. I understand that theft is a regular occurence from Mauritian hotels.
Even when we moved to the Intercontintental Resort, service continued to be poor. It was as if hotels in Mauritius and their staff really could not be bothered any more to provide a quality service to customers. I would not travel 12 hours to Mauritius when there are so many wonderful locations elsewhere with really good hotels.

I stayed here for one day and it was a hell.
Room was quite big but very old and dirty with many mosquito and ants inside the room.
Food was terrible.I did not want to eat at all and some of my collegues were not feeling good after.Even I vomited as well.
Servece very bad.I asked for tea during dinner and waited for 30 minutes and finally they did not bring.
My collegue told me that some of her juice in her minibar were already opened!!
Very very bad hotel!!!

The service is slow....the staff have no idea what hospitality is about, the dining and bar area is really dirty, be it the floor, the chairs you sit on it sooo dirty, the corners are filled with grim and upholstery looks as though it's never been cleaned, the breakfast area is full of birds crapping everywhere, pool is dirty, check-in is so slow! The meeting rooms are very smelly! The AC stops in the middle of the night!

Basically I Stayed one night, and wanted to disenfect myself good and proper! This should not be a 4 star hotel!

I went for a holiday to Mauritius during mid-Nov. La plantation was recommended by the travel agent. I was a bit sceptical at first after reading the many negative reviews, but with the assurance of my travel agent, I decided to go ahead and stay at La Plantation. We were greeted by freindly helpful staff at reception who further assisted us whenever there was a need. The rooms were an unexpected surprise. Although quite a distance away from the main area it was well worth the walk. The room was spacious, stunningly beautiful and squeaky clean. The rooms and bathroom were cleaned and made up daily. We received fabulous service from both the bar and the resturants. The main resturant (which serves a buffet) even did a special meal for us as we didn't want seafood on the seafood themed night. The pool area is massive and its pure relaxation. The spa was a out of the world experience (although a little expensive). Here as well the staff were freindly, informative and helpful. I agree with the previous review where the person said that she felt as if she was in a different hotel than that of the reviews. I felt the same way. It compares favourably with all other 4 star hotels I have stayed in, on previous holidays in various different countries. All in all it was a lovely, relaxing holiday in a beautiful resort.

Our family (parents, 2 adult offspring plus partners) spent 10 days at la Plantation in early December. We were concerned about the bad reviews we'd read on this site and are very pleased that we didn't let the negative reports affect our decision to take advantage of the excellent special offers at this hotel. There were many times when we wondered if we were staying at the same hotel described in the reviews. We loved it! It is very beautiful and the property is huge and well laid out. Rooms are very big, comfortable and very clean (an upgrade to a sea view room is worth it). The facilities are excellent, most of the staff are friendly and try very hard to accommodate any requests. The bar service was slow when the hotel started to fill up, but it really is no hardship to get up from your chair (or lounger on the beach) and get your drinks from the bar yourself.

The food was good - the buffet was so varied that there was always something to suit everyone. The entertainment crew was enthusiastic and we enjoyed volleyball, soccer and aquagym during the day and dancing at night - could have done without some of the "shows" but that is just a personal view. There is lots going on and enough to keep every age group entertained. Super snorkelling just outside the bay too!

Make sure you book on an all-inclusive basis - the drinks are VERY expensive!

We recomment this hotel without hesitation and hope to be back.

HONEY MOON from HELL. Worst hotel I've EVER stayed in!! Please avoid because if you complain the under-hand manager will threaten to kick you out or lie & make up stuff about you. We are currently on our 2nd letter to VIRGIN, who dismissed our 1st as the manager made up lies about us breaking sun bed & chucking water over the pool area ( as we complained about these factors as my husband slipped & fall & broke a flimsy table, which we were charged £250 for, originally £600!!! or he said he would chuck us out). The rooms are also dirty & never cleaned, & the shower was mouldy & spelt of damp, we complained about this & sent photos, the manager said we took the pics in an out of order room (which we had no access to....so thats how bad the room must of been to be compared to that). We sent a pic of the broken sun bed too in which he said he had witness that we broke it, absolute slander as past reviews already say the sunbeds were broken 2 years ago!!! As well as several reviews say they have complained to VIRGIN HOLIDAYS, yet nothing has been done. The pool was always very dirty with bits in it, & never cleaned. Dont even go there with the FOOD!!! especially if you want to stay alive or not spend the rest of your holiday on the toilet!!!! The same stuff is brought out night after night & never very warm & i became very ill. We were charged for stuff several times which was on the all inc menu & had to argue the point. The staff were rude & the management are just evil & very un helpfull. Only one 1 of the 4 bars was open....as the hotel was less than half full (shows how bad it is) . We are distraught by this situation & taking it to "holidays from hell" & have now high lighted the website to VIRGIN in our 2nd letter. As only half the people who go will recommend this place!! & what happened to the customer always being right VIRGIN ????? As we are not the only complaint!!! You have been warned, & anyone whos wrote a good review....has obviously NEVER stayed in a REAL 4* HOTEL, I've stayed in better 3* in the Med for half the price.
