“Excellent hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2013

We have just returned from 4 nights at the Maritim which was the end of our honeymoon. Overall the hotel and facilities were excellent, the room in particular was fantastic (we were upgraded to a Privilege room).

We used the hotel stables twice and being able to ride a swimming horse in the sea was a fabulous, once in a lifetime experience. The horses are all ex racehorses and not the usual nags found in a riding stables in the UK!

The Maree restaurant was the 1 we used the most mainly because it did not have the number of children that there were in the main one. In fact our only gripe was the number of children there and because of this we would not recommend this hotel for honeymooners (other couples we spoke to agreed with this view). Maybe outside school holidays the situation is different but we can only comment on what it was like when we were there.

Also at this time of year the pool was very cold and would benefit from being heated. Hardly anybody was in the pool because of this.

The activities available at this hotel are extensive, particularly the watersports.

We ate at Le Chateau Mon Desir once which was a honeymoon gift from the hotel. However drinks were chargeable and the cheapest bottle of wine was £48, be warned!

Overall we would recommend this hotel for families wishing to have a more upmarket type of holiday.

There are so many good things i can say about the Maritim, the food, activities, spa, rooms, cleanliness, seaviews, kidsclub and particularly all the staff are excellent. But unfortunately for us it was let down by what is no doubt the worst beach in Mauritius (ask any Taxi driver and they will tell you!) It is full of coral and the sea is rocky and murky. If you are used to going to the caribbean with its powder sand like us, you will be disappointed. So we ended up going to the pool, but the water was freezing! Trou aux Biches has the best beach by a mile. But dont get me wrong, we had a lovely time there. There is so much to do, and if you are on the all inclusive like we were, it really is fantastic value for money. My wife loved the waterskiing, and our daughter (and us!) loved the kids club. The dolphin trip is extra but is an absolute must. Although the weather wasnt great that day, we also spotted 2 humpback whales on the way there. Its once in a lifetime experience. We paid around £115 with the rep for 3 of us on an afternoon return trip. The Maritim is not a real 5 star, but a very good 4 star but overall, if you are looking for a good family trip then I would definitely recommend the Maritim. But would i personally go back, with that beach, probably not.

Room Tip: Dont bother paying extra for the junior suites, they maybe larger, but the decor is very dated. We s...

Dear Valued Guest,

Greetings from MARITIM Hotel Mauritius!

I would like to thank you for taking the time to review the Maritim Estate and sharing your views with other travellers on Trip Advisor.

We are glad to read that you have enjoyed your stay including the food, our All inclusive formula, the activities, the spa, your room, cleanliness, sea views, kids club and our staff.

We regret to read that you did not find the beach up to your expectations. Our natural beach of 800m long is generally praised by our guest and is located on the Turtle Bay, the first protected marine park of Mauritius. This one is recognised as one of the best spot for snorkelling on the island and amongst the best beach of the island.

Thank you once again for your review and all of us hope to see you back for a yet another holiday with us in the near future.

Went for honeymoon!!! If you want relaxation, good food and good times then go!!! Only disappointing thing was night life could of been better as entertainment was ok but some nights there was none. Lots to do during the day and food and drink is good to have when you want and good service when needed!!

My partner and myself along with two good friends stayed here from the 2nd to 16th of July. Well, what can I say except it was absolute PARADISE.
We were greeted at reception with a cool towel and a cold fruit cocktail then taken through all the hotel facilities. We had upgraded to a Prestige room and so glad we did, it was gorgeous. Our room wasn't ready when we arrived but we were given use of all the hotel facilities including a lovely lunch.
THE STAFF...
I have to give a big mention to a few of the staff that looked after us, so here goes.......
La Maree.... A big thank you to Satyam, Ishwaree, Vidya, the lovely smiley Sweety and Nagadoo. I also have to say thank you for lending my partner Martin a mobile phone when I was rushed to hospital so he could keep in contact with the hospital.

BEACH........ A hi to Dave, you only had to been on your lounger for two minutes and he was there with a big smile and a cold water. He also came along and cleaned your sunglasses for you. A lovely man.

MAIN RESTAURANT ...... The food was great, drinks even better and the staff so attentive and friendly.
Hi to Napur, Ashwin, Devon, Kavita, Aurelie and Ajay. You were great to talk to and share a laugh or two with...

CUTOMER SERVICE. Vakish, where were you at 2.15 when we left for the airport... Wanted to say a big goodbye and thank you to you for looking after us and a big thanks to Kavita again too.

Last but not least thanks to Slesh for looking after us in the Deck Bar.

The holiday was unforgettable and we will be back. We have told friends about it and they have already booked for May next year.
The only downside was my two days in hospital with gastroenteritis which we think I picked up on the plane but can't fault the treatment or Dr Mike who looked after me.

A lovely hotel and fantastic staff, thanks again for a wonderful holiday and will see you again soon.

We cannot fault the Maritim hotel. All the staff are so friendly and wherever we've eaten in the various restaurants on offer, the food is excellent. The water sports are included, we have all learnt to waterski. The weather has been reasonably warm, averaging 22 degrees with the odd rain shower only on 3 days out of the last 10 and haven't lasted long. Would love to come again

Well, here we are enjoying a second holiday at the Maritim in Mauritius. Now, I am one of those people that doesn't particularly like staying at the same hotel twice, but I am so pleased I made an exception. I found every detail of this hotel exquisite the last time we came in 2012, and this year, it can only be described as simply stunning. We have been treated with almost reverence from the moment we arrived, given the same room we had before that we cannot fault. The service, cleanliness, dining, water sports and relaxation facilities are all perfect, and set amongst lush well-kept tropical gardens tended by smiling staff. The weather at this time of the year has been great, a little cooler than the last time we came, but in the high 20s. The Maritim also benefits from being in the northwest of the island which is the warmest and driest part, with lovely coral reefs keeping the waves back, and providing fun exploring opportunities. We just had brunch at the chateau which I will review separately, but was wonderful too. 10 out of 10 for the Maritim, the very best hotel on the island. A tip - we booked with Airworld Tours again, who gave an excellent service.

Room Tip: They are all great. Don't worry about which room you might get.

We holidayed here in June 13. For 2 weeks the experience was almost perfect. The hotel staff was friendly and always willing to help. We have a few trips around the island but the real highlight of the holiday was a trip to the races held every Saturday. Well worth the money even if you’re not an avid racing fan. We had a small incident with the food one night when I found some shot in some of the wild boar on the pig roast night. For me though this was not a big issue as this proved that the meat was wild and not farmed. The staff was very apologetic about this and compensated us by way of some free drinks. (Not that much of a big thing as were we all inclusive anyway!)
Overall a really good stay, however as the saying goes “you’re only as good as your last mistake” and this fell true on our last night there. We decided to eat at the beach restaurant. Firstly we had to ask for the waiter to be changed as the waiter serving us to start with thought it was too much trouble to take our order and would rather be chatting to his friends. He was rude and looked at us as if we were taking up his time. Then when our food came it was all mixed up on the wrong plates. My partner had asked for her steak well done, however it looked like it had been kept warm for hours. It was hard, dry and not very nice, my steak was supposed to be medium but when this came it was very blue. In fact it was still raw. Not good at all, when you pay for 5* you expect it. Overall a very disappointing end to what was a fantastic holiday.
