“Probably our best holiday ever”

My wife and I stayed 10 nights in this first class hotel and we wish it had been longer, but we will stay at the Maritim again. We were pampered as soon as we arrived and the staff were wonderful, as was the food, the super room (room 341), the amenities and of course the fabulous beach. Everything was perfect for us and it is a must to go 'all incusive'.

This is about the 10th. time that we have been to Maritim Hotel and always for short breaks After our last stay, the least we could do was to write a review to say how happy we were with the staff, equestrian centre/mini farm, restaurant, and spa .

After check in , we got our rooms immediately although we had arrived in advance. The reception staff were very friendly and did not hesitate to go out of their way to change our room for a better one. We were sent gifts -sparkling wine, plate of fruits, straw bag , and for my daughter she received a hat, juice and even a biscuit in the shape of a smiley . The room was spotless clean as was the hotel in general. A special mention to the reception staff -Laura, Brian , Cherina who have made those 3 days memorable .

I noted that the darts and "petangue" games had shifted closer to the La Maree Restaurant and that it was no longer necessay to walk to the sports kiosk to borrow the equipment. Having breakfast at La Maree was a plus as it is such a quiet place where you can just sit and watch the sea in the morning.It came as a good surprise that the service at La maree was faster than previously although when we are on holidays, time is not an issue. Dinner at Belle Vue was top with a very wide variety of food to satisfy the most difficult eater.

The highlight of my daughter's visit was of course the poney ride with Jean Francois and visit to the mini far. In August , we had our first ride with Jean Francois . It was raining but Jean Francois succeeded in making us overcome our fear of horses ,my apprehension of falling and we finally enjoyed the 1 hour ride. This time again, we were lucky to have him and thank him for his patience and professionalism. His assistant showed us around the mini farm and giant tortoises ,which are on the same premises as the stables , and we learnt things that we did not know about these gentle giants.

The only minus was our dinner on the first night at the new restaurant , Le Banyan . The food was not up to our expectations perhaps because my family is used to eating in Chinese restaurants and we had expected it to be of similar standard as at Chateau Mon Desir .

To finish, we will be back in January before school resumes as Maritim Hotel has become our favourite place .

We stayed for our fab honeymoon in November and were both blown away by the Maritim. The staff couldn't do enough for you and were all so friendly and sincere when having a chat or even just saying a good morning.
We had room 467 which overlooked the water sports bay, lovely view of the sea and a landscaped garden area. Was a two minute walk across the garden to the infinity pool which was the quieter pool. Sat by the pool a few days although we preferred to be by the sea on the beach near La Maree.
I had emailed about upgrading before we left but unfortunately they were fully booked......however on the 5th day the manager asked to see us. He was able to upgrade us to the honeymoon suite for our last four days!!!! It was AMAZING!!! We had a large room with drapes over the bed, a big bathroom then we walked out onto the balcony. We discovered our own private sun terrace, outside shower and a massive jacuzzi!! We were blown away by it and we're so pleased they had kept my initial enquiry about upgrading in mind.
We loved the buffet and ate there seven nights out of ten. The food was varied and fresh and always so scrummy!! Loads of choice, we aren't fussy eaters but I think everyone would enjoy something and if not then quite clearly they should stick to English shores!!! La Maree beach restaurant was idyllic to eat at. The view during the day wonderful and at night very romantic with live singers serenading each table. We ate here several lunches off the all inclusive choices and then paid extra for the steak night (which was the BEST steak I have ever eaten!!!) and lobster night....we were slightly disappointed with the lobster as it was tiny and not as flavoursome as we have eaten before but still a lovely evening.
My husband went snorkelling and saw lots of tropical fish, crabs and urchins etc and not far off the shore, my paddling often evolved a shoal of fish. I went horse riding and the lovely lad Ravi was very chatty and informative and made the lesson enjoyable. The horses are well looked after and we loved visiting the giant tortoises too , just be sure to take a couple of apples from reception. They loved them!!!!!
We did the Wild South West excursion through connections and disagree with the previous review about it being a rip off! We had a fab day out with the tour guide Elodie (she should be a stand up comedienne!) Very informative throughout the whole day, visited wonderful places and the delicious three course lunch was included and a trip to the Rumerie with a free taste session.
It was a perfect, relaxing, chilled out honeymoon and we would go again in a second. We would recommend the hotel to everyone and have done since returning.

So overall the maritim is beautiful it is a great place and the food is sooo good! I went there for my honeymoon and had a wonderful time. I think the staff and service was excellent the bedroom was always done and whenever we requested anything it was done without any problems. Overall i would highly recommend staying at this restort - take the all inclusive because it is soo good! Dont worry about a thing and eat as much as you want, although be careful you can get fat very quickly as i discovered in the first few days and then cut down :)

So don't trust connections - they are such a ripoff. Connections are the people that tell you where you can go around the island etc... they tried to charge me 7000 for a full day for a cab! when i called up the cab service though the hotel when i was going to buddah bar one night i spoke to the cab driver who seemed cool and he said he would take me 6500 for 2 days full day! And definately do that go and see everything in the whole island literally all the stops.. you can do it over 2 days the 7 earths, the crocadile park the volcano the temples etc..

Also i made a mistake i booked the lion walk through connections and when i got to the place myself i found that they ripped me off by 2000! The lion walk they charged 3000 per person which is right but the quad is only 1650 approx but they charged me 3000 again per person!

Dont trust this woman called 'Nisha' she comes in the hotel regularly with the wonky eye. She will rip you off! You are better off calling the place up and booking yourself or if your cab driver is cool on the first day he takes you out then tell him to book it for you be way cheaper.

Cabs are a right rip off i tell you so be prepared to take alot of money for them.. local they was saying 1600 which is like 30 quid! So instead i booked for the whole day and just did everything for approx 3000 a day which worked out better for me.

Mauritius is pretty expensive place so take around 800-1000 with you and then you can do everything you need comfortably and keep all the photos and things from the activities!

Beautiful place to get married and our day was made very special, the staff were very sinsear, happy, helpful and caring.
Thank you Vinesh for your special cocktail and Brinder for the coins to put under the tortoise and Madhavi for arranging our beautiful wedding and making my surprise for Garry come true.
We shall visit again on an anniversary but in the meantime it will be a different city every year to celebrate our bonfire night wedding day. X x

We stayed at the Maratim Hotel in Mauritius to celebrate our 30th Wedding Anniversary. We read all the reviews on the hotel prior to booking and like the majority of people were not disappointed. The stay should have been for 12 nights but were delayed over 30 hours by Air Mauritius in getting out, due to a technical fault on the aircraft. (Mistake 1 should have booked another airline!!) On arrival at the hotel, we were met by reception staff and made to feel welcome. They had automatically upgraded our room, (as we had notified them of our anniversary when booking.) The booking in process was very friendly and efficient, with welcome fruit juice cocktails and we were shown to our room (430). In the room they had thought of everything, night light in the bathroom, mosquito repellent dispensers were put on every night, walk in closet, bath and double shower with built in extendable drying line. All soaps and shampoos, bath salts and conditioners were provided. (No need to have brought them with us). The bed was 6ft wide, (great if you get sunburnt!!) and the towels were in the shape of a flower with rose petals in a big 30. They had separate reading lights either side of the bed as well as the normal bedside lamp and this is great if one of you likes to read at night, It means you can do it without disturbing the other. The mini bar fridge was well stocked for the “all inclusive” guests and there was a price list what was included and what was at an additional cost. All rooms appear to have a sea view and their own balconies to watch the sun sets before dinner. Kettles with tea & coffee making facilities were provided with fresh milk in the fridge.
The staff were all friendly and could not do enough for you, and were always asking if everything was ok and to your liking. Managers were always on hand to resolve any issues you may have. We always had a good service, whether it be in the restaurant, bars or pool service. They do have a “No tipping” policy with boxes in the reception lobby to put tips in to be shared amongst all the staff.

Pools: 2 x swimming pools, either side of the Quarter deck bar, the infinity pool was deeper, and quieter, as the children tended to be in the other pool which was much more shallow. Both pools can be walked into without steps. The sun beds were plentiful either by the pools or the beach and were the most comfortable I have ever used. There is a bar service around the pool side, but the only alcohol served is beer. If you want a cocktail or something else put a shirt on and sit in the quarter deck bar. The sea is calm and there are coral reefs within 10m from the beach, swimming shoes are an advantage. Bring your own goggles and snorkels as the tropical fish are plentiful and should not be missed. There is a dive centre for the more adventurous and those that wish to do their diving courses (extra cost). There is a glass bottom boat (free) that goes out daily, and another that goes out twice a day to take people snorkelling on the main reef. (The water is colder there). Whilst we were there, the dolphins were nearby which others went out to see. Sailing, water skiing, pedalos and canoeing are all included at no extra cost. Deep sea fishing and parasailing are at additional costs. A big thank you to the boat team staff who were humorous and patient particularly with those learning to water ski!
Some other activities included a golf course, crazy golf, archery, cycling and horse riding (at an extra cost) The hotel also has its own giant tortoises which you can feed.

Driving: They drive on the same side as the UK, and roads work on a grid system, you can hire cars from your travel rep, the hotel (Sixt) and they are not badly priced, but check the insurance at CDW is not included and there is still a £500 excess for any wheel damage, so stick to the main roads! The cars are all new. Don’t forget you need your licence! The fuel cost is approx. £1 per litre, and there are plenty of garages and on a small island you wont use too much ! Mopeds can be hired at the hotel.

The hotel is approximately 20 minutes from Port Louis (depending on traffic) there is a taxi shuttle service from the hotel which charges £18 per couple for a 3 hr trip in and out of Port Louis, the car normally takes two couples and will wait for your return normally by the post office. (Taxi’s are more expensive) There is also a car park there which is very reasonable less than £1 for 2 hours. There is plenty to see on the island depending how far you want to explore.

Helicopter flights; The hotel has its own heli-pad in its grounds and Air Mauritius provide helicopter flights around the island which cost us £350 per couple for a half hour flight. The pilot was British and made a great tour guide. This can be ordered through the reception, and they will provide a golf buggy to run you up to the pad. Well worth the money for a great experience, and the views are awesome!! They also do airport transfers if booked in advance.

Restaurants; The main restaurant is an open sided cafeteria style self service set up. The staff are efficient and friendly. The wine list is good mainly South African and Australian. The chefs are all very knowledgeable on providing food advice for people with food allergies such as coeliac’s and will provide gluten free breads etc. if asked and also tell you the foods to stay away from that contain gluten. My wife was told that if she fancied some pasta for lunch or dinner to ask for it in advance and they would prepare it for her as they have gluten free pasta available. The food was always good with a wide variety to choose from, and themed nights, such as sea food, Mauritian, around the world dishes, curries etc.
La Maree restaurant is supposed to be a fine dining sea food restaurant on the beach, with waiter service, you will need to book it in advance, but do note that it is not just sea food and they do have steak nights, and fish & Chip evenings, so do check when you book so as not to be disappointed. There is an additional charge, and check the wine list for what is included and what you have to pay extra for. The staff are very good at explaining this to you.
There is a new Oriental fine dining restaurant next to the cafeteria., but we did not use this so cannot comment.
Mon Desir – Fine dining restaurant is in the old chateau, it serves nouveau cuisine style food with waiter service, they have different menus (a la carte) for different occasions at an additional cost when booking. The management for the hotel gave us a free candlelit dinner for our wedding anniversary, all we had to do was pay for the drinks …. £40 for a bottle of Jacobs Creek and extra for the coffees. The evening itself was unforgettable and they even provided us with a small cake. The hit for the wine was a small price to pay for location food quality and service!

Quarterdeck bar - The cocktails are plentiful and location spectacular for evening sunsets. Just check the drinks menu as there are additional costs even on the “all inclusive” deal. Afternoon tea coffee, cakes etc are served here should you wish to avail yourselves of them.
La-Maree also has a bar and one can sit on the beach next to the bonfire and have a nightcap.
Evening entertainment was provided on some nights, although we personally did not experience it as we were too exhausted and the wine was plentiful!

The Spa – is in the grounds and mistake 2 was we didn’t go there the first day on arrival, as we were given a free half hour massage by the hotel, which we kept for the last day before flying back. The staff were totally professional and we regretted not having made good use of their services a lot sooner, it would have removed all the travel stress from the start and put us in a relaxing mood.

Weddings – The hotel provides a wedding service on the beach in a pagoda on a daily basis in what is perhaps one of the most idyllic locations, so go for it if you are considering it!
Anniversaries: If the hotel knows it is your anniversary, they pull out all the stops to ensure you have one of the best days of your life, from champagne breakfasts, through to candle lit dinners.

Security is good and it is an enclosed complex, one trader did come onto the beach but does not hassle the guests with their wares.

Internet access wi-fi is freely available throughout the hotel and also their business centre has computers which can be used at a cost of approx. £2.50 per hour. Internet Log On pass can be obtained from the reception.

Thank you. We would like to thank the management at the Martim Hotel for what has been a truly exceptional and memorable wedding anniversary, which was made all the more special during our stay, in particular Kavita the Customer Communications Manager who organised everything. Your attention to detail should be commended. We also would like to thank the Reception staff, who are a great team in particular Avinash who took us to the helipad. Also Kishan and Richa who picked us up from the heli- pad and turned it into an entertaining imaginary safari trip!!

Final Warning: We flew Air France on the way back, only to find they had not seated us together, this caused some stress, but was eventually resolved. If you get the chance, book your seats in advance! Finally for UK passengers if you are travelling via Paris, you cannot by any alcohol /perfume in the Duty Free as when you arrive at Paris you have to go through the search regime and they will confiscate any liquids. Buy your Rum / perfume in the country or on the way out and pack it in your suitcase for the return trip.

Room Tip: All rooms have a sea view, and appear to be well appointed.

We stayed here for 10 days in oct absolutely fab. Food was wonderful so much to choose from every day , the staff from the reception to bar staff, cleaning staff , entertainment staff especially gale (not spelt right ) he was very good too many to mention sweety and staff on the beach. The beach was wonderful, grounds, flowers in reception all fab the music played in all areas was really good ,6 of us went in our group and we all said this was best holiday we had for a long time .
You should try the water sports went on the glass bottom boat snorkelling I was not very confident in such deep water but the guys on the boat kept an eye on me all the time which made me feel better so went 3 times as I knew I would be safe so give it a go.
