“Great Hotel in a Great Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2012

From the moment we entered through the double gates, drove down the long drive and was greeted as soon as we stepped out of the mini bus we new that this place was special.

We arrived about 1:30pm our room was not quite ready but that did not matter one jot, we were given an ice tea and made to feel special. Our room 361 was really nice with a lovely view from the balcony.

The meals in the bell view where we had most of our meals were really good with plenty of choice, they had theme nights, thought i might struggle on the sea food nights as i am not a fish loves, however, the had alternatives in the form of lamb or chicken, we ate between 7:30 - 8pm and never had a problem being shown a table. Towards the back of the bell view restaurant was a new an excellent new restaurant called the Banyan ( Asian Fusion), 3 of us all adults had appetisers, starters and a main meal, with a bottle of wine and it costs with the all inclusive discount an extra 900Ru in total, which works out at £6 per person we went there twice.

We had breakfast and booked in on the beef night at the beach side restaurant called La Maree, thought the breakfast was overpriced as it was nothing special to be honest, however, the beef night was something else, we were shown the quality of the beef before it was cooked. We had starters,I had a massive T bone steak, my partner and her father both had fillet steaks which were all top quality and again with our all inclusive discount cost us an extra 900Ru. This was all topped off by a really nice trio coming round the tables singing requests.

We went to the Mon Desire towards the end of our two week stay as a treat, it was expensive but the food was really good, however, not sure it was worth the money though.

The poolside and the beach were really good and relaxing an excellent place to get in the all important sunbathing and no shortage of beds, we like to snorkel but this was only average, we went on the snorkelling trip but preferred it by the beach and most of the coral is unfortunately dead.

the staff were very attentive, pleasant and smiling especially Samy and sweetie (in the various bars) and cheya (waitress). We were asked about three quarters through our holiday how we were enjoying our stay all positive apart from one little thing, my partners dad wanted a nice blue cheese and biscuits to have after our evening meal to have with a glass of port, she took it on board and we thought no more of it until we meant for our evening meal to find a big slab of stilton with biscuits ( happy days).

Just one negative, towards the end of our second week they started to take drinks off the all inclusive that was previously included, now this never really effected us, however, it seems as though as the season goes on you will pay more for your holiday and the all inclusive package will not be quit as good and seems to me to be a little petty.

Having said the above the all inclusive package was well worth it, we found it difficult to spend money, we ate in every restaurant more than once and went deep sea fishing and still came back with all our travellers checks

If you go to the Maritim, you will not be disappointed and we would definitely be going back.

Lets start with the down side, like all the All inclusive deluxe hotels it sits alone so no place to go,unless you hire a car or get a Taxi.
That said, it's all good.
The grounds are large & well kept with it's own ruins of "Balaclava" with a waterfall.
The hotel is on two levels which might cause a few problems for those with mobility problems, but alternative ramped routes are available to most of the hotel, but as it's built into the hill side I'd be wary if I was infirm.
The food from all the restaurants, either in the hotel or on the beach was first class and varied.
The other great advantage of this hotel was the dive center, British owned but run by some really nice local guys.
The guys at the dive center went out of their way to accommodate everyone, be they novice or like us experienced.
We even managed a night dive on the wreck of the Stella Maru.
Not forgetting that every day we had the company of Dolphins out to the dive sites & the high light............ 2 Whales which obliged with the classic tail fluke wave!!!
For those who like to chill in good surroundings, I'd say give it a try.

We spent a wonderful 2 weeks at the Maritim Hotel and can honestly say it was really lovely. We would definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys relaxing by the pool/beach, eating and drinking. Our room was lovely and in a perfect location, so close to the beach. All the staff were so friendly and made us feel so welcome. Food was to a good standard and drinks were always available, even whilst sunbathing on the beach. All in all an amazing honeymoon in a fantastic hotel.

We stayed at this hotel for 12 nights and in general we were very satisfied with our holiday.

There are some small negative thing (as everywhere).

Check in was quick and pleasant. The room was not ready at 14.00 so we could have a lunch until 15.00 when the room was ready.

We had the room nr. 214 – prestige room. We actually had our doubts if it was a prestige room (it did not look like on the picture on the web side of the hotel). When we asked they told us that there were 2 types of prestige room. Anyway there are some better prestige rooms with beige sofa and new shower. We got old one. But it was ok. The room was large enough, sea view, balcony, good bed. But the shower was a big disaster. We could not believe the first day that this was normal – very low pressure and small amount of water coming (changing hot/cold all the time). We asked for help. They send someone to check it immediately but it did not help a lot. The next day the situation was the same – we asked for help again – they send someone again but they could not do anything. After that we gave up. There was a better shower on the beach than in the room :) Apart from that everything was fine in the room. Cleaning was good.

It was our first all-inclusive experience and we liked it. It was always possible to find something good to eat every day in spite of there was not always the food listed on the meny. We ate mainly at the BelleVue. Sometimes it was difficult to get a table there especially between 20.00 – 21.00. It could be some waiting time. Waiters are very busy at that time and waiting time for the drinks could be very long. Sometimes you get wrong drinks, or you get you main wine before aperitif. Sometimes you could get a table and they would say to you that you should go and take your food. After coming back with food you will find out that another waiter placed another people at your table and you will stand there waiting again for another table.

We booked La Maare once for a lobster dinner (paid extra) – it was very good. We had breakfast there twice as well and lunch sometimes. It was not possible to book another time for dinner as everything was already booked 7 days ahead. This is a bit strange because every time you could see 4-5 available tables there.

The best part was free activities on the beach – like waterskiing, pedal boat etc. The beach is nice and we used it every day. We did not use swimming pool but it looked full every day. Some days it was also some waiting time for beach towels (many people take 2-3 towels, reserving sun bed both on the beach and near the pool and those who really need towel after morning swim do not get it). So we learned to take a towel with us in the evening in order to be able to use it in the morning. We had a snorkelling trip once but we did not like it – there were dead corals and another boat (from another hotel) feeding fishes with bread – swimming among bread pieces - disgusting. Beach service was very good – staff is very polite and would do everything for you. Some people complain on a slow service – I agree, but it was possible to go to the bar and get your drinks immediately if you do not want to wait. So this was not a problem. We did not try a spa – I found it very expensive, but it was possible to get "last minute offer" during the breakfast 30 % discount on different treatments at the same day.

We liked the hotel and staff. We enjoyed our stay at the Maritim. In spite of some negative things we would still give this hotel exellent review.

Room Tip: Ask for the room with a new proper shower.

We returned from staying for 2 weeks at the Maritim Hotel last week. My husband and i were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary. It was a fabulous holiday, the most relaxing holiday I have had. When we arrived in our room there was a bottle of sparking wine and a fruit basket. Nice touch with the towels shaped in swans and rose petals on the bed. We made the most of the water sports. Went horse riding Rav was very helpful. We ate at all the restaurants all lovely only one complaint wine at the Chateau was very expensive. However the service was fantastic Kunai was lovely and treated us like royalty. I cannot fault the hotel I would certainly go again. Food good, lots of choice however on the 2nd week the choice at lunch time was not as much as the first week. Staff all very friendly and helpful. Definately a couples hotel. Definitely recommend the hotel.

Room Tip: we stayed in room 360 which had a view to the sea.

This was a fantastic hotel that was the location for our wedding back in August.

Not much more to add to all the other wonderful reviews. Service is fantastic, the place is spotlessly clean, the food was plentiful, varied and good quality.

Can highly recommend the Spa, which is a fantastic facility with first class treatments (altho maybe not for the faint hearted - ask me if you want to know why!!). We had a free treatment each as part of the package with Virgin but also spent a considerable wad having several hours worth of treatments the morning of our wedding, helping making it the perfect day.

There is nothing to see / nowhere to go within walking distance of the hotel and with it being 'international' it was sometimes easy to forget you were on a tropical island, which is my only criticism.

The resident musicians were excellent whether performing acoustically in the bar or as a group on the stage - which coincidentally happened to be on the night we got married, giving us a fantastic party!

Would love to go back sometime...

General impression about Mauritius: we returned to Mauritius after 18 years. This was our 4th stay on the island and probably the last one. Our impression is that the island (outside the hotel ressorts) has become even more dirty than it was before. "Welcome to paradise" (sign at the airport) is totally misleading. Mauritius has been a popular (expensive) tourist place for decades. We wonder where all that tourist money has gone to. Probably into the balance sheets of the hotels who are mostly part of a large international chain. This means, that the profits are being taken out of the country.

Hotel:
The large hotel ground is a noisy place. There are workers everywhere including beach using all sorts of machines. The beach is not very nice and does not offer sufficient room for the large number of visitors. For instance, the beach at La Pirogue is much nicer.

Restaurant:
Whilst some of the staff are very friendly, a good number of them are just the opposite. Ordering a coffee refill may be a time consuming exercise. The first staff takes the order who is then delegated on over a chain of staff until it finally reaches the "coffee boy" with a good chance the order gets lost. So you start again...
The bar close to the pool is a nice and relaxing place. However, you are being asked every 5 minutes or so whether you require another (or additional), by the way expensive, drink. It seems that the bar staff is under tremendeous pressure to sell as many drinks as possible in the shortest possible time. After a while you are being asked whether they should bring the bill (if you don't drink fast enough).
