Never before has a stay pleased me so much as to incite me to write a review, but as they say, there is a start to everything and Angsana Balaclava seems to be just the right trigger for it…
I stayed at Angsana Balaclava with my fiancé in February. As soon as we arrived at the resort, we were awed by the stunning reception area with its relaxing music, soothing lighting and scenic view of the pool, as well as impressed by the courtesy and professionalism of the staff who greeted us with cold face towels and deliciously refreshing drinks.
The check-in process proceeded smoothly after which we were guided to our room, a spa suite, which was simply B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L! Every aspect of the room from its size, layout, furnishing, lighting, and amenities, was carefully and tastefully designed with the ultimate comfort of the guest in mind. The result was a spacious, highly luxurious room with a romantic feel, hence perfect for couples. The room also comes with a balcony and private plunge pool, which proved to be the perfect way to relax and refresh after a long day in the outside heat and humidity (the Mauritian summer is no joke!). Our room was moreover located on the second floor, which gave us even more privacy in the pool.
Moving on from the room, the spa includes an impressive vitality pool that uses water pressure jets to massage all parts of the body. The pool can easily fit a dozen people and thus, enables one to enjoy ‘massages’ while socializing, a concept that I have not encountered elsewhere. A whole variety of massage therapies are also offered by appointment. As for the gym, it consists of a comprehensive set of equipment of top quality, which certainly incites one to work out.
The remaining facilities of the resort were in equally excellent condition and unsurprisingly given that the hotel was only a couple of months old. The main area consists of a seawater pool (a real stunner!), a 25m lap pool and a pool bar that allows guests to eat with their feet in water, literally. The latter and the seawater pool proved to be very popular among toddlers. The beach area, in its natural setting, is even more beautiful (and romantic), especially at night when one can see the skyline of the port. Private dining on the beach is highly recommended.
And speaking of dining, the food was oh-so-delicious!!! The breakfast buffet consisted of an interesting and much varied selection of food. Some days even featured fried noodles, fried rice or curry! As a foodie, I especially looked forward to dinner, which generally consisted of pre-set menus. The latter were always thoughtfully designed with a mix of cuisines, ranging from Western to Asian and Mauritian/local cuisines, as well as a mix of ingredients. Whether one is a vegetarian, a seafood lover, or a health conscious individual, there will always be a dish (appetizer, main course, dessert) that will appeal to one’s senses. The food itself is exquisite and the presentation superb. The Chef, Mr. Suardi, often came out to talk to us as well as other guests while dining. Always smiling and warm, he would even explain to us how certain dishes were prepared upon request. Additionally, the dining experience was a real pleasure thanks to the attentive staff. A special mention goes to Ram whose pro-activeness and attention to detail exceed even the highest expectations.
All the more, the resort turned out to be perfect for my fiancé who came to Mauritius for business also. Not only is it conveniently located a mere 10-15 minutes from the capital city, but it also offers business centers and meeting rooms. Furthermore, the entire resort is equipped with high speed Wi-Fi.
Overall, Angsana Balaclava was the perfect getaway for us with its beautiful, natural setting, excellent facilities and professional staff who offered outstanding, personalized service. Certainly, no corners were cut when it came to delivering quality, allowing guests to fully indulge in its comfort and luxury. I miss it already and look forward to going there again very soon.
The spa suite is very romantic and hence, perfect for couples.
