5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2012

This was our first visit to Mauritius and the Angsana Balaclava was the perfect choice of accommodation. The Angsana is beautifully designed and maintained, but I have to say that its uniqueness comes from the superb and welcoming staff who from the moment we arrived were just absolutely amazing. We like to be active and there was no shortage of things to do from various water sports to quad biking and island tours, all of which were organised for us while we relaxed having a drink at the pool bar - heaven.

We stayed in two adjoining Garden Suites which are nicely laid out and very spacious, with a great view of the beach. The Spa is a must as is the BBQ on the beach which is actually an absolute banquet with private chef and table service.

Overall a little corner of paradise away from home and we will definitely be returning.

We (myself, husband and 11 month old son) spent a wonderful 2 weeks at The Angsana Balaclava and loved every minute of it. From the moment we arrived at the hotel, the staff made us feel welcome and relaxed.
Our son had his own special menu including delicious Mauritian curries and sorbets which he loved and our food was just as tasty!
The facilities are excellent with a fabulous spa (the best massage we've ever had), gym and daily activities including aqua aerobics, yoga, Pilates, water skiing, snorkelling etc. You can do as much or as little as you want. They had an issue with the lagoon pool whilst we were there but the freshwater pool was lovely and the private beach was also good. Many rooms (but not ours) have their own private pool too.
The staff were attentive but not overwhelming and made sure our son was well looked after and that we had some time to ourselves too.
We would highly recommend Angsana Balaclava and want to thank all the staff for a wonderful, memorable stay and hope to see you soon!

Never before has a stay pleased me so much as to incite me to write a review, but as they say, there is a start to everything and Angsana Balaclava seems to be just the right trigger for it…

I stayed at Angsana Balaclava with my fiancé in February. As soon as we arrived at the resort, we were awed by the stunning reception area with its relaxing music, soothing lighting and scenic view of the pool, as well as impressed by the courtesy and professionalism of the staff who greeted us with cold face towels and deliciously refreshing drinks.

The check-in process proceeded smoothly after which we were guided to our room, a spa suite, which was simply B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L! Every aspect of the room from its size, layout, furnishing, lighting, and amenities, was carefully and tastefully designed with the ultimate comfort of the guest in mind. The result was a spacious, highly luxurious room with a romantic feel, hence perfect for couples. The room also comes with a balcony and private plunge pool, which proved to be the perfect way to relax and refresh after a long day in the outside heat and humidity (the Mauritian summer is no joke!). Our room was moreover located on the second floor, which gave us even more privacy in the pool.

Moving on from the room, the spa includes an impressive vitality pool that uses water pressure jets to massage all parts of the body. The pool can easily fit a dozen people and thus, enables one to enjoy ‘massages’ while socializing, a concept that I have not encountered elsewhere. A whole variety of massage therapies are also offered by appointment. As for the gym, it consists of a comprehensive set of equipment of top quality, which certainly incites one to work out.

The remaining facilities of the resort were in equally excellent condition and unsurprisingly given that the hotel was only a couple of months old. The main area consists of a seawater pool (a real stunner!), a 25m lap pool and a pool bar that allows guests to eat with their feet in water, literally. The latter and the seawater pool proved to be very popular among toddlers. The beach area, in its natural setting, is even more beautiful (and romantic), especially at night when one can see the skyline of the port. Private dining on the beach is highly recommended.

And speaking of dining, the food was oh-so-delicious!!! The breakfast buffet consisted of an interesting and much varied selection of food. Some days even featured fried noodles, fried rice or curry! As a foodie, I especially looked forward to dinner, which generally consisted of pre-set menus. The latter were always thoughtfully designed with a mix of cuisines, ranging from Western to Asian and Mauritian/local cuisines, as well as a mix of ingredients. Whether one is a vegetarian, a seafood lover, or a health conscious individual, there will always be a dish (appetizer, main course, dessert) that will appeal to one’s senses. The food itself is exquisite and the presentation superb. The Chef, Mr. Suardi, often came out to talk to us as well as other guests while dining. Always smiling and warm, he would even explain to us how certain dishes were prepared upon request. Additionally, the dining experience was a real pleasure thanks to the attentive staff. A special mention goes to Ram whose pro-activeness and attention to detail exceed even the highest expectations.

All the more, the resort turned out to be perfect for my fiancé who came to Mauritius for business also. Not only is it conveniently located a mere 10-15 minutes from the capital city, but it also offers business centers and meeting rooms. Furthermore, the entire resort is equipped with high speed Wi-Fi.

Overall, Angsana Balaclava was the perfect getaway for us with its beautiful, natural setting, excellent facilities and professional staff who offered outstanding, personalized service. Certainly, no corners were cut when it came to delivering quality, allowing guests to fully indulge in its comfort and luxury. I miss it already and look forward to going there again very soon.

Room Tip: The spa suite is very romantic and hence, perfect for couples.

Sublime understated luxury. We have traveled all over the world and this hotel is truly extraordinary.

For romance, the beach villa cannot be beat. It was a luxurious nest to refresh our spirits and definitely worth the splurge. Private pool, private jetpool, spa bathroom... lots of beautiful places to lounge... gorgeous beach...what more can you ask for?

The food was delicious and well presented. The desserts were delicate and subtly flavored. Don't miss the dessert buffet on the weekends! The small portions ensure you can taste test everything.

The spa is amazing. I've never seen a hydro pool like this. It has a little waterfall to massage your shoulders, jets to massage your legs... Not to be missed.

All in all, this resort was a glorious treat. It made us feel glamorous and special, relaxed and in awe of the beauty of the area.

Having visited Mauritius several times on business and pleasure, I can say that Angsana Balaclava is one the most pleasant and unique hotels that I have ever visited. The service is irreproachable and once again confirms that Mauritian hospitality is one of the best in the world.

Food: The food is excellent! The executive chef has reached a perfect balance in pleasing many different taste buds. The menu is different everyday and caters to Europeans, Asians as well as Vegetarians.

Pool: I love how the hotel managed to integrate a sandy beach with a sea water pool. Quite a unique concept as it is the first time I have encountered one. It is perfect for those who dislike swimming in the ocean due to various phobias.

Spa: Every visitor must go to the spa as it has a very beautiful hydrotherapy pool. It contains all sorts of waterjets, waterfalls and bubbles that will massage your body

Poolbar: You must have lunch at least once while there and make sure you sit in the area with the submerged chairs which allow you to have lunch in the pool. It is so much fun!

Room: The room was beautifully designed! We stayed in a ground floor beach villa. The bathroom contains a bath tub made of carved solid rock and a steam shower! Not to mention that the bathroom has a beautiful entrance which leads directly into the private pool and jacuzzi. This proved to be extremely convenient. In addition, what better than waking up every morning to the sound of waves and to a beautiful seaview. The room is also fully equipped with a coffee machine and comes with complimentary bottled water. If one is looking for privacy, you should ask for the upper level as it provides better privacy (although the pool is slightly smaller).

Overall, this is a very well thought out and designed hotel. I highly recommend it and will come back again!

Room Tip: Pay a little extra for the beach villa and you will not regret it! It comes with a seaview and priva...

My wife and I spent the week end at the beach suite and we were so delighted. We were right on the beach with a stunning sea view during sunset while relaxing in the private pool. The huge bath tub made of rock is like a piece of art in the bathroom. What a pleasure!
The friendliness and professionalism of the hotel staff is remarkable and we also enjoyed the huge variety of food served during breakfast and supper. Bravo to the chef!
Thanks again for making our stay so enjoyable.
i would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who wish to have a pleasant stay in Mauritius
