I wish there were a way to rate properties, including this one, "Good", rather than having to choose between "Average (ooo)" and "Very Good (oooo)".
The short version: A good hotel, possibly a bit over-priced.* Most housekeeping seemed and the linens and bedding seemed very good. Breakfast was fairly typical of most Hampton Inns, quite adequate, including hot dishes and the breakfast buffet was kept replenished throughout the breakfast period. However there were a few factors, none really critical, which we thought placed this Hampton Inn a bit below average for Hampton Inns, which I'll detail in the longer version. Nonetheless, it would certainly be a better than "okay" place to spend a night or two.
The longer version: Our room, 209, while attractively decorated, was definitely smaller than most Hampton Inn king bed rooms, or, for that matter, king bed rooms of competitive brands. This meant that there was relatively little surface (work and/or eating) space. There was no permanent furniture to hold a suitcase, and only one folding luggage stand, so the hassock for the easy chair was pressed into service, making the easy chair less easy. The unit which in most similar rooms holds the TV, microwave, mini-refrigerator and two or three full-sized drawers, was smaller and had only one (less than full-sized) drawer. The two night tables doubled as chests, each with three small drawers.
Likewise, the bathroom was smaller than average and so there was much less counter space than one would expect, and the vanity unit, toilet, and bathtub were particularly close together. The caulking around the bath tub showed some spots of mold. Towels supplied were a bit skimpy for a property at this level; a total of two medium-sized bath towels, two small hand towels, and two wash cloths, for two people.
While the bedroom window opens, it is not screened; the night we stayed was chilly and insects were not bothersome, on a warmer night it would likely not be reasonable to open a window.
I should mention some happier observations:
- Adjacent to the breakfast room is an attractively planted terrace/barbecue deck which should be a pleasant place to breakfast in good weather.
- Set high on a hill overlooking Vestal and Johnson City, many views from this property are very nice.
*(We paid in HHonors "points", and thought it, at 30,000 points, not as good as Hampton Inns we've stayed at for 20,000-25,000; prices in dollars similarly seemed a bit high.)
