“Great service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2013

We visit Utica frequently to visit family, and have stayed at the Holiday Inn Express for the last few times. It is new, clean, has a pool & a great breakfast. The staff is always nice, especially Mark Webb, the nighttime front desk associate. He's always friendly, efficient & accommodating. Each time we've stayed there (3 times) he has been there, and has gone out of his way to be helpful. He even brought us snacks this past time, while we were sitting around the outdoor fire pit area. He goes above and beyond to help make the guests of the hotel feel comfortable! I highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Utica!

We selected this hotel as a jumping off point for a side trip into Cooperstown prior to travels to Lake Placid. We got a walk-in rate ($89.99) from the hotelcoupons.com booklet we had picked up at a service area on the NY Thruway. I had already done a little TA research on Utica hotels prior to this stop, so I had an idea of whose properties were rated higher by TA contributors. I am so glad we chose this property. We had actually stopped at the Red Roof Inn (rated just below HIE then and now) and decided to keep looking. The Holiday Inn Express is such a step above the Red Roof, I really wouldn't recommend anywhere else. The property looked and felt new. The front desk staff were very accommodating and helpful with directions to restaurants and a supermarket. The Wi-Fi worked great and the breakfast was better than expected, especially the very personable breakfast room staff. We felt we were in a very clean, fresh room at a very good price. Our room was ground floor. We occasionally heard some noise in the hallway, but it wasn't disruptive to our sleep. We don't really stay at many Holiday Inn properties in our travels. But, our experience here made us take another look at HIE as a hotel choice. Highly recommend this property for stay in Utica.

Dear Shaka_Frank,
I'm so glad to hear you enjoyed your stay with us. I'm also happy to hear that the Wi-Fi and breakfast were both good. If you stop by again, don't forget to take a look at our complimentary dvd library, or if the weather is nice you can enjoy the grill and fire pit in the back patio!

My husband and I were traveling on the highway and pulled off for the night after driving for many hours. The hotel was new, the king bed was very comfortable, the HD TV was huge, and the bathroom had lots of very nice amenities. They gave us a 'walk-in' shower because of his disability, and I actually liked it better than a regular tub/shower combination. The continental breakfast (manager Karen is a fantastic hostess!) was the best we had during our entire two week road trip in the New England area. We've stayed in Holiday Inns before, but this was definitely our favorite!

This hotel was very new. It had a restaurant very close- sharing the parking lot. It is close to a lot of restaurants and the downtown area. The staff were very nice and helpful, the breakfast area clean with adequate seating and the usual breakfast choices for HIE. Room was spacious and clean. I would stay here again if I had to return on business.

Dear Roadtripper10,
Thanks for giving us your feedback. I'm especially glad to hear you mention our cleanliness, because it's always a struggle to keep our hotel looking brand new, but that's our goal. I hope you do decide to stay with us next time you come through Utica

We stopped in here because it was a holiday inn express and it was near the highway. We had just driven for about 7 hours and were ready to stop. They had room for us which was good because we did not pre book this time. The hotel was just about brand new so that was a bonus. The room was very nice and comfortable. We went the Italian restaurant down the road for dinner and it was really good and as usual in the states the portions were too big. Maybe the best advice is to split a meal here.

Dear kwbass,
Thanks so much for taking the time to give us your review. I'm glad you were able to stop off the thruway to stay with us. We're lucky to be within half a mile of the exit and easy to spot behind Delmonico's Steakhouse. I personally prefer to take the leftovers home to use as lunch the next day!

We chose this hotel because it is roughly midway between Boston and Niagara Falls. The hotel is situated at the far end of a parking lot. We were initially given room 225 but were immediately concerned by the loud noises coming from the hotel's plumbing and/or air conditioning. We thought that it might be from the housekeeping room which was next door to 225, but the noises continued after the room maid had finished her work and closed that room. It sounded as if everybody in the hotel was using the bathroom at exactly the same time. It soon became clear that this noise was utterly intolerable and that it would seriously disrupt our sleep so we went down to reception, complained, and the girl, without any hesitation, moved us to room 301. This room was perfectly satisfactory, clean, comfortable and above all, quite quiet. At least it was until about 5.30 when there was a lot of noise from a garbage truck in the adjacent parking lot. Having just managed to get back to sleep, we were then woken again at 6.30 by the telephone ringing. The desk clerk told us that somebody had complained that our alarm had been ringing for over an hour. This was news to us because we had been asleep and the alarm was certainly not ringing. A few minutes later we heard the desk clerk banging loudly at a door along the corridor, presumably the one where the alarm was ringing. It took quite a lot of banging to get a response which just caused us even more misery. Why had the desk clerk not checked which room was causing the problem before unnecessarily waking us? I cannot say that we enjoyed our stay at this hotel.

Room Tip: Avoid 225 at all costs.

Dear Michael,
We do appreciate your feedback, and I do apologize for your unpleasant night's stay with us. We always allow our front desk agents to use their judement and offer anything in their power whenever a guest has a problem, but if you would like to reach out to me directly, I would be happy to see about offering a discount, IHG reward points, or anything else that you might suggest.
Sincerely,
Lee Arthur

At the end of an 800+ mile day, we were very happy to find a warm welcome at this hotel. We thought we had a reservation, but somehow it was for Utica,MI, not Utica,NY!! Anastasia at the front desk was incredibly helpful, and discovered what the problem was with our reservation. She got us situated in a clean, comfortable room at the end of the hall, and we slept like babies.
