“The Best hotel experience I can ever remember”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2009

We had wanted a king suite, but since none were avail. we had a room with 2 queens. The room was alot larger than we expected with plenty of space for suitcases, etc. We asked at the desk for a microwave and it took less than 5 minutes for it to arrive. The front desk was the extremely friendly and accomodating. The hotel restaurant was incredibly good, also with exceptionally friendly service. The lobby and mezzanine areas were stunningly beautiful. The only room for improvement were the beds. The mattresses should be upgraded to pillow-top and the head boards should be stabalized so they don't wiggle when you move.

Stayed one night in a non-smoking room with a king-size bed. 8th floor with huge windows and a gorgeous view. Room was very, very spacious-- bigger than many studio apartments I've seen. Large bathroom, well-appointed, everything worked. Good water pressure and ample hot water. In-room coffee maker worked well. Bed amply comfortable. A/C worked well, easy to adjust. I had no noise issues at night. Ample parking.

Breakfast served in a room off the lobby: eggs, french toast, hash browns, cereal, fresh fruit, assorted pastries. Not enough seating in the breakfast area-- maybe I should have asked permission to take my food up to my room. Lobby has a feeling of faded glory-- very appropriate to Utica.

Biggest complaint was that the internet was very slow, and some things didn't work at all. It made me wonder if they had contracted the service out to some company with over-active content filters. Very annoying, but that alone wouldn't stop me from using the hotel again.

Convenient location, dead center of city. Easy to find-- one of the tallest buildings in town.

The hotel must have been a grand place in its day. Like the rest of the downtown area of Utica, its day has passed. However, it still has some charm. I had a huge corner room, that had wonderful antique furniture. From a cleanliness point of view, the room was fair - seemed to have a faint musty smell. Bed was average. Staff were very friendly - at check-in and in bar, where I had dinner. If travelling through Utica again, I would return to the Hotel Utica due to the charm aspect.

I recently visited the area on business and by chance was booked at the hotel. The building is in the center city and quite old, but the rooms and interior were comperable to any established city hotel I have stayed in. Service was excellent from check-in, from the staff in the bar and restaurant and at check out.
The queen bed room that I received was a bit small, but comfortable and clean. One complaint was the design placed the television in a location that pretty much limited you sitting on the bed to watch it.
In general, I will stay again when visiting the area.

Nice place, very large rooms and clean. Confusion at check in, couldnt get in our room until 6pm since the cleaning staff were not done yet, hotel was sold out the night before.
Not alot of nicer hotels in Utica, paid $99.00 with a AAA discount and overall was very pleased with our 1 night stay.

All the reviews that describe the beautifully renovated Utica Hotel are true. It is a lovely gem! We also recommend dinner at the hotel's 1912 restaurant, too--it's fabulous!

Originally built in 1912, this grand hotel fell on hard times and had to close in 1972. After spending millions of dollars to painstakingly refurbish this historic hotel, it reopened in 2001.

This roaring 20s hotel combines old world charm and is steeped in history. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt and First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt campaigned here in the 1920s, jazz great Lionel Hampton played here in 1939, Judy Garland sang here in 1950, and Bobby Kennedy stayed here on a 1960 campaign trip. Other famous guests who stayed here include New York Yankee slugger Mickey Mantle, Marilyn Monroe, Rita Hayworth and The Andrews Sisters.

If you like elegance and style at a modest price, you’ll be impressed by the majestic marble pillars and crystal chandeliers that welcome you into the Hotel Utica lobby. While some tiles in the lobby were chipped and needed to be repaired, this hotel conjures up images of another era. The elevator could only accommodate 4 people comfortably at a time, yet was fast and efficient. However, our room was spacious, very comfortable and attractively furnished. The bathroom had a granite-top vanity, a beautiful, large gold-trimmed mirror and an elegant light fixture. We got a room on the ninth floor and had a beautiful view of Utica.

The front desk people and the maintenance staff were friendly, helpful and made our stay pleasant.

The complimentary breakfast was excellent. It had a tasty fruit cocktail, fresh apples and oranges, yogurt, milk, juices, hash browns and outstanding scrambled eggs.

I recommend Delmonico’s Italian Steakhouse as a great place to eat. It has a terrific 24 ounce rib-eye steak. The Sunday night we were there, magician Shaun Robison was at the restaurant, entertaining the guests. Shaun got our son to write his name on a card, made it disappear and reappear in his wallet.

This hotel is wonderful throwback to another era.
