“Cozy, Friendly, Great Price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

I was driving to Lake Placid from Rochester, NY and decided to stay at the Shaheen's Motel. Nestled only 35 minutes from Lake Placid, this cozy motel was comfortable and cheap! The staff was super friendly and accommodating. Didn't charge for late check out and got our room heated before we arrived. The bathrooms and decor are stuck in the 60's, but for 65.00 a night... you can't go wrong! Would stay again and would recommend!

My wife and I have stayed twice at Shaheen's, both times winding our way back through the Adirondacks from the 1000 Islands to my family in Massachusetts.

There are so many warm feelings I have about this place, I'm not sure where to begin.

Here's my top 5

1. $84 October 2012
2. Watching a truly family-run motel and thinking how hard that must be.
3. Watching a truly family-run motel and thinking how satisfying that must be.
4. Great convenient location for a single night in transit or a week plus with connecting routes throughout the Adirondacks.
5. Talking with wife as we ferried from Ticonderoga to Vermont, we agreed that Shaheen's had rescued us from a miserable post-vacation drive through Canton and Ogdensburg detours.
This is simply a wonderful place. Yes, breakfast could be a little better, but I totally trust the owners' judgment about what they offer at an amazingly good price.

We booked this place because of TripAdvisor and we weren't disappointed. The room was spotless, especially the bathroom. The beds were very comfortable. It was a pleasant stay. The continental breakfast was more than enough to satisfy us. We also found the owners helpful and pleasant. Great find in the Adirondacks.

This is a classic 2 story motel, extraordinarily clean. In fact it is so clean you can't believe someone isn't in there with a Q-tip in the corners! The size of the room was very comfortable, and in addition to 2 double beds we had a good size table by the large window overlooking a wooded back yard. The toilet/shower/sink room is a separate room from another good-size sink and mirror. You could feel comfortable in this room for a few days. The owners are on site and very friendly. There is a continental breakfast in the lobby each morning, but I recommend The Lumberjack for breakfast, which is just a few miles away. The hotel is near many things- The Wild Center, restaurants in Tupper Lake, hiking, canoeing, kayaking, etc. It is about a half an hour from Lake Placid. We stay here every time we are in the area and look forward to it every time! Highly recommended.

This is your classic 40-50 year old style motel, it is very nice. Spacious rooms compare well with modern big name hotel chains. Desk, table chairs, microwave/fridge combo, but flat screen TV w/ cable. Nice roomy bathrooms. Staff made us feel VERY welcome. Lots of suggestions when asked. Nice breakfast - continental but no fruit. Cereals, coffees, bagels, donuts, muffins, etc. Juice & milk. Pool was closed as it is October. If you want suggestions, ask, they know the area, know the other businesses, etc. We were only looking to stay the night and move along, but stayed 4 nights. Very peaceful, convenient room. Wild Center, nice local restaurants, grocery store, canoeing, etc all very close. I think they would do anything you asked with in reason. Terry called around checking on availability of seating at restaurants one night for us. This is a place to come back to when we return to the area.

Room Tip: Rooms at the end seem pretty quiet. Rooms towards the back have views of woods.

Old style motel, L shape with pool, parking in front of the room.
We appreciated the large room with two Queen size beds surprisingly comfortable, quiet with large windows on trees and the neighbours' garden at the back, space for luggages, sink separate from the bathroom. For travelers, the fridge is very convenient.
The rooms was really squeaky clean, the outside well kept and you feel that the owners, present on the premises, care about their place. We used the pool, the water was clean and clear and we appreciated the long chairs.
This is a more quiet area of Tupper Lake, part residentiel and part commercial.
The only weakness is the continental breakfast, it is minimal: cereals, prepacked commercial muffins and weak coffee.
But the key was the room and for the price it was perfect for an overnight.
