We've previously stayed at another hotel and like Shaheen's better. Don't judge a book by it's cover: 1960's brick exterior, ugh. But inside very nice and clean. Good mattresses, fridge (not at all tiny), decent microwave, eco-bulbs and recycling. Very nice people, adequate "continental breakfast". The IGA supermarket is a 2 minute walk down the road. Combine that with the fridge and microwave, and life is good. We had a family room (a king, a queen and a sleeper couch) for $110 plus tax.
Tupper Lake is a sad town, 100 years past it's prime, more than 50% of the storefronts are "For Rent". But the area is amazing for outdoor pursuits (boating, biking...). Shaheen's is a clean, comfortable, welcoming and reasonable place to stay for those who don't want to camp. We will go there again.
