Places to stay in Troy, NY (home of Rensselaer Polytechnic) are not exactly plentiful. That's why I was glad to find the Olde Judge Mansion. On arriving there, don't be put off by the neighborhood, as it is one in transition, and you can expect some neighborhood noise from time to time. However, the place is comfortable, well kept and welcoming. Tina, the owner, went to great lengths to introduce me to the other guests and made it seem like a family atmosphere. She was a wealth of information on the area and even suggested for exercise walking the famous Oakwood Cemetery nearby. After a good hill climb, one finds oneself on bluffs overlooking the Hudson and among some spectacular monumnets to Troy's 19th century rich and famous. (The female suffragist, Emma Willard, is buried there.) Tina provided a great list of local restaurants (Plum Blossom and Anselmo's were my favorites.) Breakfast was cooked to order every morning and no request was ignored. All in all, it was a very comfortable stay, and I'd go back.

We stayed here for a total of about four nights, and it was a wonderful place to stay. It's an old mansion in a downtown area. Tina was an incredible hostess and cooked a killer breakfast: eggs, meat, pancakes, breads, cereals, juice and coffee that made us forget about Starbucks. It *is* in an "iffy" neighborhood, but there is off-street parking and the B&B is secure. It was quiet inside ... even on the fourth of July, we didn't have any problems with noise. In the evenings, Joyce, played Scrabble with us. This B&B has a lot of return guests, and provides lodging for people associated with the university. Highly recommended. We will stay here again if we return to Troy. - Christine and David.

The Olde Judge Mansion is an absolutely beautiful place to stay. Tina and Mark, the hosts, make you feel so welcome. The breakfasts are better than most 5 star hotels and there are always chocolate brownies or some other delights when you return home at the end of the day. The decor inside is a lovely surprise - beautiful old Victorian style. The beds are comfortable, bathrooms immaculately clean and many other facilities.
