Rooms are in an adjoining building that is alongside the bar/restaurant. My room (5) looked out on to an area where smokers congregate and chat no more than a foot or so from the window, so if you want a quiet time, forget it. Turn the light on when you've forgotten to close the curtains and they'll be staring at you in your Calvin Klein underpants. I turned on the shower, cold water coughed and spluttered then ran brown! Yuk. Hot water was cold. I let it run and run for several minutes - it stayed cold for ages, then was suddenly boiling hot. Dangerous shower - turn it one millimetre in the wrong direction and you'll get scalded.
Went to the bar/restaurant for dinner - played "Hunt the member of staff" for a while. Then a guy turned up, served me a drink, took my food order and promptly disappeared again! At breakfast the next day, the young waitress was brilliant, but the office door was open and all you could hear was the manageress's conversation in a loud voice booming across the room-not what you want first thing in the morning - SHUT THE DOOR!
Next day was similar - where does the barman keep going? Does he have a second job in a bar down the road and have to keep running between the 2? I also had the problem of no hot water again - called for asistance - and the elusive barman turned up at the door! Ah, so he's also a plumber! He gave me some cock-and-bull story about the water being turned off to the rooms during the day - WHY WOULD THEY DO THAT?
This place suffers from the british hotel/catering disease - lack of investment, lack of attention to detail and inefficient management. I never saw more than 2 members of staff during my stay. It's typical of the type of hotel that's being absolutely mugged by Premier Inn. If it doesn't sharpen up it's game-quickly-it's unlikely to be around much longer. It has potential - a nice location and a bit of character - get it together guys, please, before you go under.
