“You Have to Stop Here!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2014

I didn't realize when we stopped here that this fort is privately funded and staffed. They get zero government funding. The fort is in fantastic shape thanks to the maintenance and renovations. They completely rebuilt the officers' barracks based on the original French plans. This fort is so full of history, and the staff do a great job of telling the story of the fort and Revolutionary War. The entire fort is accessible and the staff is exceptional.

If you're a history buff, this is a must stop.

PS
I had to call into work for a web meeting. The fort has a solid 4G signal giving me solid internet access when I needed it!

“Living Fort”

If you like history and like things like Colonial Williamsburg, this is right up your alley. Interpretive staff are fun to talk to and knowledgeable about the history and events of the fort and area

“Great for kids”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2014

Do some reading on the history before you get here - it's a long, complicated history and your visit will be more enjoyable. Nice staff, indoor and outdoor exhibits.

“GREAT HISTORIC PLACE but pass up the cafeteria.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2014

Nice fort with a number of exhibits, soldiers in period costume teaching about the ways of life there, walking tours, and musket and cannon demonstrations. The adjacent King's Garden gives added value to this stop. There is a gift shop with assorted offerings. The cafeteria adjacent should be passed up for better elsewhere. The bean soup wasn't very appetizing and the tuna fish sandwich had about as much tuna fish on it as you'd put butter on a slice of bread. Plus, the order was very screwed up. I asked for tuna on wheat toast and a glass of plain ice water, and got tuna on white, untoasted , and no water until I reminded the waitress. The place was not crowded at the time.
