“Beautiful spot”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2013

Stayed there just one night. The grounds are beautiful, so that's the big draw here. The hotel itself is fine, but you need to do a lot of walking and climbing to get from place to place. If you're traveling without a car the location is not very convenient. I think it's a great spot for business meetings.

Hello Debbie L,

Thank you for taking the time to share your review with our Trip Advisor community.

I am happy to hear you enjoyed our beautiful grounds here at the property. As a historic estate with 12 buildings on 26 rolling acres, we receive many accolodes on the environment that has been created . Unfortunately some walking is required to experience, however happy to hear you enjoyed the beauty that we are known for.

We welcome you back in the future and wish you all the best in your future travels!

I wanted to share the wonderful experience that my family had at the Tarrytown House this past weekend. The hotel and setting are beautiful. The food in the restaurant Cellar 49 and the breakfast buffet was delicious. What made this stay so special though was the outstanding service that we received. In particular, Arkys Fernandez the Rooms Manager went above and beyond what would be expected in order to ensure that our stay was terrific. We initially had the bad luck to be next to some very loud people who kept our kids up the entire night. The next day when we asked to change rooms, Arkys spent a huge amount of effort finding us a different, even nicer option, despite the fact that the hotel was completely booked. His efforts made what could have been an unpleasant trip into a wonderful weekend away. In addition to Arkys, all of the staff that we encountered were among the friendliest and most helpful that I have met in any hotel. We will definitely be back soon!

My wife and I recently visited the Tarrytown/Sleep Hollow area to tour some mansions and enjoy the fall activities. We booked Tarrytown House because of the VIP Blaze tickets they included in our reservations. Upon arrival, the front desk was very welcoming and in the spirit of October, they had free apple cider and candy bags in the lobby. The layout of the hotel is a bit tricky, but not impossible. We were able to easily navigate to our room in no time. Our room was very clean, spacious and quiet. Three of the most important things you could ask for. The day we were there it was slightly raining and the hotel graciously offered complimentary umbrellas for their guests. Our package also came with free breakfast buffet. Most free buffets at hotels consist of luke warm eggs and bagels. Not here. They had two staff members making waffles, omelets and french toast. All the food was excellent as well as the staff.

I would highly recommend the Tarrytown House Estate if you are planning a visit to the area. The grounds are beautiful and you feel secluded while just being a few seconds away from everything. Plus the staff and management really know how to treat their guests and make them feel comfortable.

The location and the grounds are scenic and quite nice. However, the rooms are standard hotel rooms, nothing special. It was difficult to get to our room, which was not attached to the lobby. There is not an easy route to most of the rooms, they are in different buildings. Also the parking is strange in that there are several small lots that fill quickly. We enjoyed our stay for what it was, but we will not return.

Have to agree with other reviewers who said that while the hotel setting is lovely, you don't really get to feel like you are part of it unless perhaps you are here for a wedding or maybe if you upgrade to the mansion part of the hotel. Mostly you just get to see the gardens if the weather is nice and you can walk outdoors over to dine or find your room. The parking situation is not great. there are several lots scattered around but certainly not convenient, if you happen to be checking in as we did, when there were several weddings going on. There was no bellman and while we could use the 15 minute drop off parking to check in, but it was quite a walk to park and then to the part of the building where our room was. The hotel is set up as a series of buildings on a hill -- which we couldn't see until we tried to venture to the pool/fitness center. it was quite a walk down corridors and flights of stairs, down more corridors and more flights of stairs...coming back from the pool it was cold and embarrassing to be drippy wet on such a long jaunt. Plus there were tons of steps to climb! I don't mind the exercise but it was quite unexpected! We never could get the WIFI to work in our room despite two calls and a visit to the front desk for support. It only worked in the lobby. What good is that?! All in all it was high end NY pricing for motel-ish style accommodations and even worse parking. The best thing was the breakfast in the Biddle mansion. The staff and buffet were excellent, but it's not enough to stay there and pay those prices again.

Hello lizzyd56,

Thank you for taking the time to share your review of your most recent stay at our Estate. I am happy to hear you enjoyed your breakfast and our staff however disapointed that our historic estate's layout did not meet your expecations.

We continue to assist our guests with some of these challenges through our bellman services, interactive maps, and investment in property grounds. We will continue to work on these enhancements and thank you for some areas where you feel we can improve.

All the best in your future travels and we do hope to exceed your expecations in the future at our Estate.

Hotel has great activities and includes all the necessary equipment. Everything was in good condition. However, the rooms can be in different buildings and floors and even though we were on the first floor, we had to walk up 2 flights to get outside. The elevators which are did not help.

Room Tip: Ask for a room near the sports center - There are too many stairs to get everywhere.

Hello Linda N,

Thank you for taking the time to share your review of your recent stay at our Estate. I am happy to hear you enjoyed some of the amenities we had to offer.

I am sorry to hear that our layout presented a challenge for you during your stay. As a historic Estate that was not built as a normal hotel layout, this can be challenging to those that are not aware and rather emjoy this type oof environment as a historic estate. We will continue to improve these enhancements while keeping the charm of our property.

I do invite you back to visit us again and wish you all the best in your future travels.

If you haven't visited this part of the Hudson River valley, experience a beautiful road trip in a very charming area of New York and treat yourself to a stay at this fabulous estate turned hotel. Our room was spacious and very, very comfortable. We used the indoor pool, sauna, and especially enjoyed the view from our room which overlooks a running brook and fountain. The buffet breakfast was outstanding. We make it to this part of New York every fall and will definitely stay again. The property does sprawl so be prepared for walking and ask for a room near the elevator if accessibility is a must.

Room Tip: It appears that rooms on the first floor are best for getting to and from the pool and outside areas...
