“Sandy Refugees”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2012

Decamped to the Sheraton after losing powerful to Hurricane Sandy. The staff was outstanding and managed to provide exceptional service in the face of exceptionally challenging circumstances. The reservation staff, the front desk personnel, the restaurant team, and the general management of the hotel were unfailingly positive, polite, helpful, and a terrific resource. It was my first experience with this property, even though my office is close by. I never saw the pressure get to any member of the hotel team. The management provided regular updates on elevator and other service issues and kept everything running smoothly. A special word of thanks to the housekeeping staff, who kept the property looking clean and neat despite the behavior of some of the guests who left their trash wherever they ended up. A job very well done.

Dear MRCMHKC,

Thank you very much for your kind comments about your recent stay at the Sheraton Tarrytown. We were very concerned with the current situation after Hurricane Sandy our guest who were left without power had the best experience during. Our Housekeeping Staff is fantastic they were on top of cleanliness every minute and we are very proud of them. It was just as important that you felt that the Sheraton Tarrytown was your home away from home.

I am happy that the Sheraton Tarrytown had another great guest experience.

We stayed at this hotel this past week for 3 and some of us for 5 nights. We were relocated to this hotel since our originally booked hotel closed down due to hurricane Sandy arriving this past Monday.
The hotel was fully booked with people like us relocated from other places and with people under mandatory evacuation in NY and CT.
Despite the hurricane, strong winds, power outages all around, half of the staff not being able to make it to the hotel due to road closures and their own cars being flooded, elevators not functioning well and without technicians being able to make it to the hotel for repairs, this place performed like a miracle. Excellent and very professional staff, excellent management, the restaurant being able to provide excellent food as if there would be no problems outside and a generator that kicked in when ever the local power supply gave in. The manager provided an update on the situation in the hotel and surrounding areas to every room every day and the staff was always available and was able to provide every service required in a very thoughtful manner.
The fact that some services were not possible - like for example room service - was understandable given the situation described above.
I can only say: Job extremely well done!!

Dear Michael H,

Thank you very much for your kind comments about your recent stay at the Sheraton Tarrytown. The Sheraton Tarrytown takes pride in the special services offered to all of our guest. It is not easy to select a hotel that values guest in making sure their stay is memorable.

This was an unfortunate time with the Hurricane contributing to power outages in area, local bridges and roads closed. Our main goal at The Sheraton Tarrytown was to make sure all of our guest had a warm place to relax, and unwind. We completely understand the stress the hurricane added and continued to have daily open communication to all guest of any changes during the outage.

I am happy that the Sheraton Tarrytown had another great guest experience.

they were not willing to provide room service because the hotel was full. Guests were getting stuck in the elevator. They had to post signs that eleavator only could take 4 people even though it is supposed to hold 12. They blame their shortcomings on the storm we had, but it is a week later. We went to the Marriott next door which was functioning normally and able to provide all standard services. If you come to this area, stay at the Marriott.

I recently had a business trip to Tarrytown and stayed at this property. I was favorably impressed. My room was very comfortable and quiet. It appeared brand new, even though I think it is a few years old. The food in the restaurant was pretty good, even though the service was a little slow...but even with that, I would recommend this hotel to friends and coworkers alike.

For the 2nd time in less than a month I stayed at a Sheraton hotel & I was just as impressed as I was the 1st time. we only stayed 1 night at the Sheraron in Tarrytown but it was great all the same. As was the case in Chicago, the hotel was clean, the room was comfortable & the staff was outstanding! I will definitely stay there again.

What to say...the hotel is located at Route 119, direct access to Highways and about 30 mins to Manhattan without traffic. The place itself is clearly overpriced for what you get. It could definitely use a makeover, everything in there (carpets, furniture etc.) looks a little worn out. It is perfectly clean, just seemed to me it tries to look like a British Country Club when it actually looks like granny's living room. We stayed on the 6th floor, a "preferred guest" floor but except for a small extra lobby in front of the elevator, it did not seem so special to me. The room was spacious but very stuffy, you could not open the windows and therefore have to rely on the AC which did not really help with fresh air. Also, everything seems old and is extremely clean, we had ants all over any sweets or food that we brought to the room. On the preferred guest level, an extra breakfast and kind of appetizer-based dinner is offered including coffee, juice, scrambled eggs, pastry, fruit, a cheese platter etc. Quite reasonable since its included in the price, but it seemed to me that this is just a marketing thing for people staying on a company rate. You have overpriced rooms and since you don't want to go down too much for the corporate rates, you offer a lot of additional nonsense that does not cost you much but sounds nice.
The upside, and actually the reason why I gave 3 stars instead of 2, is the staff. Everybody from the manager to the receptions desk and the cleaning stuff is extremely friendly, helpful and attentive. Good morning sir, good afternoon, how are you doing sir, can we help you with anything, of course sir, right away sir, no tips, thank you, this is what I do sir! And as far as I can tell, it was perfectly genuine niceness, not forced upon the folks by pressure or whatever. People appeared like they enjoy what they are doing and are having fun. If this was charade, they should get an Oscar for it. With this kind of employees you can run any hotel! Actually, they made me feel so welcome and at home that I would go back there even though the facilities themselves might not be perfect.

My husband and I went out for a night on the town. It was to rekindle that flame and this amazing place was the perfect end to a wonderful night. We stood in the top floor suite so it was a bit pricey but totally worth it. Clean, Beautiful, and special... The bathroom was great, big and beautiful. Continental breakfast was great and staff was friendly.

Room Tip: If you can afford it stay at the top suite. It is private.
