“Valentine's Weekend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 days ago NEW

It was a secret. I didn't tell her where we were going. I hadn't seen it in person either so as the car rolled up the driveway the experience was jaw dropping. Historic landmark so you know all is as it was with few improvements. Five course tasting menus compete with painted ceilings, grand pianos, chandeliers animals carved in stone on fireplace. The bed was huge and extremely comfortable. Down comforters, comfortable robes (mine could have been bigger) room service. The spa was in a word enlightening. I didn't know what it meant to relax like that. Massive windows in meditation room. The massage was.. You guessed it great as well. It's kind of expensive but you get what you pay for I plan to get some more soon as I can.

Dear DYLAN D,

Thank you for taking the time to share how much you enjoyed your Valentine stay and that both of you had such a wonderful stay and "jaw dropping experience" here at the Castle! We are glad from the decor, to your comfortable room you felt relaxed and pampered from the moment you arrived. It makes us happy to hear your spa experience was "enlightening" and that you finished your evening with a wonderful dining experience at Equus! We are happy your surprise was a success and we are looking forward to having you both back to stay again real soon.

For our anniversary, I planned a weekend getaway at Castle Hotel & Spa. I was looking for somewhere upstate New York which would be a short ride away from the city and a colleague from work recommended this hotel. It is only a 45 minute drive from Manhattan and located in the small town of Tarrytown (close to a Sleepy Hollow). Prior to arriving, I had exchanged various emails with the staff who had been very helpful in planning this weekend. Upon our arrival the concierge helped us check-in and we were given complimentary glasses of sparkling wine. Our room was quite spacious with a big king size bed. The furnishings are not really modern but the room has all the basic necessities and the bed was super comfortable. The package I had booked was called the "Winter Anniversary Package" and included the room, a 90 minute massage at the spa for two, dinner and breakfast the following morning. The hotel also gave us a half bottle of sparkling wine and chocolate dipped strawberries as a complimentary gift for our anniversary which was a really nice touch.

My favorite part of the weekend was definitely the spa and I would recommend anyone who visits this hotel to try it out. The only downside to it is that it's not adjacent to the hotel so you have to exit and then re-enter the spa building - not problematic except on cold winter days! Other than that the whole spa experience was wonderful - the spa has a relaxation area where they serve beverages and snacks, and for our massage we had a private room which was really nice. The massages were great and very relaxing.

After the spa we had a four course dinner at Equus, the hotel restaurant. The food was good and they had a nice selection of wine. Although there was a loud group of women celebrating a birthday I think generally the restaurant caters for a more "romantic" vibe - there is even a fireplace in one of the dining rooms.

The breakfast buffet had a very nice selection and was also served at Equus - you have views to their garden and on this particular weekend it had snowed overnight so it was really pretty.

I would definitely recommend this hotel for anyone considering a weekend getaway from the city as it is super accessible. Thank you Castle Hotel & Spa - we really enjoyed our stay.

My mother and I recently stayed at the Castle Hotel and Spa for a girls-weekend getaway. The property was beautiful and very well kept. We enjoyed a winter hike around the Castle and dinner and breakfast in the on-site restaurant. The restaurant served local fare, all of which was delicious. The staff was unbelievably attentive to our every need and want, and made us feel very comfortable during our stay. We enjoyed spa treatments at THANN Sanctuary Spa and were impressed with the facilities and the holistic treatment approach. We highly recommend staying at the Castle!

They had a wedding reception from Tarrytown Springhill Suites guests here they had some fantastic historically decorated artists (hotel employees!) and music by the entrance which made a real feel of history! Inside decor is also very authentic and charming. Good people work here and guests from Extended Stay America hotel in Elmsford visit this restaurant and spa here a lot. Must visit place if you are in the area!

Truly a magnificent place. The original castle has seven rooms: wait, they weren't rooms they were suites with as many as three rooms in each suite. The newer section has huge well appointed rooms with sitting, study areas. Add to all this is the splendor and ambience of the dining, hallway and the grounds and you can't go wrong. Especially if price is not an issue. You really get what you pay for.

Room Tip: Higher floors have nicer views.

The Castle Hotel and Spa in Tarrytown, New York is absolutely wonderful! There are only 31 guest rooms, which makes the experience very special indeed. The food, accommodations, and staff are 5-Star! The Thann Sanctuary is the perfect spa! In short, it is perfect for anyone visiting the area, or just for a weekend get-away.

We arrived on beautiful fall day to celebrate our 30th anniversary. Prior to our arrival we informed the staff that our package included a spa treatment and that an "early arrival" will be accommodated See below email:

"This package includes a one night accommodation in a deluxe room, a four-course dinner for two in Equus, along with breakfast the following morning. VIP Treatment Room in THANN Sanctuary Spa for a half hour prior to your treatment and one hour after your treatment. You will experience a 90-minute Swedish Massage. Room taxes, restaurant taxes and gratuities and spa gratuities are included. (Beverage tax and gratuity not included).

Your early check in time is 2:00pm and check out is 11:00am"

Upon arrival the staff looked confused and mentioned we "cannot guaranty" early arrival time and that your room will be ready. Say what????

Role back the video tape. Perhaps some coordination was in order with the staff. Why send any email referring to any early arrival time? Only to have hopes dashed. So now we had arrived "early" cutting time off our first destination in Tarrytown to be sure we where with time for the Castle. So what would any way-ward traveler do? So I proceed to insist this is not what I was told via the email (see above). Asking for a "map" for the lay of land only again to be told by the staff "we do not provide any maps of the facility" Ok now by this point I am heated.

Walking around the lobby upset and not sure of my next steps I was fortunate enough to bump into a general manager by name of Gilbert Baeriswil. Informing us of our situation he immediately looked into our situation, and wouldn't know it..a room was ready. Thank you Gil.

Some suggestions for your staff:
If a couple purchases your "VIP Anniversary Package" and the price is nothing to sneeze at.
1) Accommodate the guest with smile and ensure that they will be helped. Not a confused I doubt that look.
2) Give the people a tour or preferably a map of the facility..buy some time Calm them.
3) Offer the guests some coffee or a treat, guide them make them know they are welcomed and you will do your best to be sure their stay is wonderful.
4) Finally do not "whisper" thinking your guests cannot hear you saying "Well, they should know that check in time is four."

Well that is our story the rest of the stay was perfect our SPA treatment was fantastic our meals exceptional and our room very relaxing. Thank you Castle and Gil for your hospitality.
The desk staff..well that is another story.
