“Tucked away gem - doggie and master haven”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2013 via mobile

I suppose we all ask ourselves what our expectations are before booking a getaway. Ours was quiet time away from the city commotion of New Years celebrations for the first time. This was to be a healthy, peaceful, rewarding time away for me, the hubby, and our 2 dogs... and that it absolutely was.
Our expectation was to stay on the property and leave our vehicle in park mode the entire 4 nights - from Dec 29 to Jan 2, and this we did. We arrived with the appropriate food for the appliances available to us in Leopold, snowshoes, hiking gear, and our x-country skis. The ~60 acres was picturesque with all the snow that was dumped on the area, so needless to say, we took full advantage of the gear right here on the property with our 2 dogs off lease each day. Watching my 2 city dogs hop around in almost knee high snow like a couple of wild deer for hours was bliss.
When not outside breathing in the fresh air in the day, we got through 2 seasons of a tv show at night through our laptop, with some wine of course.... bliss again.
4 cabins on ~60 acres....you could get away with not seeing anyone if you really wanted to, but I suggest to share some stories with Karen & Christophe - they give out a great vibe and you'll feel their genuine desire for you to enjoy your stay.
I feel that Wellnesste can fulfill many different expectations. I thought the property snowed over was picture perfect, the summer pics look amazing. I'll definitely be back for another wonderful experience.
Oh ya, the bathroom being outside the cabin - it was exceptionally clean, it heated quickly, and it was close by. For all the pros this place had to offer, if this is the only con???.... I'll gladly take it! :)
xoxo ..... 'The Canadians' from Montreal

Found wellneste on Living Social and I'm glad I did. The deal was a two night stay for 4, but you could bring up to 10 in the caib we chose, the Adirondack Cabin. We drove about 5 miles from north Jersey, it wasn;t a bad drive at all. It was dark out when we arrived, so it was tricky to find the driveway.

The grounds are amazing. Large open fields, river front fire-pit, two lakes, & plenty of woods to wander in. It looked like there were three other cabins, much smaller than the Adirondack. Multiple fire pits, although we chose the one right on the river.

Area: there's not much as far as stores/restaurants/bars that we saw, but there's a full kitchen and bar so thats fine. We went to the Walmart 15 minutes away, they have all the groceries you will need. Then we stocked up at the liquor store. Pots and pans, microwave, and oven make for easy cooking.

Pet friendly! We brought a puggle and he got along with the three dogs that the owner had running around.

All in all we had a lot of fun. We would go back, but maybe next time longer than 2 nights, it wasn;t enough time.

Room Tip: Adirondack cabin. It's huge. One actual bedroom with a queen size bed. Kitchen/den has a futo...

I'm guessing you meant we're 5 HOURS from Jersey and not 5 MILES. (but, wouldn't that be nice)

Thank you for your lengthy review. They are always the best and most appreciated. Come back with a large group and see us again. It's a beautiful time in the spring, summer and fall...heck, all year round. :)

We bought a Living Social voucher for a getaway and were amazed. This place is out of town and has a private entrance that is posted 'No Entrance' (to those that don't belong there). What you find is a very serene setting with minimal guests (there are only three rental lodges), paths through the woods, and a river that runs along the property. We are talking a spot called "Flat Rock" which is literally in the river and you walk onto it and a spot with adirondack style chairs to sit and look and a fire pit. The host filled it with firewood for us upon request and we sat by the river after dark and watched the campfire and listened to the river go by. We loved it! If you are looking for peaceful, and relaxing this is the spot to check out. Whether you are by yourselves or with a family, no TV, no phone, no internet, but a great spot to go. Bring your pets, they are welcome too!

Room Tip: Any of the cabins are good but if you wish a bathroom without going to another building, choose the...

My girlfriend and I went to Wellnesste Lodge this past weekend (October 26th-28th, 2012). I am a college student, about to graduate with a certification in Childhood Education. This past semester has been very stressful for me, and a weekend getaway to Wellnesste Lodge in Taberg was JUST what I needed.

The cabin that we stayed in (Leopold's) was extremely relaxing. As soon as I stepped in, I instantly felt at home. There is a small kitchenette, with a hotplate for cooking, microwave, good size refrigerator, toaster oven, sink, cabinet space, pot and pan set, and an abundance of cooking supplies. The cabin is really self sufficient- my girlfriend and I did not need much to make it through the weekend, the cabin was already stocked. As far as the decor is concerned, the family keeps the cabin very nice. They include subtle touches that make you feel comfortable and at home. Some of the cabins include a real fire place, ours did not- it had an electric one which kept the place nice and toasty. There is also a ceiling fan which allows the heat to circulate throughout the room- you really do not need to worry about keeping warm in these cabins.

The cabins are located on miles and miles of safe and exciting land. There is a large river that flows close by to where you will be staying that can be a lot of fun for a family. Some activities include fishing, tubing, and relaxing by the fire pit just simply watching the river. There are also hiking trails, right outside of the cabins that you can go on if you would like to spend an afternoon in the woods. My girlfriend and I did that, and it was one of the many highlights of the weekend.

Some things that you must do when on your trip to Wellnesste Lodge, Taberg:

1. Eat at Avicolli's in Camden (Delicious Italian restaurant, the chicken parm was phenomenal).
2. Go on a nature walk around the property.
3. Spend some time down by the river.
4. Start a fire in one of the many fire pits located on the property.
5. Spend some time with the owners- they are very nice people.
6. Turn off your cell phone/computer (although, there is wireless if you want to watch a movie or check your email).

Overall, Wellnesste Lodge was a great place to spend this past weekend. I look forward to a future trip!

Room Tip: All of the cabins are wonderful in their own way.

Relaxing, peaceful, beautiful don't even begin to describe Wellnesste Lodge. We spent two nights in Thoreau's Cabin and it was absolutely amazing. A perfect spot to have an adventure with or without the kids! Walks by the river or looking for frogs around the ponds there is something for everyone. We had a visit from a family of deer over our morning coffee and an owl with our evening fire. Karen was a wonderful host. She made us feel at home. We can't wait for our next visit!

We went to Wellneste, and still after a year we keep on thinking back to it about how restful it was. When we think of resting and relaxation, we think of Wellneste. Karen and Chris are wonderful hosts plus they love our doggie as well. Not too many places in this world that have a combination of beauty, rest, and are dog friendly. Desperately needing to go back.

Room Tip: Choose Leopold Cabin

We spent 3 days here with our boys (ages 3 and 5) and it was the most relaxing, fun and peaceful vacation we've had since our children were born. The grounds are beautiful and there are numerous places to explore along with seating areas and fire pits. The kids had a fantastic time exploring the river, the woods, the frog pond and playing in the sand area. We spent all day outside starting with coffee and breakfast on the patio surrounded by flowers and finishing with roasting marshmallows by the fire. The screened in room kept the kids busy while we cooked dinner on the grill.

We stayed in Leopold's cabin and it was like camping, but without all the bad parts of camping. The queen bunks were comfortable, the cabin was cozy with a small couch, kitchen area (equipped with everything!), a desk and enough room for all 4 of us to be comfortable. We used the full bathroom in the back of the lodge (maybe 20 steps away from the cabin) or the very clean little outhouse.

We were looking for some relaxing family time and so we did not venture off the property, but we noticed nearby golf courses, some cute local towns and a little amusement park. I think we could spend a whole week here and have a great vacation - and maybe that's what we will do next time!
