We stayed here for a visit to Syracuse University. It was convenient to the school, and reasonably priced, but that's where the benefits end. You arrive after driving through a rather sketchy neighborhood (the typical guest probably doesn't arrive this way because they come via the interstate right overhead, but the interstate was closed on this trip, forcing us to drive the local streets). There is an off-street parking garage, which adds to the concern about security.
The exterior of the hotel screams 1960's - round tower built from aluminum, concrete and glass. It may have been attractive when built, but no longer. The lobby was in fine condition and likely renovated recently, and the staff was very pleasant and professional. Next is moving in to the room. This hotel has three elevators and unlike any elevator I have ever used before, these require that you punch in your floor on the outside. Then it tells you which car will be coming for you. When you get into the elevator, there are no buttons other than an emergency stop and door open/close.
Because the building is a round tower, the rooms are wedge-shaped, which makes for a strange layout of the furniture, etc. The bed was horrible. Sagging in the middle and clearly in need of replacement. Also, the pillows are half size of what a normal pillow should be, making it impossible to get a good night's sleep. There was no fridge or microwave.
A complaint about the accommodations the next morning was received politely and professionally and got us a free breakfast, which made up for some of the disappointment. We were assured the bed would be addressed.
This is by no means the worst hotel I have visited. As mentioned, the staff were great, and the price was not terrible. Thus, I did not give this the 1 star rating.
