My family and I dined at Gentile's to celebrate my graduation from law school. We had a reservation for 5, but were running late. The restaurant easily accommodated our request to move the reservation back to 5:45.
Upon arriving, we were promptly seated and offered drinks. The service was impeccable all throughout the evening, and our waitress and the entire wait staff were attentive and polite. Each of the 7 people in my party had an appetizer. I tried the flash fried gulf oysters, which were excellent! My girlfriend had the brie wrapped in prosciutto, which she quite enjoyed.
For entrees, I had the rigatoni with spicy sausage in an olive tomato sauce. It was well prepared and tasted amazing. My girlfriend is gluten free and almost the entire menu was accessible to her. She had a pasta dish and remarked that the gluten free pasta was perfectly cooked, which several restaurants in Syracuse have had trouble with. My Aunt also had a pasta dish, but with several substitutions, and this wasn't a problem either. Finally, my Uncle had the pasta fra diavlo special, and told us all that it was the best fra diavlo he has ever had.
All in all, our experience at Gentile's was fantastic. Although I gave it 5 stars above, it is actually closer to a 4.5, but Tripadvisor doesn't allow decimal rankings. Having lived in Syracuse for the past three years, I can easily say that Gentile's is one of the best dining establishments in the city.
One additional note, several other reviews address the location - it is in a bit of a difficult neighborhood, but the restaurant has its own fenced in parking lot. Don't let the location discourage you from a great culinary experience!
