“Hidden gem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2013

I didn't know what to expect but several friends recommended me to go here. Curious about their sign out front for their buffet special, I finally made my way upstairs one day. It is a quaint little spot on the third floor of the building. They were attentive and helpful (as I had never had Indian food before) and made me fresh Naan bread. Definitely try a little bit of everything especially if you've never had Indian food before. I can't really compare quality-wise but there were a lot of unique flavors for everyone to try ranging from spicy to sweet. Yum!

“Worth the climb to the third floor.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2013 via mobile

We went for the lunch Buffett and it is good we had a guide with us. The restaurant is very plain and small but the food was hot and very tasty. The cook in small batches and refill the warmers frequently. The price was $9 and we all cfelt it was well worth the price.

“Worst Indian in Syracuse, NY - Which Is Still Decent”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2013

Because Syracuse, NY has a large Asian population, we have a disproportionate number of Middle Eastern, Indian and East Asian food options for a small city. While it's still difficult to find a good Chinese restaurant (though Panda West and Fortune Hawaii fast food aren't bad), there are no less than five Indian restaurants in the Syracuse Metro area, so you can pick and choose.

In a town with only one Indian restaurant, Samrat would be a good place to eat. The food's genuine Indian (no "Beef Curry" like I've seen in other allegedly Indian restaurants!) and the flavors are right - they're just not all that inspired. I didn't hate eating there by any means - I just knew I'd had better in Syracuse.

Samrat is close to both Crouse/University/VA Hospitals and Syracuse University, so it's convenient to both hospital employees and visitors, as well as college students and their families. India House in Liverpool, Doza Grill in Dewitt or Taste of India in Syracuse's University Hill neighborhood are better places to eat if you want Indian, though....

“Great Food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2013

Samrat is great Indian food. The buffet is great and most times I've been there they continue to put out fresh food on a regular basis. The chicken tikka masala is the best I've had including those in NYC. Mango lassi is a favorite of our whole family. The entrance is nothing to write home about, but it is worth the trip for great Indian food that will not upset even the tender stomachs out the.

“Average indian food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 16, 2013

There was a buffet for about 10 dollars- but i did not take it as food looked a little stale. It was an option though..and they allow you to pack and take 1 helping of all the variety
