For years Koto was a tiny restaurant next door to the beautiful historic Lafayette Movie Theatre in our town and there was often a wait for seating. We were sad when they closed only to rejoice when they re-opened a few blocks down in a larger space. My husband and I dine there weekly now and others are catching on because this past Saturday night every table was filled and people were waiting so the poor waitress and owner were scrambling to serve everyone - the service somehow did not suffer at all. I don't know if this is a new sushi chef or not but he is excellent and all the dishes we ordered were fresh and delicately seasoned and prepared - our absolutely favorite is their signature clam soup - a delicious peppery broth with fresh Little Neck clams in the shell, also the steamed shrimp shumai which is served in a graceful curved dish with two indentations for the sauce and the mustard. The peaceful atmosphere and kind, courteous, smiling staff make the entire experience the quintessence of Japanese dining, delicious, tranquil and beautiful.
