“Am proud to be an Islander.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2012

I loved the historic setting and there were a lot of books that you can buy to learn about Staten Island. I bought a book on haunted areas on the island and I am LOOKING forward to browse those areas! The Park Ranger is really nice and he will give you so much stuff to learn about within few hours. You will be walking out with a rich knowledge of being a Staten Islander.

“Call ahead and take a great tour of the NY harbor fort.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 29, 2012

Its a little known secret spot for tourists on Staten Island. A ton of history you would not expect to find on Staten Island. Don't miss it weather a tourist or a native. Call for the tours, very regular and not crowded. Young and old will enjoy the sights and the visit.

“AMAZING!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 26, 2012

Feel like your really part of New York-great park with paths and playground for children. All this right under the Verrazano Bridge- so close you feel like you could touch it! Amazing views of Manhattan while exploring the history of the fort. Don't forget to visit the goats that roam the park. Just amazing- please don't miss this when you visit Staten Island!

“Million dollar view is not to be missed by tourists and natives.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2012

Don't just drive over the Verrazano Bridge on your way somewhere- STOP and exit at Bay street for an unexpected treasure.
At the very end of Bay street drive through what looks like an admission gate, but usually it's unstaffed because admission is Free!
There is a new visitor center with bookstore and bathrooms, and best of all knowledgeable national park rangers who will direct you to the overlook and for the more adventurous a walking tour for the battery weed, the parade ground, and 2 forts which guarded our harbor in NYC.
All this is part of the gateway national recreation park.
