“Family-friendly luxury on the North Fork”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2010

My husband and I spent an evening at the North Fork Table and Inn with our 15 month old. The owner, Mike, greeted us and allowed an early check-in so our son could nap in the afternoon. He napped in the room, we sat outside, read and checked email- all the while we could check on him via a monitor just like at home. Our room (#1) was very clean and spacious. The Inn is on a main road, but we didn't notice the street noise in our room. The only suggestion I would make for the rooms would be to add a towel rack to the bathroom because the hooks were not sufficient for hanging hand towels and bath towels if we were to reuse them.

The location of the Inn is great. Close proximity to Greenport, Ferry to Shelter Island and all of the vineyards. We did it all and enjoyed it very much. That evening we had dinner in the restaurant while our son slept in the room (again used the monitor while at dinner and it worked perfectly). The restaurant was amazing and reminded us of some of the finer restaurants we had visited in Chicago, NYC and DC. While the restaurant does offer a menu for children, and they welcomed us to dine with our son, I would not recommend doing so as it would take away from the overall dining experience (ours and other diners), and was such a treat to enjoy a nice meal with my husband. The service was superb and the food was delicious. It was an added bonus that we could just walk upstairs when we finished and didn't have to pay a sitter :)

Breakfast the next morning was also amazing. It is a continental breakfast, with coffee, juice, yogurt, cereal, etc. But also includes housemade granola, muffins, scones and tarts. Just perfect!

We will definitely be visiting again and would recommend for a romantic meal and as very welcoming to families.

This is a wonderful find - sophisticated food that celebrates local produce in the bucolic North Fork. Chef Gerry Hayden created a spectacular dinner, and our lovely room was steps away - then we woke up to an elegant and delicious brunch by renowned pastry chef Claudia Fleming. It was a perfect get-away.

As my wife put it, it was like having a room over Gramercy Tavern. Comfortable, cozy, and attentive hospitality. The dinner was spectaular - - inventive and accessible - - favorably comparable to anything we get in Manhattan or Brooklyn. Perfectly cooked fish matched with gorgeous vegetables. The desserts were heavenly. Always pitch-perfect to complement rather than overwhelm. At breakfast the second morning a light-as-a-cloud ricotta quiche was laid out paired with blindingly bright farm-raised tomatoes drizzled in a basil-truffle oil. We ate and refilled our plates and cups while reading our complimentary New York Times.

During the days we toured the wineries (Croteau and Shinn Vineyards are must-sees) and strolled in greenport looking forward to our next meal.

It felt as if we were there a week. Two days at the quiet Inn were worth 10 somewhere anywhere else.

The North Fork Table & Inn was a lovely place to spent a great couple of days. My husband and I stayed here for two days as a second part of our honeymoon. It's location near the marina and shops of Greenport, LI as well as a ferry to Shelter Island, was an added bonus! The staff was friendly as well as professional. The room was cozy and the bed was very comfortable. We stayed in one of the larger rooms facing the front. The food at the restaurant was superb and desert was heavenly! Our hats off to the chefs, the owners and the great staff!! We will definitely be back!

Service was top-notch. Very attentive staff (even the young assistant waiters in their teens), white-linen service, clean space and friendly staff. You could not get better service in any of Manhattan's Michelin-starred restaurants.

The food was amazing. My wife is a celiac (gluten-free) and the waiter was notonly aware of the restrictions, but knew each dish's ingredients and helped her with her selections.

I had the pea soup and she had a frisee salad. The salad was clean and delicious. The soup was out of this world. It was served cold and was refreshing and so "green" tasting!

I had the Berkshire pork plate an she had black sea bass. Both were truly amazing and so well-balanced. You could taste the care that was put into each component - sauces, starch, veggies and meat.

The desserts were tapioca pudding with mango and coconut sorbet. Delicious, as well.

Wines were surpisingly reasonably priced but not cheap.

Will return again!

Highly recommended!

My husband and I stayed at the Inn over Memorial Day Weekend, bringing our bikes on LIRR from the city. We toured vineyards and farm stands, hiked on Shelter Island, and went to the beach. We dined each night at the restaurant after showering, relaxing for a bit in the lawn chairs, and sipping cocktails from the bar.

Our room, No. 4, was great - clean, quiet, & charming. The locally made soaps/shampoos/lotions were great, and the peony was a nice touch. We didn't hear any noise from the restaurant or parking lot.

Breakfast was served downstairs, complete with a Sunday Times. They offered freshly baked scones, muffins, house-made granola, juice, yogurt, and a warm dish that varied daily (frittata, tart, etc). All were great.

To say the food was amazing would be understating not only the meal, but the entire dining experience. Food is craft here, and the enthusiasm, creativity, and desire to share are evident in everything they do. We felt like we were guests at a dinner party, despite how busy the restaurant was. The table service was the best we've ever had. Mike, the Director of Beverages, spent a lot of time with us (and all diners), explained the virtues of what we had ordered, and offered samples of things we hadn't so we could compare.

We tried the Tasting Menu with wine pairings the first night, and ordered a la carte (with much help :) the other two nights. I couldn't pick a favorite, but the standouts (for me) were: (appetizers) the dill salmon served raw over fresh corn blinis and the roasted squab with spring onions, (entrees) the scallop with crispy potato cake and the beef served with carrots that almost made me cry. Yep. That's how good it is. And we haven't even made it to desert :) My husband loved the carrot cake, which had chucks of apricot, but I was blown away by the combination of coconut tapioca, passion fruit sorbet, and basil oil, which was offered on the house to start the last course. This is food that changes your perception of what food can be.

I would highly recommend the Table and Inn to anyone looking for a romantic, adventurous, and relaxing get-away-weekend. This would be a *seriously* impressive date/gift/celebration :)

We can't wait to go back each season.
