“Lovely but noisy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 27, 2005

This is a charming and well-located house, with a very welcoming atmosphere. Breakfast is excellent and the staff is warm and accomodating. The location is also excellent -- right in the heart of charming Southampton. The only downside -- at least in the oldest part of the house, where we stayed --- is the lack of insulation; thus a noise level that made sleeping, especially before midnight and after 6am, quite difficult for anyone but the most sound sleeper. Despite silicone earplugs, we could even hear the snoring of the gentleman in the room above us for most of one night as well. We would definitely stay there again, but be very judicious about room location -- perhaps the cottages are the best bet.

I absolutely loved our stay at the 1708 house. It is a converted home with a ton of history. This historical plot was redone in 1996 (i think). They have rooms dating back to the 1700's. The rooms are comfortable with all of the amenities of a home. The kitchen is open with drinks for all. Tea is set out in the evening with cookies and chocolates. The breakfast is divine: fresh fruit salad, pastries, bagels, ham, quiche, yogurt, coffee, tea, etc! This is all served in the attached dining room on beautiful china. It is a cozy place to stay and wonderful staff. They are more than accomodating. Call early as they fill up fast! The only down side is that if you are close to the stairs it can be a little loud as it's all hardwood floors. Otherwise the location is less than a block from Main street and across the street from the supermarket. It's a great place to stay and only about 2 minutes to numerous beach accesses. I would highly recommend this wonderful place!

This place was fabulous! After a terrible start to our holiday where we had booked to stay in some flea infested hole so promptly left, things were not looking great when we phoned this place up out of the blue. As we were travelling out of season we were really lucky and got an upgraded room to a suite for $150 a night- (although in high season this can go to $650 a night)!

The rooms are big with ensuites with proper old roll top baths, air con and beautiful antique furniture s ome which is for sale. In fact the whole house looks like a museum. Skip , Lorraine and their daughters that run the place are lovely and can't do enough for you. As we were tourists Skip took the time to go through all the local maps with us and point out the best places to eat and visit. They really do want you to treat the House as your own and have no qualms with you popping into the kitchen to make a piece of toast or have a can of coke during the day.

This place was so beautiful it absolutely made our holiday!
