Just spent the weekend getting married in Skaneateles, and so pleased with our choice of the Arbor House as our "wedding central" location. We reserved 9 of the 11 rooms, and EVERYONE was more than pleased with their accomodations. There are two houses; most of our party stayed in the back/newly renovated site. The rooms were clean, the bathrooms spacious and well appointed. The breakfasts were very good-- a custardy French Toast or omelette, fresh fruit, various cereals. Good coffee.
The rooms in the front/older house are, as expected, smaller and have some of the quirks that are to be expected in an older home. (My wife and I stayed in one last winter while checking out the Inn--we had no complaints, and a minute of online research can pretty much show you what you are getting--really have NO IDEA how "lesley s" could have had such a different experience than the other 20+ people in our party?)
Anyway, the site is ideal for a group traveling together, especially for an event like a wedding. We loved the back building's privacy. There is a large suite (the Bella Rose) with a full (and very nice!) kitchen, a big living room area where we all converged after the rehearsal dinner and the wedding reception to visit and continue the festivities, and a huge back lawn off the Bella Rose's outdoor deck where the kids could run and play w/o our having to worry about their being near the driveway. Perfect. We had all six rooms in this part of the Inn, and everyone felt they had all the privacy they needed with easy access to the "community space" of the Bella Rose just inside the front door.
The innkeeper Wayne was attentive and accomodating. He made arrangement for all of our group to have Sunday brunch together (probably not easy to have 22 guests converge at once, but we all had an excellent breakfast with prompt and very courteous service). I had the usual list of pre-wedding questions and concerns, and he made sure our rooms were all ready a few hours earlier than the typical check-in time so we could place welcoming baskets and set up the "Wedding Central" suite.
In summary, this is a very nice place to stay that is awayfrom the noisy main streets of Skaneateles, an easy walking distance from downtown (and three doors down from a really nice bookstore/coffee house), that is reasonably priced (we compared the AHI with many of the other B&B's in town-- all are priced about the same). The food was quite good, the rooms clean and well appointed. Overall, we were VERY pleased that we made this choice for our out-of-town guests. If you are looking for more luxurious accomodations, the Mirbeau Spa is a mile away and 2-3 X the price (we did stay there too, after the wedding). For what we wanted for our family and friends, the Arbor House was just right.
