Description: Our dining incorporates the spirit of wellness and balance by spotlighting local products and organic whenever feasible. We take great care to support the farm-to-table concept and use the culinary talents of our team to incorporate daily baked goods, New York State beef, Finger Lakes produce and cheeses into your stay with us. The Dining Room at Mirbeau takes the form of The French Steakhouse every evening when the lights are dimmed and the music gets a little progressive. Classic pleasures like East- and West-Coast oysters, table-side Caesar Salad as well as seafood flown in fresh daily complement the variety of French comfort foods and in-house dry-aged beef on our seasonal menu. Have fun sharing sides to accompany your steaks or seafood and you might even find yourself having to defend your soufflé against others’ advances. Attire is relaxed and refined with no particular need to go with (or without) a jacket or tie.

“Much to be desired from days NOT too long ago...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 11, 2011

Yes, as some reviews have mentioned, service has been an issue in the gorgeous dinning room at Mirbeau. But the real issue here is the with the food.
We frequent Mirbeau for it's beautiful rooms, surroundings and awesome spa! But the truth is since their extremely talented executive chef Moro departed there is much to be desired when dining there. It was an almost surreal experience to eat food that brought all the beautiful gardens and spa experience into harmony to really pamper you and your loved one. I hope the management will return Mirbeau to that way of dining...
BTW, You can visit chef Moro at his restaurant called Moro's Table at 1 East Genesee St. Auburn, NY. About 15 mins from Mirbeau. Or you can try Joelle's French Bistro at 4423 State Street Road Skaneateles, NY. About 15 mins from Mirbeau.

Thank you for your review. We are very sorry that you were not pleased with your visit to The Dining Room at Mirbeau. When Mr. Moro chose to leave our property about 3 years ago, we took that opportunity to redesign our restaurant concept and menu. We are sorry that this is not the menu and style that you were used to. We will continue to give our noted Four-Star, Four-Diamond service in our restaurant as well as serve nationally acclaimed meals. We hope that you will reconsider and join us again as a guest at our table.

“Not up to expectations or the price point”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2011

The place is amazing. Everyone is polite. But the world class surroundings and friendly can't cover up the absolute mediocre menu, flavour or service.
Wish it wasn't true because the place is beautiful. Go for a massage. But don't spend your hard earned money in the dining room for dinner. There are plenty of cool places nearby.

Service was bad. From the drink at the beautiful bar to the wait staff. My beet salad used canned beets. My steak looked like it was baked. It was not barrel cut. It was a terrible meal.I Expected so much more at this beautiful Inn.

“A very well prepared meal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2011

When I initially attempted to make a reservation I was put on hold 10 minutes before hanging up, I called a week later and the dinner reservation was made quickly, though they ask a lot of questions- who will be coming, any occasion, any food allergies, have you dined with us before, I am a bit more accustomed to leaving a last name, how many and a phone number. The parking lot near the restaurant was full when we arrived (Sat night with a wedding reception taking place), so I ended up parking up hill, quite a hill and a bit of a distance away from the restaurant entrance. Upon arrival we were greeted as Mr and Mrs the entire night, service was genuinely nice, I expected more pretense, but instead was very comfortable. We were using a gift certificate, this took a bit of the sting away from fairly high prices. The dining room has some outdoor tables, a larger room in the center where were seated. We were at a table in the center, there were some corner tables where couples we seated on a curved couch, you know you are old when you are looking at them being very affectionate and thinking- get a room. The decor is stylish and creates a nice ambiance. We noticed as food came from the kitchen the aroma from the food was tremendous and hastened out appetites. A little odd on the server's presentation- as he went over the menu, it was just that, no specials, just a more detailed explanation of what was on the menu. We had already read the menu and mostly had our minds made up, had we known there were not any unlisted specials we would have just placed our order. They were out of a fair number of things- no french onion soup, no rack of lamb (looking for a new supplier) no cappicino (machine broke) , one of the desserts was out as well. We had the Ceasar salad for two, prepared table side and very ample. The bread was just OK, 3 rolls and a slice of bread. I had a NY Strip which was served sliced up, the meat had incredible flavor, just a touch rarer than requested (Med well) but the taste was great. The garnish on it was a bit flamboyant and a little awkward to eat around. My wife had the seared salmon, it was one of the best she has had in some time. I had a side of Bistro Pomme Frittes, essentially fancy french fries, a bit awkward to eat 'finger food' at such a nice restaurant, my mistake. My wife had a side of mushrooms, again absolutely great. For dessert I went with the Chocolate Decadance, she went with the Hummingbird Cake, again both were great, the hummingbird cake is a large serving. We were very pleased with the attentiveness of the service, not intrusive, but appearing at the right times. My wife was unable to eat all her meal, when they boxed it, they kept it off the table until we completed our meal, a nice small touch. After we dined, we strolled the grounds briefly, they are quite pleasing. The wedding reception was going on with a band playing, I am not sure if I would want to be a guest in the rooms with the wedding reception music really permeating the quiet of the night. We arrived at 6:30 and left at 9PM, and went away having enjoyed a very nice dining experience. My wife enjoyed it enough that I might be compelled to return, it will need to be a fairly important occasion though.

Thank you for your very lovely review. We apologize for the initial effort it took to make your reservation and are pleased to hear that your 2nd attempt was taken immediately. In regards to your note about specials, The Dining Room at Mirbeau does not offer nightly specials. Our menu is adjusted seasonally with daily items already listed (soup du jour, etc.). We are very happy that you were able to enjoy our grounds after your meal as well as our property is meant to be enjoyed in conjunction with your activities. Should you choose to experience an overnight with us, please note that almost all weddings take place on a Saturday and our off-season (end of October through middle of May) offers lower rates than peak season. Thank you again and we hope to see you again soon!

“Terrible Disppointment.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2011

We just returned from a weekend in the Finger Lakes. My husband, daughter and son-in law spent our first time in Skaneateles. A great town, with some very fine dining, but the Mirbeau is not one of them. We had reservations for 8 pm Sunday night. They were not ready for us, which was fine as we were so taken by the beautiful grounds we walked around the property. When we were seated the restaurant was maybe 75% filled. Our waitress took our drink order and advised they did not have the Finger Lakes wine we had chosen, no problem we chose another wine. We waited approx 10 minutes for another bottle of wine. The one martini arrived much quicker. One of the special vegetable dishes was not available. Approx 30 minutes later our meal came out.
The lobster and mac dish was bland and no lobster meat. The home made gnocchi a special of the evening came with a sauce that was unremarkable. The small beef filet was cooked right and tender, but the two sauces chosen we unseasoned and dry. The tuna was fine, but the inexperienced waitress was unaware that a soy/wasabi sauce was appropriate, not bearnaise and hollandaise. We had to explain the sauces available were for beef. Water glasses were not refilled so my son in-law got the water pitcher and refilled our glassess. The bread basket was not refilled. One of their signature desserts, chocolate souffle they ran out of, and only had one left. My husband ordered, and we waitied the standard 20 minutes, which a souffle takes and the rest of the table was not given the dessert menu. None of us were keen on dessert after having the meal, and it certainly did not surprise us that souffle was not light and fluffy. We informed the restaurant nicely of the issues and we told that there were problems in the kitchen. To end the evening the wine and drink were omitted from the bill. We did not want to assume that this adjustment was made due to the poor service and lack luster food. We pointed it out the waitress, and she had made a mistake. The wine was omitted in error, but they were giving us the one drink! When we told our Inn Keeper about the experience she was very much aware of the problems with the restaurant. Apparently at one time they had a fantastic chef who is now gone.
