“Quaint, terrific location; but lacking...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2013

Terrific location in Skaneateles with rooms that are well appointed and bathrooms with new fixtures. Our room was over sized and despite facing the main street there was no infiltration of noise. The bedding was high quality as well as the towels. However, the Inn requires a serious renovation relative to technology. The WiFi is free; but, unreliable and the TV in our room was 18" was placed on a shelf that inhibited using the remote control.

The front desk staff were distracted upon our check-in and provided no additional information regarding the local area. A breakfast buffet is included with your reservation; but, the quality of the food below average and the wait staff looked hung over from the night before.

We did not eat in any of the Inn restaurants; but, the menus looked appealing and the wine list is extensive.

This property is definitely worth a stay.

We were only in Skaneateles for a short time....we were scouting for a hotel/inn to spend a night this summer while biking through the Finger Lakes. The Sherwood was on our list and we were not disappointed! The staff was very friendly and allowed us to view several rooms. Each room had a look of it's own...all very unique. They also introduced us to their "sister facility" just down the street called the Packwood House. It is a more modern hotel without the charm of the Sherwood Inn but beautifully decorated, comfortable and the same beautiful views of the lake. We opted to stay there for the night but we did book 5 rooms at the Sherwood in July for our bike tour. The breakfast in the morning was outstanding! It featured bakery items from the "Patisserie" which is located right in back of the inn. It's a must to visit this amazing little bakery while you're there. We are looking forward to this summers visit with our biking friends. Mark C

We have been here for dinner on several occasions and the food has always been excellent and cooked to perfection. The service is very good also, and the everyone there is very helpful. The town is very scenic and a wonderful place to spend a relaxing vacation. So many little shops within walking distance and a wonderful bakery in their backyard too....

Room Tip: We just ate there but there was a lot of people that were staying there for weekend or longer. We h...

I have been overnighting at the Sherwood Inn at the end of May on my way from Toronto to the Hamptons, for some years. It is terrific. I spotted it years ago, exploring the Finger Lakes which caused me to drive through Skaneateles, and started having my lunch there before I got smart and planned my trip so I could spend the night. I love the bar. The rooms are fine. I just wish there were more places like the Sherwood Inn.

My husband and I spent a few days in Binghamton on a business trip and wanted to visit our sons at college in Aurora and Syracuse we decided to spend a night at the Sherwood Inn to break up the traveling. What a wonderful experience. The decor, food, staff, hospitality were amazing. What a wonderful treat. We will definitely go back there again. Maybe for our anniversary.

Room Tip: Stay on the third floor. It is a three floor inn. The bottom floor is restaurant. The second and thi...

We live just 30 miles from Skaneateles, but wanted a quick winter getaway. Lovely suite with a fireplace and double jacuzzi overlooking the lake. We'd intended to visit other favorite eateries, such as Rosalie's Cucina, but we never left the inn. Good food, great atmosphere and pub.

Room Tip: We like the old inn. Rooms overlooking the water have some traffic noise, but it's worth it.

Taking advantage of a gift certificate given to us years ago ( the Sherwood generously honors gift certificates long after the one year date) , we spent one night in Cottage Room #2 at the Sherwood Inn's Village Inn property in the heart of downtown Skaneateles in upstate New York.
While decidedly small-ish, this lovely little room was inviting, beautifully decorated in cottage style, and made us feel like we were far, far away, when in truth it was just a 45 minute drive from home.
The bed and pillows were scrumptiously comfortable. The shower spray ( a pet peeve of my world traveling husband) was hot and full, like a shower should be. The wall behind the bed was exposed brick, an interest grabber that made us feel even more like we'd stepped back in time or gone to a European villa. After a lively dinner with friends at the Sherwood Inn Tavern, we had a restful night.

Our mini-vaca finished with a fine breakfast buffet on the Sherwood porch. Delicious raspberry danish, perfectly seasoned home fries, scrambled eggs, a large block of cheddar cheese, Euro-style cheese and meat platter, and the chunkiest granola I've seen accompanied piping hot coffee served by friendly waitresses.

Taking advantage of a $99 Winter Special made the evening even sweeter.

The only caveat: The Village Inn is located a block and a half away from the main historic Sherwood Inn, on a busy downtown corner of the Village. It was no problem for us in chilly early March, but I'm guessing it could be rather noisy once the packed tourist season starts on Memorial Day. Thanks Sherwood Inn for a wonderful visit we hope to make again.

Room Tip: This is a renovated, but old building. Noise could be a problem if you're sensitive to outside s...
