“A Grand Old Painted Lady!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2011

Perfectly located directly across from the lake, this a charming Victorian home converted to a comfortable B & B. The rooms are well appointed with furnishings from the period, spacious and clean. Sandy, our host, couldn't have been more welcoming and shared her lovely home with us.. She suggested and made our dinner reservations at some lovely area restaurants. Breakfasts were delish! Ask about her B & B cookbook....full of her favorite recipes. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

My wife & I aren't B & B people, so we didn't know what to expect. What we found at the L of the L was sophisticated hospitality, turn of the (last) century charm, a dazzling town with to-die-for views wherever you happened to turn your head, an abundance of great restaurants of every variety, & a rare peacefulness that's an antidote to today's over-caffeinated world. Lest the Lady be thought to be stodgy, there are welcome contemporary amenities like wi-fi & AC that in no way compromise the lovingly achieved ambience of the place. And don't miss the breakfast, which sets a high standard for the rest of the day.

Room Tip: We liked the Mary!!

My husband and I had a romantic stay at the Lady of the Lake Bed and Breakfast. It was a perfect get away. The propietors were wonderfully attentive to every detail, while still allowing us privacy to relax.

The Victorian home is just lovely....as is the view of the lake and town from the front porch. It is within walking distance to Skaneateles' beautiful downtown.

We had a wonderful breakfast each moring on beautiful china! The Lady of the Lake even has it's own breakfast cook book available for guests with lots of great ideas to take home with you!

The Lady is well maintained and extremely clean. The guest towels are thick and luxurious, the bedding is excellent.

We are looking forward to returning again!

Bear in mind that this is a review and is not written to be negative or postive at all, just the facts!

This was booked as a birthday gift for my wife and thus I had specific things that I had in mind. The first priority when selecting a B&B for this location (Skaneateles) was a claws foot bath tub. After going thru the various options I chose Lady of the Lake and booked the DeEtta room which had a claws foot tub, perfect. Upon arrival we were greeted by the most wonderful lady who was the caretaker. She had indicated that a long term boarder had rented the room and were were being "upgraded" to one of the other two rooms of our choice. The other rooms were very nice but lacked a claws foot tub....very disappointing! However we picked out the Stella and settled in.

When I booked I knew that this was right on the corner of State Routes 5&20 and West Lake Road right in the center of town. This was not a concern since it was a weekend, hence no major truck traffic/noise, and in January, thus no major tourist traffic. Unfortunately we had a snow storm that night and every piece of snow removal equipment on the eastern seaboard must have been out running between 3 - 5 AM that sleep was interrupted frequently, very noisy. I can not imagine what the street noise would be during the week or summer season.

Other than that the service and helpfulness of the care taker was exceptional! Breakfast was plenty and over the top! We were constantly offered drinks and snacks as well as very cheerful banter. Since we were the only ones there, the long term person was "home" for the weekend, I feel we got such personalized service that we felt part of a family!

It was a great one night stay and perhaps if it was for more than one night and no snow storm we would have not noticed how close we actually were to the main roads. All in all it was a great weekend get away and Happy Birthday! Thank you!

If all bed & breakast's were as good as Lady of the Lake, hotels would be out of business! Sandy and Barry were gracious hosts and our room (The Stella) was perfect.

We travelled around on this holiday, so stayed at a few places making it easy to compare. This accommodation is where we had the best French Toast - melt in the mouth, having been soaked in Grand Marnier. The B&B seems to be run single-handed by a very able hostess, who has thought of all the travellers' needs. A sit on the porch in the evening is lovely, with a complimentary drink. We had the room with the original bathroom fittings, which were very well maintained and added character. A very pleasant stay, just a few minutes' stroll to the shops and restaurants.

This B&B is a beautiful old victorian house with three rooms available. The whole house is full of beautiful antiques and beautifully decorated. Beds are comfortable and rooms all have wonderful little touches.
Breakfast was scrumptious!

Sandy, Barry and Chelsea (the dog) are personable and very helpful and friendly.
