“Perfect anniversary get away”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2013 via mobile

My husband and I are long time Shelter Island visitors - my uncles, grandmother, and great grandmother have all lived on the island at some point - so it's a place dear to my heart. For our first wedding anniversary, we thought there would be no better place to visit, and La Petite Maison turned out to be perfect. The rooms were much more modern and well appointed than the exterior would suggest - I thought we were in for a "rustic" experience, but everything was white and clean and fresh. The bed was incredibly comfy and the linens were amazing. The owners could not have been more accommodating, and the complimentary beverages and snacks were perfect. Breakfast, though understandably limited, was fresh and tasty. The location is perfect.

I've stayed at most of the (overpriced) hotels and inns on the island and though they do all have something to offer, this was my favorite Shelter Island experience. We've already recommended it several times, and will certainly continue to do so. We hope to return for our second anniversary in 2014, and make our visits something of a tradition!

Charming and rustic, reflecting the ambiance of the island. However, the walls are very thin and we could hear the other guests throughout the night. The room could have used a good cleaning but surface areas were fine. The amenities were scarce to say the least, especially for the price of the room. The lunch bag of mini pastries were tasty but could hardly constitute a breakfast. Overall, would probably stay again but the price should reflected in the quality of services.

Room Tip: Choose a room away from the main road due to the noise from traffic.

My husband & I are always looking for that sweet little hideaway to relax in.
We found it here at La Petite Maison. My husband was born in Provence. I like to give him a touch of home now & then.
This place did the trick. A warm welcome from the owner was the perfect start. The house itself is lovely. Our room was warm & inviting. Spotless clean! Beautiful bed linens, robes & fluffy towels. Big cozy bed w/fluffy pillows. Malin&Goetz soaps & a great jacuzzi bath. The room has a fridge filled with water, juice & Ice tea. There is an ice bucket w/glasses & plates. An all night coffee & tea station. In the morning, a bag of fresh baked pastries ... delicious! The high point for my husband was playing French Bocce on the Bocce court on the grounds. There are beach chairs & umbrellas in the room. This came in handy as we were up the road from a beautiful sunset beach. Bikes are available too.
This was our first visit to La Petite Maison & Shelter Island
We will definitely be back here....for a longer stay! :-)

Room Tip: If you like to sit outside & have your coffee in the morning, ask for a room with a porch.

We just came back from our weekend at Shelter Island, and we would like to tell you about our great experience at La Petite Maison. This charming inn, has a perfect location, less than 1 mile from the North Ferry coming from Greenport, Long Island. At the inn, there are spacious rooms, with all the comforts that you may miss from home. Free entertainment such as a gigantic chess to exercise the mind, and bicycles to ride and to enjoy the beautiful scenery at the island. Above all, Franz our innkeeper was very helpful and accommodating to our needs. Definitely, La Petite Maison is in our list as the perfect place to stay.

Sincerely,

Carmen Pimentel and Carlos Vergara

La Petite Maison was a wonderful B & B for our first visit to Shelter Island. From the comfy white duvet to the Jacuzzi tub the room was cozy and comfortable. Beach chairs, beach towels, umbrella and bikes were included. The fridge had water, juice and iced tea and the 24 hour coffee was delicious. The fresh, warm croissants at 8:00am added to a perfect wake up!

Our Groupon purchase was purely for a relaxing getaway weekend. Franze was extremely accommodating for us when we needed to rearrange our dates due to last minute scheduling issues.

Hotel staff checked on us prior to arrival to confirm we had no issues or concerns regarding our arrival. Upon arrival, our deluxe room was ready and waiting. It was the most quaint room, newly updated, jetted tub, flat screen tv with cable, a fridge, iron and board, plenty of closet and drawer space and a beautiful balcony for two.

Although the Inn is located on a busy street, we did not notice much noise at all. Restaurants will require a walk as most are usually about 5 to 10 minutes away. The Inn does provide you with daily croissants, coffee, tea and hot chocolate 24 hours. In addition, your fridge is also stocked with items and a bottle of wine in your room.

They also provide you with your own beach towels, chairs, umbrella's and bikes.

It was a wonderful stay. We were even able to take the ferry over to Sag Harbor.

A very nice experience:).

I have purchased a groupon for this place and was one of the first people to call in for reservation in June, finally last weekend i called ahead to let the owner know we are arriving late, and it turned out that he has lost my reservation, all guests already arrived and he had no room for us. He suggested he had another place to put us and we ventured out. We had an awesome time regardless - however it took a phone argument with the owner to get him to do anything, once the argument was won :), it was all uphill from there, but I will never deal with this establishment again - the reservation book is just that - pen and paper and clearly inaccurate...
