Wanted to go away for long weekend, but most everything was booked on eastern Long Island, so I tried Shelter Island. Called the Pridwin, expecting the same response...no rooms available. But to my surprise, there were rooms. For the same price as a Queen room, they gave us a King room. The room was small, but that's okay. The room and bathroom were very nice, I had the sense they were newly renovated (they were, as I found out later on). The bed was INCREDIBLY comfortable, I wanted to take it home... The restaurant was closed (they told us that on the phone) and so was the pool (they didn't tell us that, but we assumed it would be closed).Don't know it I'd stay there at the height of tourist season, but off-season, it was great.

We arrived at the hotel, the receptionist didn t even say hello at our arrival. The swimming pool was closed, the restaurant as well!!!! and of course nobody told us at the time of the booking. the receptionist didn't want to book a restaurant for us...
I have never seen such a bad service. AND NO DISCOUNT was offered.
I would never recommend this hotel to anyone

“They Gave Us a Storage Room...”

They seriously gave us a shoebox for a room. Two steps from the door was the bed. The "oceanview" was blocked by a rooftop through a tiny window. My bedroom at home is bigger than this room. This room could easily have been used as a storage room rather than a hotel room. We paid over 200 a night and booked almost two months ago. We got a refund and left immediately. Do NOT book this hotel. What was supposed to be a vacation ended up being 5 days at home because of them. I cant even express my disappointment...

“Pretty dire other than the location”

The Pridwin

My family and i stayed at the Pridwin for 5 days in July. The highlights were: the location, which is lovely, (if you like very quiet) and the quality of the food served (quite high). There is also a tennis camp behind the property which was good for the kids, and nice boats/kayaks, etc, on the waterfront across the street.

The downsides: small, very variable rooms in terms of size and degree of renovation. Filthy carpets, outrageous bar ($10-15 glasses of wine--this is not East Hampton) and tennis prices ($120/hr for instruction) , quite inconsistent and poor service quality despite the huge staffing level (seemed like every European summer intern in the world works here), in fact so much so that the atmosphere in the bar at night was also ruined because it fills up with hotel staff on break. Given that we paid $350/night, this was a little heavy.

what was truly missing, in our opinion, was tough management. Normally in family-owned properties there is a either a member of the family "cracking the whip" to preserve their reputation, or some professionally-trained help doing the same. There was no evidence of either.

“Shower Shoes Required”

The Pridwin

Jul 23, 2007

My fiancee and I recently overnighted at the Pridwin for a wedding. Bottom line-- wedding was beautiful despite the hotel, but special and beautiful sunsets do not make up for bad service, outdated decor and dirt. We knew it was an inauspicious debut when we arrived at the hotel and the loitering kitched staff joked "do you need some help with those bags?" after we already passed them on our long trek from the parking lot down the driveway and into the gloomy hotel to try to locate the unmarked front desk. The hotel itself is dark, moldy and in serious need of a major facelift. Our room was small, sparingly furnished (one night-stand) and poorly appointed (sheets are old and scratchy). Additionally, the bathroom was small and unsanitary. On top of that, in order to shower and fit under the low faucet, one has to be a seasoned yoga practitioner. Both myself and fiancee wore rubber flipflops in the shower which I can safely say is probably the first time someone donned "shower shoes" in a $300 night spot. The bath towels were half the size of similar hotels' offerings and threadbare. In conclusion, I recommmend that you stay away from this place. It does not represent good value. On a positive note, the view and strategic location cannot be recreated so I am hoping that a deep-pocketed hotelier will one day come by, put the place out of its current misery and invest in a massive restoration/remodel. The tennis camp/facilty is also a nice facility with a helpful staff.
