I had a very pleasant stay at the Chequit last summer while recovering from back surgery. They sent a van to meet me at the ferry and everyone was helpful. My room was compact (read tiny!) but comfortable and had a private bathroom. The walls are a little thin in the Summer House but not unbearably so. I had an excellent meal in the restaurant one night, and since the Chequit is minutes from the Shelter Island Heights village, it is easy to walk to other restaurants in the evening or for lunch.
The Chequit owners also own the Rams Head Inn which is about a 15 minute drive away and they will willingly take guests over to use their facilities such as the beach, restaurant etc. I would definitely return to the Chequit. The only down side is that there is not really anywhere to sit comfortably outside during the day since the outdoor space is used for restaurant tables.
