“Local Produce and Baked Goods”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 15, 2012

The Carrot Barn is an institution in this part of the world. Located in Schoharie and just about five minutes from Howe Caverns, The Carrot Barn is well stocked with local produce of all types, New York State cheeses and honey, and baked goods with an emphasis on carrot cake. The place is always packed with people and the produce is fresh, fresh, fresh. The facility is spotlessly clean and the employees are polite and pleasant.

Anybody who loves to cook will enjoy this place as it offers hard to find items like Kohlrabi, exotic cauliflower colors, broccoli rabe, fingerling potatoes in multiple colors and a dozen kinds of apples. I always buy lots when I'm there.

In addition, you'll find a nice little coffee/snack bar and a bakery and there are plenty of bedding plants, pumpkins, and other treats outside. Be sure to stop when in the area.

“Great tasting produce”

Can't wait to go back and get more home grown carrots and potatoes (best I have ever eaten), and the best priced and best looking mums in the fall!

“I LOVE THE CARROT BARN!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2010

My husband's brother moved up to Schoharie a few years ago. Each time we visit, I MUST go to the Carrot Barn. They have the best cider donuts and baked goods, the most fabulous sandwiches on fresh homemade breads and homemade soups and such fun shopping for fun little candles, soaps, and cute country things to bring home from our trip. If we stay for the weekend, I usually go to the Carrot Barn a few times for sandwiches or donuts. Not to mention the great produce and groceries you can buy there. If I lived in that area, I'd go to that store on a regular basis. And, the people who own the store and the workers in the store are the nicest people ever. I've gone there many, many times and it's always a very fun experience.

“GREAT FARM FRESH VEGGIES”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2009

The Carrot Barn offers farm fresh veggies... Delicious muffins & desserts... It is a little pricey, but compared to store prices, it's not too bad, plus you are getting fresh, ripe veggies. The Carrot Barn is the only place I can find Candy onions. Candy onions are delicious, very sweet, much sweeter than Vadalia onions & you can get them in red or white varieties... They are much cheaper when you purchase them by a half bushel instead of buying by the pound (just ask for them in larger quantities) They last for many months when stored in a cool dry place & they freeze beautifully. If you are in the Schoharie area, check them out... If you like to pick your own fresh veggies, check out Barbers (in Schoharie) a bushel of tomatoes are just $14.00 (2009 pricing) when you pick your own... Truly worth the trip!!!

“Terrific store for local and New York State products”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 18, 2006

This store goes by many names - the Carrot Barn, Schoharie Valley Farms, even Westheimer's to some locals (the former owner's last name). My family has been enjoying their warm cider donuts, fresh baked muffins, cakes, pies, cookies, coffee and hot cocoa for years now - breakfast , lunch or dessert. Just in the past year they've also opened a small cafe (very limited seating) offering fresh soups, chili, light salads, and sandwiches that change weekly. All very reasonably priced and delicious (I know I've had them all - my favorite is the chili and chicken salad sandwich with cranberries). They also sell local eggs, frozen meats, milk and, of course, locally grown vegetables if you're looking to bring food home and create your own meal. They also set a variety of craft goods, from baskets to local prints, candies, honey, maple syrup and other seasonal goods. The only thing I don't like about the Carrot Barn is that is closes from December 24 and re-opens March 1. But that's all the bad points I can think of...
