We stayed at the Comfot Inn Saugerties on Tuesday, June 27. Check in was a little odd; the hotel clerk couldn't have been more than 19 years old and seemed more interested in listening to his IPod than conducting a transaction with me; I got the feeling he was annoyed by my questions (where is the ice machine? could we get blankets for the pull-out sofa? are there any restaraunts, bars, or movie theatres in the area? where are the brochures?). Once we got to the room, we were very impressed with the space. I would guess the room was 400 square feet, complete with a king-size bed, a comfortable sofa that pulled out (the sofa bed was, as expected, uncomfortable), microwave, small refridgerator, new LCD television with 20-some channels (local broadcasts were both Albany and New York City), and a small coffeemaker. The windows opened all the way, which was great for letting in the stiff upstate breeze on a warm night. The bathroom was very large, with plenty of room for more than one person to move around in. There were nothing in the hotel, except for the rooms. A local diner was 1/4 mile from the hotel (with great food), and a service station was across the street. Otherwise, there is nothing around the hotel but farms and undeveloped property. If you are staying for one night, it's a great affordable option. If you plan to stay in the area longer, I suggest you try a hotel in nearby Rhinebeck, Kingston, Hyde Park, or Staatsburg.
